Revolutionizing Coral Research: The Power Of Holo-Omics, Mohammad M. Binsarhan
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Marine Science
This mini-review highlights the emerging field of holo-omics and its application in unraveling the complex dynamics of the coral holobiont. Corals exist as meta-organisms, closely interacting with a diverse microbiota including bacteria, archaea, microeukaryotes, viruses, and algal symbionts. Understanding these intricate relationships is critical for assessing coral health, stress responses, and resilience to environmental change. We explore the application of meta-omics approaches such as metabarcoding, metagenomics, meta-transcriptomics, metabolomics, and proteomics in profiling coral-associated microbial communities and their functions. The review sheds light on the methodological advantages and limitations of each approach, as well as some of the technical challenges involved …

Microalgae As Sustainable Biofactories For Bioplastic Production: Challenges And Future Perspectives: A Review, Zahraa Hussein Obaid, Noor S. Naji, Jasim M. Salman, Layla Mustafa A.A. Alkatrani
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Marine Science
The widespread use of traditional plastics, combined with their slow breakdown, has exacerbated environmental and health problems. Therefore, it has become imperative to find alternatives. Due to their simplicity of cultivation, quick growth, tolerance to challenging growing conditions, and low cost, microalgae are being used more frequently as a bio-source for bioplastics lately. Additionally, a variety of biopolymers, including polyhydroxybutyrate, polylactic acid (PLA), starch, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), protein, and cellulose, could be produced by microalgae. These polymers show promising qualities including biodegradability, biocompatibility, and non-toxicity under various cultivation conditions. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the potential of microalgae …

Fines Migration Versus Mineral Dissolution In Co₂ Injectivity Impairment: A Critical Review And Conceptual Framework For Clay-Rich Sandstone Reservoirs, Umarov Shahzodbek Bakhromjon Ugl
Platform: A Journal of Engineering (PAJE)
Sustained injectivity is a controlling operational requirement for geological CO2 storage in deep saline aquifers because near-wellbore permeability loss can restrict injection rates, accelerate pressure build-up and reduce storage efficiency. In sandstone reservoirs containing reactive or mobile clay minerals, CO2-saturated brine may induce coupled geochemical and colloidal processes that cannot be interpreted through bulk porosity change alone. This review critically synthesises evidence on CO2-brine-rock interaction, clay mineral response, fines detachment, pore-throat restriction and injectivity impairment in sandstone systems. The reviewed literature indicates that mineral dissolution, secondary precipitation, salt precipitation, wettability alteration and fines migration can operate simultaneously, but their effects …

Every year, over 700,000 people, particularly children under five, die from vector-borne diseases worldwide. Effectively controlling endemics and preventing new outbreaks requires an integrated approach that can lead to the elimination of both vectors and diseases. In the last two decades, integrating medical interventions and vector control has significantly reduced the incidence of Gambian Human African Trypanosomiasis (g-HAT), with the World Health Organization validating eight countries as having eliminated the disease as a public health problem. However, elimination of the tsetse vector has not been confirmed, leaving the possibility of re-emergence. We developed a six-step modeling framework to assess vector …

This study develops a fractional-order tumor-immune interaction model incorporating Caputo memory effects, delayed immune activation, and CTLA-4 checkpoint regulation. The model describes the coupled dynamics of tumor cells, CD4^+ T cells, IFN-γ, and CTLA-4, and extends classical integer-order tumor-immune models by accounting for hereditary immune responses and biologically motivated latency effects. Theoretical properties, including positivity, boundedness, equilibrium structure, and fractional-order stability, are examined to establish the biological and mathematical consistency of the model. The delayed fractional system is then investigated computationally by comparing several numerical methods, including finite difference discretization, Daubechies wavelet collocation, Euler wavelet collocation, and a predictor-corrector scheme. …

Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is an aggressive hematologic malignancy marked by uncontrolled expansion of immature myeloid cells and disruption of normal hematopoiesis. Beyond genetic abnormalities, accumulating evidence demonstrates that leukemic progression is strongly shaped by intercellular communication within the bone marrow niche. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), including exosomes and microvesicles, have emerged as key mediators of this communication, transporting bioactive molecules that influence leukemic cell behavior, immune responses, and treatment sensitivity. This systematic review synthesizes current findings on EVs in adult AML, focusing on their biogenesis, molecular cargo, roles in disease pathogenesis, diagnostic and prognostic relevance, and therapeutic potential. Following PRISMA …

Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) is a common condition that impairs women's quality of life and is frequently associated with obesity. Beyond hormonal and vascular mechanisms, chronic low-grade inflammation, particularly elevated interleukin-6 (IL-6), has been proposed as a biological mediator of this association. This systematic review, registered in PROSPERO (CRD420251046082), aimed to evaluate the role of IL-6 in mediating the association between obesity and FSD. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science was conducted for studies published between 2018 and 2025, focusing on obese women, quantitative IL-6 measurements, and validated assessments of sexual function such as the …
