Crypto Kleptocracy, W. Robert Thomas, Jeffery Y. Zhang
Crypto Kleptocracy, W. Robert Thomas, Jeffery Y. Zhang
Michigan Law Review Online
Many Americans are worrying about whether they will soon be living in a postdemocracy autocracy. But in the meantime, they may already be living in a crypto-fueled kleptocracy. Less than one year into his second presidential term, Donald Trump has reportedly taken his wealth to new heights by embracing, both as a businessman and a politician, the crypto industry. Trump’s family businesses are involved in minting Trump-themed meme coins, creating America- themed stablecoins, and mining crypto assets—so successfully that most of Trump’s wealth is likely now from crypto, not real estate. All the while, the Trump Administration is rolling back …

A device for measuring a property of a substrate comprises an enclosure, two resonators, and two probes. The substrate has a top surface, and the enclosure defines a cavity for placing the substrate. The resonators extend into the cavity of the enclosure. The probes extend into the cavity, and each of the probes comprises a loop that extends about an axis that is substantially parallel to the top surface of the substrate so that the probes are operable to excite a transverse magnetic mode signal in the cavity.

Large Language Scholarship, Alan Rozenshtein, Kevin Frazier

Generative AI isn’t just coming for the legal academy—the era of what we call “Large Language Scholarship” is already here. Law professors are using AI to write articles in weeks rather than months. Law reviews face an unprecedented deluge of AI-polished submissions. And the judges who increasingly lean on AI to help draft their own opinions will soon struggle to distinguish genuine insight from sophisticated imitation. Yet, existing scholarship offers only fragmented responses, trapped in misguided debates about plagiarism and disclosure while missing the full scope of the unfolding transformation.
This Article provides the first comprehensive analysis of how generative …
Relativistic And Recoil Corrections To Light-Fermion Vacuum Polarization For Bound Systems Of Spin-0, Spin-1=2, And Spin-1 Particles, Gregory S. Adkins, Ulrich D. Jentschura
Relativistic And Recoil Corrections To Light-Fermion Vacuum Polarization For Bound Systems Of Spin-0, Spin-1=2, And Spin-1 Particles, Gregory S. Adkins, Ulrich D. Jentschura
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
In bound systems whose constituent particles are heavier than the electron, the dominant radiative correction to energy levels is given by light-fermion (electronic) vacuum polarization. In consequence, relativistic and recoil corrections to the one-loop vacuum-polarization correction are phenomenologically relevant. Here, we generalize the treatment, previously accomplished for systems with orbiting muons, to bound systems of constituents with more general spins: spin-0, spin-1=2, and spin-1. We discuss the application of our more general expressions to various systems of interest, including spinless systems (pionium), muonic hydrogen and deuterium, and devote special attention to the excited non-S states of deuteronium, the bound system …

Extending Fischoff, we used vignettes to examine people's perceptions of a hypothetical rap fan accused of murder. Study 1 (N = 300) used a 2 (murder accusation) x 2 (inclusion of rap lyrics) x 2 (fan gender) experiment, asking participants to judge how capable of murder and sexually aggressive they found the fan. The presentation of lyrics and murder accusation were associated with the fan being more capable of murder, while rap lyrics and participants' rap attitudes were associated with the fan being more sexually aggressive. Thematic analysis revealed that, in conditions containing both the lyrics and the murder accusation, …

Structural And Intersectional Factors In Full Retirement: Insights For Black Men, Waleed Sami
Adultspan Journal
This interview centers the full retirement experience of Anthony Crawford. This perspective highlights the complex interplay between social determinants, intersectional identity, the psychology of working, and social class/social mobility, as key factors in his lived experiences. The relationship between structural factors and interpersonal factors continues to be a growth edge in counseling, as counselors frequently report lack of knowledge or comfort in their relationship with counseling. This interview seeks to fill the gap and demonstrate a concrete way to develop clinical insights. The full interview is transcribed and provided, along with practical and research implications for counselors working with populations …

