Reinterpreting The Kutika Manuscript: A Buginese Ethnoecological Perspective, Rahmatia Ayu Widyaningrum, Priscila Fitriasih Limbong, Titik Pudjiastuti, Mamlahatun -. Buduroh -
International Review of Humanities Studies
This article offers a reinterpretation of the Kutika manuscript from a Buginese ethnoecological perspective. Departing from a philological study of the Lontara’ Kutika text in the National Library of Indonesia (PNRI) collection (code VT 129), this research examines how Buginese communities articulate their interaction with nature through this manuscript. The Kutika text has generally been understood merely as a book of time calculation, yet its background is imbued with philosophical values that show how the Buginese talk to nature, read signs, and treat nature as an equal element rather than a mere object. Using the framework of human ecology, this …

The Use Of The Term Ukhti On Social Media Platform X In Indonesia, Indah Putri Sobada, Wiwin Triwinarti
International Review of Humanities Studies
This study traces the semantic transformation of the lexicon ukhti within Indonesia’s digital landscape. The term ukhti ( أُ خْ تِي ), derived from Arabic and meaning “my sister,” was initially used as a form of biological kinship address, later evolving into a fictional kinship address. However, in its current usage, the term increasingly conveys exclusivity and produces stereotypical perceptions of Muslim women. This study focuses on the use of ukhti on Indonesia's Social Media Platform X, examining how its meaning has become more specific and how this shift affects the representation of diverse Muslim female identities. Therefore, this study …

Background
Intracranial arteriosclerosis (large‐ and small‐vessel disease) is considered a risk factor for major neurological disorders, such as stroke, cognitive impairment, and dementia. While most studies investigating intracranial arteriosclerosis include individuals from industrialized populations, the prevalence and clinical meaning of intracranial vascular calcifications in populations with a subsistence lifestyle is unknown. Methods
In this population‐based study evaluating data collected between 2017 and 2019 from Tsimane and Moseten people, 2 indigenous populations of forager‐horticulturalists living in the Bolivian Amazon, we used computed tomography to determine the prevalence of vascular calcifications in the intracranial internal carotid arteries, vertebral arteries, and lenticulostriate arteries …Comparison Of Three Temperate Rainforest Climate Envelopes For Britain And Ireland: Where Could Our Rainforest Be?, Katerina Chernyuk, Thomas R. Restoration of natural habitats is now recognised as a priority in both political and scientific circles. Temperate rainforests are internationally rare and endangered habitats, which are delineated from other woody biomes by high year-round rainfall and moderate temperatures, and are restricted to mid-latitude zones of the globe. With Britain and Ireland harbouring up to 40% of the potential range of European rainforest, this is a crucial region for their protection and restoration. Recent investment in tree planting and restoration initiatives in Ireland and Britain highlight the need for informed planning of native habitat and woodland creation to ensure long-term stability …

The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is a ligand-dependent transcription factor activated by environmental toxicants like halogenated and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which then binds to DNA and regulates gene expression. AHR is implicated in numerous physiological processes, including liver and immune function, cell cycle control, oncogenesis, and metabolism. Traditionally, AHR binds a consensus DNA sequence (GCGTG), the xenobiotic response element (XRE), recruits coregulators, and modulates gene expression. Yet, recent evidence suggests AHR can also regulate gene expression via a non-consensus sequence (GGGA), termed the non-consensus XRE (NC-XRE). The prevalence and functional significance of NC-XRE motifs in the genome have remained unclear. …

Background: Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is an inherited metabolic disorder caused by variants in CYP27A1 leading to loss of sterol-27-hydroxylase activity. Sterol-27-hydroxylase generates two classes of bioactive signaling molecules: bile acids and oxysterols. The broader metabolic consequences resulting from perturbations in bile acid and oxysterol signaling and their reversibility with FDA-approved treatment chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA), are not fully described.
Methods: To establish a comprehensive map of metabolic consequences of CTX, we performed large-scale, untargeted plasma metabolomics in a single subject with CTX, both before and after 6 months of CDCA therapy, and compared results with a reference cohort of over 1100 …

