Oscillation Conditions For Solutions Of First Order Piecewise Constant Neutral Differential Equations, Sora Ali Majeed, Hussain Ali Mohamad
Baghdad Science Journal
The research seeks to examine a new form of equations as well as possible criteria for oscillation and non-oscillation for all solutions of first-order neutral differential equations with the piecewise constant, whether these oscillatory solutions are convergent or non-convergent, by finding sufficient conditions that guarantee the oscillation of all solutions of these equations. According to NDEPC, these equations contain three delays and three coefficients, which requires that part of the coefficients in this equation be piecewise continuous. In witch A function that assumes constant values over predetermined intervals is known as a piecewise constant argument (PCA). The biggest integer function …

Baghdad Science Journal
Colibactin is a genotoxin produced by Enterobacteriaceae via a polyketide synthase (pks) island cluster. There is less knowledge regarding the distribution of colibactin genes in E. coli isolates in Iraq and its correlation with biofilm and antibiotic susceptibility. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the frequency of some colibactin genes (CIbA and CIbQ) in uropathogenic E. coli in Iraq and evaluate the correlation with biofilm and antimicrobial resistance. Between October 2023 and January 2024, 70 E. coli isolates were isolated from 120 females diagnosed with UTIs. Isolates were identified first by biochemical methods and confirmed molecularly by amplification …

Numerous studies have reported elevated quantities of cadmium and nickel in soil, resulting in reduced plant growth, particularly in biomass, chlorophyll content, and photosynthetic traits due to their hazardous nature. Therefore, it is crucial to enhance plant resistance to heavy metal stress and reduce the toxicity of cadmium and nickel. In this study, several bacterial strains were isolated from heavy metal-contaminated soil to investigate their potential role in facilitating detrimental consequences of heavy metal stress. The capacity of the isolates to increase plant production under heavy metal stress and minimal inhibitory concentration was evaluated after the isolates were identified at …

Interfacial Engineering Of Electrodes And Solid-State Electrolytes For High-Performance Lithium-Ion And Sodium-Ion Batteries, Ahmad Helaley
Interfacial Engineering Of Electrodes And Solid-State Electrolytes For High-Performance Lithium-Ion And Sodium-Ion Batteries, Ahmad Helaley
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
The rapid expansion of electrified transportation and renewable energy integration demands advanced lithium-ion (Li-ion) and sodium-ion (Na-ion) batteries with enhanced safety, long-term reliability, and high energy efficiency. However, conventional systems employing liquid electrolytes continue to exhibit persistent failure modes, including thermal instability, parasitic interfacial reactions, transition-metal dissolution, and electrode degradation under high-voltage or fast-charging conditions. These limitations become even more critical in solid-state configurations, where insufficient ion mobility and interfacial incompatibility can severely restrict electrochemical performance. The first part of this dissertation develops an atomic-layer-scale interfacial stabilization strategy using atomic layer deposition (ALD) coatings. ZnO-modified graphite anodes in Li-ion cells …

An International Human Rights-Based Approach To Reducing Maternal Mortality And Enhancing Safe Motherhood In Africa, John Mukum Mbaku
San Diego International Law Journal
In 2015, the U.N. General Assembly (UNGA) noted that almost fifteen years after the global community had agreed to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which provided an important framework for economic and human development, significant progress has been made in several areas. However, the UNGA explained that many developing countries have not been able to achieve the MDGs, especially those goals related to maternal and reproductive health. Although the global maternal mortality rate has declined significantly, only 50% of pregnant women in developing countries receive the recommended minimum of four antenatal care visits. Additionally, complications suffered during pregnancy and childbirth …

Seamless Security: Reforming Export Controls For A Stronger Allied Defense Industrial Base, Justin Belcher
San Diego International Law Journal
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and China’s accelerating military modernization underscore the need for the United States and its allies to reinforce their defense industrial bases to deter and prevail in future conflicts. This paper examines the historical and strategic foundations driving the need for export control reform, identifies key U.S. export control laws governing defense coproduction and co-development, and analyzes how current regulations constrain allied industrial integration. It concludes by proposing solutions to streamline export control regulations to improve the strength and resilience of the modern defense industrial base.