Systematic Review Of Ketamine Therapy For Treatment Resistant Depression, Amal Abdulkadir
Antioch University Dissertations & Theses
a systematic literature review the results of 29 published studies from 2020-2025 that met specified inclusion criteria. The review identified costs and benefits of traditional algorithms for treating this problem, as well as the trend in research to include the use of ketamine. Studies have demonstrated a potential association between the use of ketamine therapy and significant clinical improvement in depressive symptoms. However, the current efficacy of ketamine therapy compared to treatment as usual, side effects and contraindications have not been addressed. Approximation Algorithms For Center-Based K-Clustering, Ankita Sarkar
Approximation Algorithms For Center-Based K-Clustering, Ankita Sarkar
Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations
Center-based metric k-clustering is a rich class of well-studied optimization problems. These include the classical k-center, k-median, and k-means problems. In all these problems, a client set C and a set F of candidate facilities live in a metric space. We are required to pick or "open" k facilities S ⊆ F to minimize some objective function, potentially subject to further constraints on S. Such problems are NP-hard, which has encouraged a long line of research in approximation algorithms for them.
In this thesis, I present research on center-based k-clustering in scenarios where either …
A Generalized Framework For The “Core” Thalamocortical Circuit Computation, Charles Liu
A Generalized Framework For The “Core” Thalamocortical Circuit Computation, Charles Liu
Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations
This thesis explores a biologically inspired computational framework based on a common excitatory-inhibitory circuit in the superficial layers of the cortex. By varying the strength of local feedback inhibition, this single circuit gives rise to distinct unsupervised learning behaviors: strong inhibition leads to clustering and hierarchical clustering, while weak inhibition produces principal component-like representations. From this principle, we develop three algorithms: Lateral Inhibition Clustering (LI-C), Lateral Inhibition Hierarchical Clustering (LI-HC), and Antipodal Iterative Mean Estimation (AIME).
LI-C performs clustering without requiring a predefined number of clusters, using a competitive learning rule to extract dominant patterns from data. LI-HC extends this …
The Federalism Canons As Ordinary Interpretation, Anthony J. Bellia Jr., Bradford R. Clark
The Federalism Canons As Ordinary Interpretation, Anthony J. Bellia Jr., Bradford R. Clark
GW Law Faculty Publications & Other Works
Scholars remain generally skeptical of substantive canons of statutory interpretation even as courts continue to employ such canons in important cases. Unlike semantic canons, which help judges discern the best meaning of statutory text in context, substantive canons provide tiebreakers when the text is unclear or require special clarity in order for the text to perform certain functions. Among the substantive canons, the so-called “federalism canons” have been singled out for special scrutiny. The federalism canons are a family of canons that require courts to avoid interpreting an act of Congress to divest states of certain sovereign rights or powers—including …

Governing Ai Without Agencies: Self-Regulatory Organizations And The Federal Backstop, Aram A. Gavoor
GW Law Faculty Publications & Other Works
Artificial intelligence is accelerating American innovation and strategic advantage. The governance task is to provide predictable compliance baselines that support scale and competitiveness while remaining workable under executive branch policy, statutory baselines, and the rules that now govern the administrative state. Congress remains slow and factional, and agencies face rising procedural and remedial constraints. Recent Supreme Court doctrine has reduced the administrative state’s interpretive and enforcement leverage. Regulated entities can challenge agency rules when those rules newly impose concrete harm, litigate statutory meaning without Chevron-style mandatory deference to agency statutory interpretations with limited exceptions, and invoke strengthened procedural safeguards in …

Brief For International Law Scholars As Amici Curiae In Support Of Respondents, Cisco Systems, Inc. V. Doe I, William S. Dodge
GW Law Faculty Publications & Other Works
This amicus brief was filed with the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of international law scholars in Cisco Systems, Inc. v. Doe I. The brief addresses whether claims for aiding and abetting violations of international human rights may be brought under the Alien Tort Statute. Part I argues that, under Sosa v. Alvarez-Machain (2004), whether aiding and abetting claims are actionable is determined by customary international law rather than U.S. domestic law. Part II argues that customary international law’s prohibition against aiding and abetting human rights violations meets the Sosa standard. Drawing on instruments establishing the Nuremberg tribunals, the International …

Policy Brief: The Occ Has Violated Four Federal Statutes By Allowing National Trust Banks To Engage In Crypto-Related Nonfiduciary Activities, Including The Issuance Of Stablecoins, Arthur E. Wilmarth Jr.
GW Law Faculty Publications & Other Works
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (“OCC”) has recently approved charters for nine limited-purpose national trust banks controlled by crypto firms (hereinafter “NTB charter approvals”). The OCC’s NTB charter approvals permit those national trust banks to engage in a wide range of nonfiduciary crypto-related activities. The OCC’s NTB charter approvals violate four federal statutes and must be rescinded. Under 12 U.S.C. §§ 27(a) and 92a, national trust banks are authorized to exercise only fiduciary powers and to act solely in federally-recognized fiduciary capacities. Sections 27(a) and 92a forbid the OCC from allowing national trust banks to engage in …

