This study presents the design and synthesis of multifunctional magnetic cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) composites engineered for targeted adsorption and broad-spectrum antimicrobial applications. The nanocomposites were fabricated by anchoring mixed-valence Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles on eco-friendly CNC frameworks, followed by surface functionalization with benzalkonium chloride (BC), a potent quaternary ammonium biocide. Both sulfated (S) and TEMPO-oxidized CNC (T) variants were investigated across Fe3O4:CNC mass ratios of 1:2 and 1:4. Comprehensive structural, magnetic, and morphological characterization confirmed successful surface modification, superparamagnetic responsiveness, and uniform component dispersion. Thermogravimetric analysis confirmed precise compositional tailoring, capturing up to 87 …

Character-Value Internalization Through Tembe Nggoli Motifs And Weaving Practices In The Mbojo Weaving Community Of Wawo District, Indonesia, Imamatul Islamyah, Meisar Ashari, Irsan Kadir
Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya
Traditional weaving constitutes an important part of Indonesia's cultural heritage, yet its role in character-value learning remains underexplored. This study examines how character values are interpreted, experienced, and reinforced through Tembe Nggoli motifs and weaving practices within the Mbojo weaving community of Wawo District, Indonesia. Using a qualitative mini-ethnographic design, data were collected from four participants through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and documentation and analyzed using Braun and Clarke's six-phase thematic analysis. The findings indicate that character-related values are encountered through three interrelated dimensions: visual symbolism, embodied weaving practices, and community participation. Within the observed setting, participants associated these dimensions …

From External Relational Resources To Sustainable Entrepreneurship Practices In Emerging Markets: The Ethical Role Of Dynamic Capabilities, Duysal Warsi Askun, Nihal Yazici, Erhan Alam Aydin, Maria Giuseppina Akm Bruna
Publications and Research
This paper investigates how external relational resources, namely business and political ties, drive sustainable entrepreneurship (SE) practices in Turkish SMEs operating under institutional fragility. The study applies PLS-SEM to survey data from 257 employees of sustainability-engaged firms, based on their evaluations. Results show that both business and political ties significantly strengthen dynamic capabilities, which in turn predict four dimensions of sustainable entrepreneurship: employee-friendly, social-solidarity, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly practices. Inclusive leadership, however, does not moderate these relationships, revealing a boundary condition for leadership theory in network-dependent contexts. The study contributes to SE research by showing how dynamic capabilities connect external …
Citizenship At Sea: A Comparative Perspective On Blue Justice In The Andaman Sea And The Mediterranean In The Context Of Climate Change, Emilio Cocco
Pace Environmental Law Review
Discourses of the ocean in the sociological and socio-legal world have, until recently, been approached from majoritarian, terrestrial, profane and nation-centric perspectives. These perspectives are embedded in legal and regulatory regimes to the detriment of Indigenous and marginalized maritime communities. Drawing on the blue turn in sociology and socio-legal scholarship, this Article, in comparing the experiences of the Moken people of the Andaman Sea with those of migrants, fishers, and island communities in the Mediterranean, exposes the violence of such narratives. Through a comparative analysis of maritime borders, marine protected areas, tourism, and fisheries regulation, the Article explores how governance …
Mass Resettlement Politics And The Future Of Hyper-Local Climate Migration Strategies, Sarah Rogerson
Mass Resettlement Politics And The Future Of Hyper-Local Climate Migration Strategies, Sarah Rogerson
Pace Environmental Law Review
Climate change is requiring state and local governments to engage in short- and long-term strategic thinking and municipal planning. Critically, the movement of people from communities that have become uninhabitable due to climate change to other communities in more resilient areas (sometimes called “climate havens”) is a reality that most municipalities in the United States are not currently well-equipped to address. Experts predict as many as 1.2 billion climate-related migrants worldwide by 2050, with at least 93 million Americans expected to relocate to more habitable places by 2070. To put this into perspective, 93 million people is just under the …

