Periodontitis is a common type of periodontal disease caused by expansion of the early stages of gingival
inflammation. Expansion of inflammation to the tissue structures supporting the teeth can be modified by the
pathogenic ability of plaque or host resistance factors. A total of 200 different bacteria have been identified on the
plaque. Resistance to antimicrobials can be natural because the microbes develop mechanisms to defend
themselves. Ciprofloxacin is a synthetic drug of the second generation quinolones derivatives. Mechanism of its
action is to inhibit the activity of bacterial DNA gyrase, which is bactericidal with a broad spectrum against Grampositive …

vulnerable areas of the oral cavity occupied by microorganisms, in which colonized bacteria may cause disease.
Mechanical tongue cleansing using tongue scraper can reduce anaerobic bacteria on dorsal of the tongue. The
objective of this study was to observe the difference of anaerobic bacteria amount on dorsal of the tongue before and
after mechanical tongue cleansing using tongue scraper. This was laboratory experimental study with sample

This paper reviewed of bruxism phenomenon that refers to the grinding or clenching of the teeth during awake or
night sleep. The prevalence of bruxism decreases with age from 14-18% in childhood, 8% of adult population and
3% in the elderly. According to the existing literature, two groups of proposed etiological factors can be
distinguished: peripheral (morphological) and central (pathophysiological and psychological). At present, the
bruxism is more often thought to be regulated centrally, not peripherally. Signs and symptoms of bruxism such as
tooth wear/dental attrition, abfractions, orofacial pain, change of periodontal ligament, mobility, tooth sensitivity,
fractured teeth and fillings, …

Early childhood caries (ECC), also known as milk bottle caries is a syndrome of severe tooth decay, occurs in
infants and children, is an infectious disease that develops rapidly and lead to health problems in children. This
syndrome can be caused by inappropriate use of bottles. Most cases of untreated ECC to children aged 20 months.
At this stage many children need serious treatment, because this will result in trauma to both the children and
parents. The most common treatment ECC and other dental diseases have been included in each treatment of
disease. Efforts to educate families about dental hygiene …

Dental bleaching is a process making teeth look whiter. Bleaching may be performed in two methods; by using
bleaching products or non-bleaching products. Bleaching products contain peroxide assisting to remove intrinsic
and extrinsic stain, resulting in the changing of original color of teeth. Non-bleaching products contain materials
that may work to remove extrinsic stain only, through both physical and chemical actions. The use of bleaching
products is not always safe, therefore, they should be assumed that their benefits are over their recognized
biological risk. The choice of bleaching method for children depends on type and depth of the stain, and …

gingival preparation are the common cause of failure when impression was made. Good impression is one of the
supporting factors to produce a fixed protheses which can well adapted to the tooth tissue that does not cause leaks

Berbagai Jenis Splint Untuk Mengurangi Kegoyangan Gigi Sebagai Perawatan Penunjang Pasien Penyakit Periodontal Variety Of Splint To Minimize Tooth Mobility As Supporting Treatment On Periodontal Disease Patient, Arni Irawaty Djais

Tooth mobility is often experienced by patients, especially patients with periodontal disease. Periodontal disease
causes the loss of tooth support so the tooth becomes mobile. The signs of periodontal disease or periodontitis
include occasional bleeding gums, bluish red gums, shiny, and tooth mobility. Splint is used to unite one or more
teeth to form a single entity so that it can reduce tooth mobility. There are some splints used as supporting therapy
of periodontal disease patients to stabilize the tooth before further actions are carried out.

is divided into capillary, cavernous, and mixed hemangioma. Surgery is indicated in
cases that cause complications. A case of hemangioma was reported in the lower lip

Orthodontic tooth movement is a complex process, in which cellular and chemical
changes occur. When a force is applied onto a tooth, it causes tissue injury,
compression of periodontal ligament and bone deformation. These procedures lead to
followed by certain biochemical reactions at cellular level which results in bone
remodeling. Thus a process of signal transduction occurs. In this process, some
messengers are released, including prostaglandin. Prostaglandin is an arachidonic
acid metabolite, released when cell membrane is deformed. Prostaglandin,
particularly PGE
, play a role in bone metabolism and orthodontic tooth movement.
Prostaglandin will stimulate the release of second messengers, …

Orthodontic treatment usually involves tooth movement. The orthodontic force as an
extrinsic mechanical stimulus, evokes a biologic cellular response in the periodontal
supporting ligament. At early stage, it causes inflammation of periodontal tissue
which is followed by the release of cytokines, T cell, B cell, and then MMP enzyme.
MMP-8 (collagenase 2) is a member of matrixin subfamily plays an important role in
periodontal ligament remodeling. It has capability to maintain the cellular structure,
integrity, activity, and function of extracellular matrix of periodontal tissue. The main
component of extracellular matrix is tissue protein, i.e. collagen, fibronectin, and