Brief Amicus Curiae Of Administrative And Constitutional Law Professors In Support Of Petitioners, Alan B. Morrison, Robert L. Glicksman, Richard J. Pierce Jr, Peter Strauss, Jeffrey Lubbers
GW Law Faculty Publications & Other Works
This amicus brief was filed in DOL v. Sun Valley Orchards by Professors Alan Morrison, Rob Glicksman, Richard Pierce, Peter Strauss and Jeffrey Lubbers. Amici argue that the Supreme Court should reverse the Third Circuit’s decision that DOL lacks the power to adjudicate disputes involving the safety and adequacy of the housing, food, and transportation provided by employers to non-citizen temporary agricultural workers. The Third Circuit’s holding was based on its belief that the constitution confers the power to adjudicate such disputes exclusively on Article III courts.
Amici argue that the dispute at issue falls squarely within the scope of …
Childlessness And Health In Middle Age And Older Adulthood: Evidence From Singapore, Christine Ho, Dahye Kim, Rohan Ray, Bussarawan Teerawichitchainan
Childlessness And Health In Middle Age And Older Adulthood: Evidence From Singapore, Christine Ho, Dahye Kim, Rohan Ray, Bussarawan Teerawichitchainan
Research Collection School Of Economics
Health and well-being in mature adulthood are important concerns given the prevalence of individuals aging without children. We exploit two new instruments for childlessness— infertility and the number of childless siblings—and condition our analyses on a rich set of covariates including childhood health and financial status, to investigate the causal relationship between childlessness and health in middle age and older adulthood. Using a nationwide dataset of 1,500 Singaporeans aged 50 and above, we show that OLS underestimates the negativeeffects of childlessness on health. We find that childlessness leads to higher likelihood of poorer self-reported health and mental distress. The results …

Stages Of Being Foreign As Portrayed In Daughter Of Keltoum And Lost Birds, Fran Hassencahl
Communication & Theatre Arts Faculty Publications
In this paper, I use the intercultural communication model, The Stages of Being Foreign, developed by anthropologist Oberg (1960) and modified by Gullahorn & Gullahorn (1963), Lewis & Jungman (1986), and Ward, Bochner, and Furnham (2001) to explain the experience of culture shock. This model describes the stages that individuals experience when they leave, either voluntarily or involuntarily, their home country/culture and must adapt to a new culture. These stages as described by Oberg are a preliminary stage (a spectator stage), an increasing participation stage, the pit of the culture shock stage, the adaptation stage, and for some migrants a …

A Phenomenological Analysis Of Sense Of Belonging Among Community College Educators, Muhammad Owais Aziz
EVMS School of Health Professions Theses & Dissertations
This phenomenological study explored the complex phenomenon of sense of belonging (SB) among diverse health professions educators (HPEs) and non-health professions educators (non-HPEs) at a Canadian community college. SB, as a dynamic construct shaped by an individual's perception of being valued and respected, is influenced by personal preferences and by complex interactions with the individual's surroundings. To better understand SB and foster a more inclusive environment for diverse educators, it is necessary to investigate SB among these educators. This qualitative study used eleven semi-structured interviews and seven steps of data analysis. The results of this study can inform strategies, policies, …

Global biomedical and health research is increasingly relying on genomic and computational approaches, largely driven by the increasing volumes of nucleic acid sequencing. Concurrently, epidemiological studies and clinical records are generating enormous amounts of data amenable to disease modeling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence techniques. Bioinformatics and data science expertise is therefore essential for improved population health. Accordingly, in 2012, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) in partnership with the Wellcome Trust, and with support from the African Society for Human Genetics, initiated the H3Africa (Human Heredity and Health in Africa) consortium. One of its key goals was to …

It explores how musical practices serve as a medium for expressing and negotiating Greek identity, with particular attention to how multiculturalism is embodied through music education, performance and communal exchange. Fieldwork was conducted in Perth between July and September 2025, using a methodology that included semi-structured interviews, participant observation and experiential learning through musical events. The findings highlight music’s significance in sustaining cultural heritage and shaping identity within diaspora communities. Key themes include the influence of physical and digital media on …
Waterborne, Theresa Ann Wilks
Waterborne, Theresa Ann Wilks
Theses : Honours
Waterborne incorporates four eco-Gothic fiction narratives that, through a practice-led enquiry, examine how drawing upon the abject, by employing the Gothic tropes of violence and captivity within Australian settings, may be positioned to foreground environmental impacts from anthropocentrism, particularly upon bodies of water. Utilising eco-Gothic settings in water locations exhibiting ecological damage, from land clearing and water management practices, the fictional narratives may also highlight the physical, social and emotional impacts of adverse environmental change upon ourselves.
“High Tea and Acquisitions” followed time immersed at a freshwater lake that is choked with introduced weeds and becoming shallow with sediment. It …