Climate Migration And Reparations: Reflections On The Icj Advisory Opinion On Climate Change, Carmen G. Gonzalez
Pace Environmental Law Review
Climate mobility governance is at an inflection point. Major developments, such as the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion on climate change, are opening legal pathways to climate reparations and reshaping global policy debates on climate-induced migration. Climate-vulnerable states and peoples are calling for reparations for the intertwined injustices of slavery, colonialism and climate change and for legal frameworks that recognize the right to stay and the right to migrate based on the right to self-determination. This article examines the legal and ethical basis for reparative approaches to climate-induced migration. The article discusses the link between climate change and …

Buddy, Can You Spare A Claim?: Sparing Debtors' Claims From Dismissal Under The Doctrine Of Judicial Estoppel, Post-Keathley V. Buddy Ayers Construction, Inc., Abigail Bright Willie
ConLawNOW
In Keathley v. Buddy Ayers Construction, Inc., the Supreme Court considered the (decidedly) unglamorous issue of the proper standard for determining when judicial estoppel may be applied. While the case did not attract front page news, those in the bankruptcy law world knew the stakes, as evidenced by the amicus briefs filed by retired bankruptcy judges, bankruptcy scholars, and national bankruptcy organizations. They recognized that, if a merely inadvertent omission by a debtor in required disclosure documents could result in dismissal on judicial estoppel grounds of an otherwise prosecutable claim, there would be profound implications for the estate and …
Infrastructure-Neutral Dispute Processing With Synchronized State Views, Soumendra Kumar Mishra
Infrastructure-Neutral Dispute Processing With Synchronized State Views, Soumendra Kumar Mishra
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure relates to an infrastructure-neutral dispute processing method and system that maintains a synchronized, real-time transaction state across geographically distributed and independently managed data centers. Upon receiving a dispute request, a transaction summary is obtained from the originating data center, and only the required transaction state elements are synchronously and atomically written to targeted regional nodes of an independently hosted cloud data store, outside the ETL ingestion path. Once all nodes confirm the write, a point-in-time state view is created, capturing transaction identifiers and state elements from the originating data center and serving as the sole authoritative source …

Mapping The Association Of College And Research Libraries Framework To Baylor’S Four Cs Of General Education, Ellen Hampton Filgo
Mapping The Association Of College And Research Libraries Framework To Baylor’S Four Cs Of General Education, Ellen Hampton Filgo
The Christian Librarian
As institutions increasingly seek to articulate the value of information literacy within broader educational missions, academic libraries are challenged to align instructional practice with institutional learning goals. This article explores that alignment by placing the Association of College and Research Libraries Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education in conversation with Baylor University’s general education outcomes, known as the Four Cs. Through an interpretive mapping of the Framework’s threshold concepts to the Four Cs, the study reveals how information literacy supports multiple dimensions of undergraduate learning, including communication, critical thinking, civic engagement, and Christian perspective. The analysis demonstrates that Baylor’s …