Sangkan Paraning Dumadi Sebagai Filosofi Hidup Dalam Puisi-Puisi Sapardi Djoko Damono, Heri Isnaini
Journal of Language, Literature, and Arts
Previous studies on the poetry of Sapardi Djoko Damono have predominantly situated his works within the framework of lyricism, linguistic simplicity, and humanistic reflection, while the dimension of local philosophy as a foundation of existential consciousness has received limited scholarly attention. This article aims to reveal the representation of the concept of sangkan paraning dumadi as a philosophy of life in Sapardi Djoko Damono’s poetry. The concept is understood as an ontological awareness of human existence concerning its origin and ultimate purpose in relation to God. This study employs a philosophical approach using qualitative descriptive analysis of selected poems that …

Marine megafauna species are affected by a wide range of anthropogenic threats. To evaluate the risk of such threats, species’ vulnerability to each threat must first be determined. We build on the existing threats classification scheme and ranking system of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species by assessing the vulnerability of 256 marine megafauna species to 23 at-sea threats. The threats we considered included individual fishing gear types, climate-change-related subthreats not previously assessed, and threats associated with coastal impacts and maritime disturbances. Our ratings resulted in 70 species having high vulnerability (v > 0.778 …

Rapid Diagnosis Of Staphylococcus Aureus Using The Lamp Method, Hadeel Abdul-Amir, Thair Al-Kelabi
AUIQ Conference Proceedings
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a genetically distinct strain of S. aureus, poses a significant health problem in humans and animals. MRSA is responsible for various difficult-to-treat illnesses in humans and animals. The loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) experiment was performed using four unique primers developed for six distinct mecA and femA gene sequences. The LAMP test was completed in 45 minutes at 62.5°C and visualized by gel electrophoresis. Moreover, the LAMP test has better sensitivity than conventional PCR, detecting genomic DNA at 64.8 pg/μL, which is hundreds of times more sensitive than conventional PCR. The LAMP test is an …

Comparison Of The Behavior Of Semiconductor Lasers Under The Influence Of Changing Bias Current With Optoelectronic Feedback, Tareq A. Al Attabi, Salam Jasim Majeed, Muwaffaq Abdullah
AUIQ Conference Proceedings
Direct pump modulation is one feature of semiconductor lasers that sets them apart from other types of lasers. Another degree of flexibility is the injection current disruption. Consequently, instabilities are caused by the disruption of the injection current in semiconductor lasers, and the modulation of the injection current does in fact show instabilities and chaotic behaviors. This research investigates a comparative study between conventional and nanoscale semiconductor lasers. The occurrence of different laser outputs from both types of semiconductor lasers, including the typical output from these devices as well as periodic, multi-periodic, aperiodic, and chaotic ones that arise from injection …

Defective Viral Genomes: Emerging Therapeutic Tools For Animal Viral Infections, Saad Hashem Ghmeiss, Ali Abdul-Jassim Alwan
AUIQ Conference Proceedings
Defective Viral Genomes (DVGs), which are viral genomes that are defective in some way, are naturally occurring byproducts of viral replication in numerous RNA viruses, notably Orthomyxoviridae (Influenza virus), Filoviridae (Ebola and dengue), and Paramyxoviridae (Respiratory Syncytial). They have three well-defined functions: interference with regular virus replication, immunostimulation, and virus persistence. DVGs are defective viral genomes that can hijack the replication cycle of wild-type viruses, leading to partial or complete suppression of viral populations. A variety of new DVGs are created through infection of the host by one of these viruses. The researchers devised a strategy for identifying those most …

Critical Design And The Robotic Imaginary: Design Criticism And Critical Robots, Jörgen Behrendtz
The Journal of Sociotechnical Critique
This paper brings critical design and design criticism to critical robot studies. Critical design can be described as an umbrella term for approaches making use of speculative designs to highlight and challenge narrow assumptions, preconceptions or even taken-for-granted truths about the role products play (in a wide sense) in everyday life. Design criticism refers to a reasoned procedure that investigates emancipatory and/or limiting potentials of designs, theorizes the roles of affordances, materials and embodied perception as epistemological resources in media interaction, and clarifies connections between specific design choices and their associated experiential qualities, seductive powers, ideological underpinnings, material operations, and …