The results reveal significant cross-sector maturity disparities: Financial Services ranks the highest (84.4/100) with robust evaluation and review mechanisms, followed by Technology (82.0), Retail (77.4), and Real Estate (73.2), while Logistics scores the lowest …
Optical Fiber Identification Via 2-D Rayleigh Backscattering Fingerprints, Huan Wu, Fang Zheng, Youqian Zhang, Chao Lu
Optical Fiber Identification Via 2-D Rayleigh Backscattering Fingerprints, Huan Wu, Fang Zheng, Youqian Zhang, Chao Lu
Department of Construction, Environment and Engineering
We propose an image-assisted optical fiber identification method that exploits the unclonable Rayleigh backscattering signatures measured by optical frequency-domain reflectometry (OFDR). A two-dimensional binary optical fiber identifier (OFID), analogous to a digital fingerprint image, is derived from the Rayleigh backscattering spectrum (RBS) matrix, enabling identification when combined with structure similarity index measure (SSIM). Experiments show that the proposed scheme offers 109% improvement in robustness over conventional one-dimensional local-RBS matching, while reducing data storage from 0.98 MB to 39.6 kB per measurement. A systematic analysis of OFDR parameters reveals that identification accuracy is maximized at a spatial resolution of approximately 3 …

Navigating Liminality: Building Resources For And With Undocumented Students, Yaneyry Delfin Martinez
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Rooted in Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) and Liberation Sociology, this project outlines an institutional blueprint for the resources and support systems needed to address the lived realities of undocumented students at Cal Poly Humboldt (CPH). Conducted during the second Trump Administration amidst escalating hostility towards immigrants and attacks on DEI initiatives, this work documents both the structural conditions shaping undocumented students’ lives and the collective resistance that emerged in response. Furthermore, it examines how immigration policy, access to and restrictions on federal and state aid, geographic conditions, and on-campus barriers reproduce and maintain legal liminality within higher education. Grounded in …
Reclaiming Presence: An Anthropological Study Of Digital Disconnection And Meaning-Making, Leslie De Paz
Reclaiming Presence: An Anthropological Study Of Digital Disconnection And Meaning-Making, Leslie De Paz
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Human attention is increasingly at risk in an unregulated digital ecosystem where overconsumption shapes neurological function, social interaction, and the ways people make meaning of everyday life. Dominant discourse around digital overuse tends to medicalize the problem, framing it as individual addiction or clinical dysfunction. In this thesis, I argue that such framing obscures what a cultural phenomenon is fundamentally, one in which people are actively questioning their relationship with technology, building awareness, and developing practices that help them slow down and reclaim agency within algorithmically mediated environments. This study draws on 22 semi-structured interviews with Gen Z and millennial …
Don’T Give The Fae Your Name: Focus Of Attention And Victim Blaming, Entropy Cramer
Don’T Give The Fae Your Name: Focus Of Attention And Victim Blaming, Entropy Cramer
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
Victim-blaming is thought to be a result of the fundamental attributional error, where people over-emphasize internal attributions about the victim. Despite this, there is little literature on manipulating the focus of attention and the result for victim-blaming. People who are high in rape myth acceptance tend to visually focus on the victims longer (Süssenbach et al., 2015). Rempala and Bernieri (2005) found that adding irrelevant information, such as height and weight, to the trial about the victim increased victim-blaming compared to when it was absent. The current study investigated if relevant information about the victim and perpetrator changed the amount …

Human rights have never been more important in the United States as they are today. After more than 10 years of dormancy, the seminal work that guides public interest attorneys in incorporating human rights work has been finally updated. The Human Rights in the U.S. Handbook for Public Interest Attorneys is a handbook that provides practical direction to public interest attorneys, including clinical law teachers, legal aid attorneys, public defenders, and others, on how to use human rights in their everyday work. The Handbook invaluably advises attorneys on best practices for using human rights arguments before U.S. state and federal …