Perception Is Reality: The Obvious Interest Of State And Local Governments In Fighting Corruption Through The Enactment Of Contribution Limits, Jordan Al-Rawi
Perception Is Reality: The Obvious Interest Of State And Local Governments In Fighting Corruption Through The Enactment Of Contribution Limits, Jordan Al-Rawi
San Diego Law Review
Individual campaign contribution limits are one of the few remaining constitutional tools in a state or local government’s toolkit for fighting corruption, or its appearance, in elections. Because contribution limits marginally burden a contributor’s First Amendment freedoms, a challenged limit must survive an arduous tailoring analysis to ensure that the limit is closely drawn to the government’s purported interest in combatting actual or perceived quid pro quo corruption. However, before a challenged limit is subjected to this tailoring analysis, the government must first demonstrate that it has an individualized interest in addressing the existence of actual or perceived quid pro …
Calling Balls And Three Strikes, Tobie J. Smith
Calling Balls And Three Strikes, Tobie J. Smith
San Diego Law Review
The Supreme Court has revitalized the jury’s role in criminal sentencing over the past quarter century, reaffirming that the Sixth Amendment right to trial by jury extends to factfinding that increases the punishment range for a conviction. But one class of sentencing findings—those related to a defendant’s criminal history—has been excluded. The Court has upheld an exception to the jury right where the fact to be found is whether a defendant has a prior conviction. Relying on that prior-conviction exception, many jurisdictions have continued to allow judges to increase the possible sentence based on their own preponderance-of-the-evidence findings about disputed …
Stigma-Based Credentials: Reentry, Record-Based Exclusion, And The Rights Of Permatemps, Sarah Sallen
Stigma-Based Credentials: Reentry, Record-Based Exclusion, And The Rights Of Permatemps, Sarah Sallen
San Diego Law Review
Employers’ use of background checks to exclude long-term temporary workers (“permatemps”) with criminal records from permanent employment —despite proven performance—creates a hidden barrier to advancement in the labor market. Permatemping, where workers remain in the same role for months or years through a staffing agency, has grown alongside the rapid expansion of temporary work, which has nearly tripled since the 1990s. U.S. staffing agencies now hire nearly 13 million temporary and contract workers each year, and a significant portion of this workforce has criminal records. For many, staffing agencies are not just a last resort, but a deliberate pathway to …

Supreme Selection, Renee Knake Jefferson, Hannah Brenner Johnson
San Diego Law Review
For more than two centuries, the highest judicial body in the United States systematically excluded women. In 2026, just over five percent of all justices have been women, and only two have been women of color. No woman or minority has ever served as chief justice.
This Article is the first to delve into the extraordinary and often overlooked journeys of minority women who were shortlisted—and, in two historic instances, selected—for the United States Supreme Court. It traces a long arc of exclusion and partial progress, beginning with Sandra Day O’Connor’s groundbreaking confirmation in 1981 as the first female justice …
Penetrating The Veil: Why Congress Regulating The Sperm Donation Process Is Not Nuts!, Matthew Leung
Penetrating The Veil: Why Congress Regulating The Sperm Donation Process Is Not Nuts!, Matthew Leung
San Diego Law Review
The Commerce Clause is one of the strongest and most expansive powers granted to Congress under the U.S. Constitution. While its strength has fluctuated throughout history, its power will undoubtedly be important in tackling modern problems, including regulating the Wild West of sperm donation. The rapid expansion of the commercial sperm banking industry and the rise in the need for sperm donors have exposed significant regulatory gaps in the United States. Although these groups support family formation for individuals facing infertility, same-sex couples, and single parents, federal oversight is largely limited when screening donors. As a result, critical issues, including …

Fear, Anxiety, And Clinical Training Disruption Among Dental Students During The Covid-19pandemic: A Cross-Sectional Study With Multivariate Analysis, Suzan Mohammed Abdul Raheem, Ahmad Fliah Hassan, Abdullah J. Jasem
Muthanna Medical Journal
Background: COVID-19 pandemic posed an unparalleled challenge to dental education, impacting dental student clinical education and further exacerbated the dental student occupational stress globally. The students are at a higher risk than any other profession considering the nature of the profession and some of the aerosol generating procedures used in dentistry and the psychological and clinical training consequences have not been quantified enough, particularly in a Middle East academic setting. Objective: To find the prevalence of fear, anxiety and perceived clinical training disruption associated with COVID-19 among dental students and identification of independent predictors of fear of occupational infection …

BACKGROUND: Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) enables broad, untargeted detection of pathogens and microbial signals across complex sample types. However, the diversity of operational contexts, from regulatory enforcement to exploratory discovery, challenges the defining of analytical or interpretive standards appropriate across all applications. Variability in laboratory practices, bioinformatic methods, and reporting conventions continues to limit consistency and decision-maker confidence in mNGS results. OBJECTIVES: We introduce STRATUM (Structured Framework for Reporting, Assessment, and Translational Utility of Metagenomics), a use-case-stratified framework that aligns quality assurance, metadata reporting, and interpretive standards with the consequence and intended use of metagenomic sequencing outputs. METHODS: STRATUM is …