Exonuclease/endonuclease/phosphatase (EEP)-fold hydrolases are canonically monomeric phosphodiesterases exemplified by APE1, DNase I, and TDP2 nucleases. While EEP family domain containing protein 1 (EEPD1) acts in DNA stress responses, its proposed nuclease activities are enigmatic. Here, we integrate hybrid structural methods, evolution, biochemistry, cancer genomics, plus molecular and cell biology to define EEPD1 structure, assembly, and function at stalled DNA replication forks. Results imply EEPD1 surprisingly requires both unique EEP domain dimer and distinctive tandem Helix-hairpin-Helix [(HhH)2] domains to clamp double-stranded (ds) DNA at reversed DNA replication forks for fork protection. Small-angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS), crystal, and cryo-EM structures unveil an …

Accurate monitoring of Chlorophyll-a (Chla) is critical for assessing aquatic ecosystem health, yet ecological complexity often leads to ambiguous spectral signatures in satellite data. Traditional deterministic models assume a one-to-one mapping between spectra and pigments, often failing to capture these high-dimensional analytical challenges. In this study, we propose a novel deep learning architecture, the Channel Attention-Mixture Density Network (CA-MDN), to retrieve Chla from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) hyperspectral mission. The CA-MDN integrates an attention mechanism to dynamically select ecologically relevant spectral bands and employs a probabilistic output layer to quantify …

DLSU Senior High School Research Congress Conference Proceedings
Once declared biologically dead, the Pasig River now shows signs of aquatic life but remains heavily polluted with heavy metals like lead (Pb), which accumulate in fish and pose health risks. Despite this, many communities still rely on the river for food, particularly tilapia. This study addresses public health concerns by evaluating whether common cooking methods—frying, grilling, and steaming can reduce Pb levels in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from the Pasig River to safe levels for consumption. A total of 107 tilapia samples were collected from Barangay Hulo, Mandaluyong City. The fish were cleaned, grouped, and cooked for 25 minutes using …

Human Bone Marrow-Mesenchymal Stem Cells Differentiation Into Brain-Like Endothelial Cells, Yomna Soliman, Güli̇n Baran, Nur Mustafaoğlu
Turkish Journal of Biology
Background/aim: Brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs), which constitute the blood–brain barrier (BBB), are essential for maintaining central nervous system homeostasis. Like BMECs, multipotent mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) originate from the mesodermal lineage. Thus, MSCs may serve as a direct and efficient cellular source for BMEC-like differentiation. Notably, differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) into BMECs typically involves a 2-step protocol: inducing mesodermal commitment followed by endothelial specification. In contrast, direct differentiation from MSCs could bypass the initial mesodermal induction step, offering a streamlined alternative. This study tested a novel strategy for differentiating MSCs into brain-like endothelial cells (BLECs), …

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the most lethal form of pancreatic cancer, with poor prognosis driven by late diagnosis, therapeutic resistance, and an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Interactions between tumor cells and immune cells promote immune evasion and tumor progression, limiting the efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade and other immunotherapies. Given the high expression of trophoblast cell surface antigen 2 (TROP2) in PDAC, we developed a TROP2-targeted Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) agonist (E104) designed for selective accumulation within the tumor microenvironment to activate antitumor immunity. Although antibody bioactivity is traditionally linked to Fcγ receptor (FcγR) engagement and recruitment of effector cells, …

BACKGROUND. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic provided a rare opportunity to study how human immune responses develop to a novel viral antigen delivered through different vaccine platforms. However, to date, no study has directly compared immune responses to all 3 FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccines at single-cell multiomic resolution.
METHODS. We longitudinally profiled SARS-CoV-2–naive adults (n = 31) vaccinated with BNT162b2, mRNA-1273, or Ad26.COV2.S, integrating plasma cytokines, antibody titers, and single-cell multiomic data (DOGMA-Seq).
RESULTS. We discovered a distinct, transient IFN program termed ISG-dim, which emerged specifically 1–2 days after the first mRNA dose in approximately 10% of myeloid cells. This state was …

Turkish Journal of Biology
Background/aim: Pyrazole derivatives are of growing interest due to their diverse pharmacological activities. However, their biological activity is often highly sensitive to subtle structural modifications. Existing quantitative structure–activity relationships (QSAR) approaches frequently fail to capture the conformational flexibility and nonlinear structure–activity relationships (SAR) of such heterocyclic scaffolds, creating a gap in the accurate prediction of their biological profiles. Therefore, there is a strong need for more robust and predictive computational frameworks. This study addresses this gap by integrating four-dimensional (4D)-QSAR descriptors with hybrid machine learning (ML) techniques to improve predictive accuracy and provide a more reliable tool for structure-based drug …
