Evaluating Data-Mining Strategies For Label-Free Raman Microspectroscopic Analysis Of Cellular Processes In Vitro: Dynamic Dimensionality Reduction, Zohreh Mirveis, Nitin Patil, Hugh J. Byrne

Research Outputs: 2025-Present

Understanding dynamic intracellular metabolism is essential for elucidating cellular function and disease mechanisms. However, analysing time-resolved spectral data is challenging due to overlapping signals, high dimensionality, and biological variability. This study evaluates the applicability of Multivariate Curve Resolution-Alternating Least Squares (MCR-ALS) for resolving complex cellular spectral data and introduces a framework that integrates Principal Component Analysis (PCA) of sequential time points as a preprocessing step. PCA was used to extract dominant spectral variance associated with biological kinetics (PC1), and MCR-ALS was subsequently applied to the sequential PC1 loadings to enhance the recovery of kinetic trends. To validate the approach, simulated …

The Porte Saint-Denis Reconsidered In The Aftermath Of The Fronde: Urban Development In The Reign Of Louis Xiv, Vincent De Paul, And Saint-Lazare, Simone Zurawski Ph.D.

Vincentian Studies

This article takes a fresh look at the revitalization of Paris by King Louis XIV (1638–1715) following his victory in the civil war known as the Fronde by focusing on the Porte Saint-Denis. This was the triumphal arch built in 1672 by François Blondel, the founding Director of the Royal Academy of Architecture (Académie royale d’architecture). Blondel’s monument has long been considered the gold standard of French Baroque Classicism; however, the critical studies of architectural historians have stopped at the foot of rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis. By contrast, Zurawski scrutinizes the site. Consisting of this ancient thoroughfare to the royal …

Vincentians Versus Jansenists: Violence During A Mission, John E. Rybolt C.M. Oct 2026

Vincentians Versus Jansenists: Violence During A Mission, John E. Rybolt C.M.

Vincentian Studies

This study presents and translates the text of an anonymous Jansenist pamphlet of 1739 which narrates a series of violent events that took place during a mission that French Vincentians preached in the parish of Le Plessis-Rozainvilliers. The pastor and the Vincentian mission team both fueled the outbreak of violence. The incidents described offer harrowing insight into attitudes and strongly held beliefs of the era. The context for this was the period of great conflict within France spurred by the bull of Clement XI, Unigenitus [Dei filius], issued on 8 September 1713 to condemn a Jansenist theologian. Rybolt provides an …

Motto And Seal: The Company Of The Daughters Of Charity, Betty Ann Mcneil D.C.

Vincentian Studies

Sister Betty Ann McNeil discusses the motto and seal of the Company of the Daughters of Charity from their inception in seventeenth-century France to its current usage. Saint Louise de Marillac transformed her devotion to Jesus crucified into a spirituality of service, as her chosen seal and motto signify. For the animating principle of her personal life and charitable service, the foundress, inspired by the apostle Paul, chose “The Charity of Jesus Crucified Urges Us” (Cf. 2 Corinthians 5:14). The motto and seal, transmitted to generations of Daughters of Charity since 1633, appear in modern documents of The Company as …

Stem Cell-Based Therapies In Periodontology And Implant Dentistry: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Abdullah Saeed, Marycris Padrigo

International Arab Journal of Dentistry

Introduction: Periodontal disease and peri-implantitis remain the leading causes of tooth and implant loss, and conventional regenerative procedures consistently fall short of full structural restoration. Stem cell therapies have emerged as a promising alternative, operating through multi-lineage differentiation, immunomodulation via paracrine signaling, and extracellular vesicle communication. Prior systematic reviews, however, lacked methodological rigor — omitting clustering adjustments, REML/HKSJ estimation, prediction intervals, and publication bias modeling.

Aim: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated whether stem cell therapy produces superior clinical and radiographic outcomes compared to cell-free controls in adults with periodontal or peri-implant bone defects.

Methods: Searches across …

“The Birrundudu Drawings”, John Carty, Alistair Paterson

Talking Heads Seminar Series

The Birrundudu Drawings represent one of the most significant bodies of historical imagery ever introduced into the canons of Australian art. A collection of 810 crayon drawings were created by sixteen Aboriginal men working on a Northern Territory cattle station in 1945. Until recently, most of these drawings have never been seen, let alone researched, published or exhibited. For the last five years I have been engaged in a project firstly to share the existence of the drawings with the families of the men who made them, and then to explore whether we could also share them with the public. …

Immanuel Kant On The End Of All Things Philosophical Eschatology As Theo-Political Critique, Daniël Muller Oct 2026

Immanuel Kant On The End Of All Things Philosophical Eschatology As Theo-Political Critique, Daniël Muller

Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)

Immanuel Kant is his apocalyptically inflected essay “The End of All Things”. Throughout this text, Kant reflects upon the question of why humans expect an end to the world at all. What appears to be a series of mere metaphysical ruminations turns out to be a satirical critique of the new Prussian government’s religious policies. In this article, I argue that Kant, by teasing out moral, temporal and teleological meanings of “the end”, uses eschatological grammar to mount an ironic prophetic critique of the political enforcement of a particular type of religion by self-proclaimed Christian politicians.
