Anticancer Effects Of A Captopril Montmorillonite Formulation In Oral Cancer Cells Through Apoptosis And Redox Modulation, Dalia Ghalwash, Nada Saleh, Hadeel Mousa, Shereen Raafat
Dentistry
Abstract Background Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains challenging due to the limited efficacy and toxicity of current therapies. This study investigates the anticancer potential of Captopril–Montmorillonite (CP–MMT) (nanoclay-based delivery system), a drug-repurposing approach in which Captopril is incorporated within MMT nanoclay layered silicate carrier. To our knowledge, this formulation has not been previously investigated in OSCC cell lines, demonstrating enhanced anticancer efficacy. The aim of the work was to compare the anticancer effects of CP–MMT formulation with free Captopril in OSCC cell lines, focusing on cytotoxicity, apoptosis, cell-cycle arrest, oxidative stress, and key molecular markers. Methods CP–MMT nanoclay-based formulation …

Clinical Feasibility Of An Artificial Intelligence- Assisted Digital Workflow For Full-Arch Implant Rehabilitation: A Multicenter Case Series, Dalia Ghalwash, Marco Tallarico, Mohamed El Ashry, Carlotta Cacciò, Mohamad Qaddomi
Dentistry
Fully digital workflows are increasingly used in implant prosthodontics; however, completely edentulous full-arch rehabilitations remain challenging because implant position transfer and passive framework fit are susceptible to cumulative scanning and registration errors. Clinical evidence on artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted completearch implant impression workflows remains limited. This multicenter case series aimed to describe the clinical feasibility of an AI-assisted digital workflow (SmartX) combined with extended scan bodies for all-on-X full-arch implant-supported rehabilitations. Ten completely edentulous patients rehabilitated with all-on-X implant-supported fullarch prostheses were included. Digital impressions were obtained using SmartFlag scan bodies and an AI-assisted SmartX workflow with an intraoral scanner. The …

Chia Seed Extract As A Potential Adjunct In The Management Of Oral Candidiasis: An In Vitro Study, Dalia Ghalwash, Rawda Sayed, Ahmed Ammar, Eman Khalil
Dentistry
ABSTRACT Background Oral candidiasis remains a common opportunistic fungal infection, with increasing interest in natural antifungal alternatives. This study aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of Salvia hispanica (chia) seed extract against oral Candida albicans, compare its efficacy with nystatin, assess their combined effect, and investigate cytotoxicity on WI-38 human fibroblast cells. Methods Antifungal activity was evaluated using broth microdilution and agar well diffusion assays, with nystatin oral suspension used as a positive control. Cytotoxicity of chia seed extract was assessed on WI-38 human fibroblast cells using the MTT assay. Results Chia seed extract demonstrated notable antifungal activity, with a …

Dentistry
Abstract
Background
Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a prevalent clinical condition characterized by pain arising from exposed dentin in response to external stimuli. Despite its clinical relevance, epidemiological data from Egypt and the Middle East remain limited. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, symptom characteristics, and oral hygiene-related correlates of self-reported dentin hypersensitivity among Egyptians adults.
Methods
A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted among 370 Egyptian adults recruited from multiple governorates between January and August 2025. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire that underwent expert review, pilot testing, and reliability assessment. Information regarding self-reported dentin hypersensitivity, triggering stimuli, oral …

Prevalence Of Oral Mucosal Lesions Among Smokers Based On Gender: A Bicentric Cross-Sectional Study In Egypt, Dalia Ghalwash, Fatheya Zahran
Dentistry
Abstract
Background
Smoking is a major risk factor for developing various types of oral mucosal lesions (OMLs), including benign and potentially malignant lesions. However, scarce data is available concerning gender differences regarding the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions in smokers worldwide. Accordingly, this study assesses the prevalence and types of OMLs among male smokers compared to female smokers in an Egyptian population.
Methods
This hospital-based cross-sectional study included 300 male and 300 female smokers. All participants underwent a thorough case history review and a comprehensive clinical examination.
Results
The overall prevalence of oral lesions was significantly higher in males (75%) …
Dentists’ Acceptance Of Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Decision Support For Oral Potentially Malignant Disorder Detection: A Structural Equation Modeling Study, Dalia Ghalwash
Dentistry
Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) may support early detection and clinical decision-making of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs), but clinical implementation depends on dentists’ acceptance of AI-assisted clinical decision support. This study aimed to identify structural associations of AI acceptance among dentists using an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 500 dentists. Construct validity and reliability were assessed using confirmatory factor analysis. Hypothesized associations were evaluated using structural equation modeling with bootstrap mediation analysis. The extended TAM showed generally satisfactory measurement properties and good overall model fit. Attitude toward AI showed the strongest association with behavioral …

Abstract
Background
Cisplatin (CIS) remains the gold standard chemotherapeutic agent for the management of oral cancer. However, its clinical efficacy is frequently limited by chemoresistance and dose-dependent toxicities. Ivermectin (IVM), a well-established antiparasitic agent with emerging anticancer properties, has been proposed as a potential adjuvant capable of enhancing the antitumor efficacy of CIS.
Methods
In vitro experiments were conducted on HN9 oral squamous cell carcinoma cells, while OEC normal epithelial cells served as control. The experimental evaluation comprised the MTT assay for cell viability, Annexin V/propidium iodide (PI) staining for apoptosis detection, cell cycle distribution analysis, quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR) …
