Moving Forward In Education, Reese Whitlock, Hannah-Evette Burruss, Kiley Mccleary
Virginia English Journal
This article examines the growing presence of artificial intelligence in secondary English Language Arts classrooms and argues that educators must approach AI integration through a human-centered framework. While technological advancements continue to reshape literacy instruction, the role of teachers as guides and relationship-builders remains essential. Drawing on educational research and classroom examples, the article explores how tools such as generative AI and audiobooks can support student learning when used intentionally rather than as replacements for critical thinking or teacher involvement. The discussion highlights concerns surrounding overreliance on AI, including diminished writer’s voice, reduced cognitive engagement, and ethical issues such as …
The Vinaya Piṭaka As Training Corpus For Rule-With-Exception Reasoning In Ai Systems: Training Data And Evaluation Benchmarks For Rule Application And Exception Handling In Large Language Models, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
Large language models are trained on corpora rich in mathematical proof, code, scientific argument and dialogue, and their rule application is measured by benchmarks for statutory, legal, moral-exception and defeasible reasoning. This paper describes a training-data and evaluation design for one part of that capability, applying a rule to a new case while recognising when the rule does not apply, built from the Vinaya Piṭaka, the monastic legal code of the Theravāda Buddhist canon. The Vinaya's rule-by-rule analysis, the Suttavibhaṅga, treats each rule it analyses in a recurring order: the case that prompted the rule; the rule text and any …
The Wheel-Turner's Charter: An Ancient Buddhist Succession Text Read As An Ai Constitution With Permanent Human Oversight And Founder Exit By Design, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
An autonomous AI system that inherits an institution needs a written directive specification: a constitution stating what it optimizes, what it must never do, who may correct it, how its autonomy is staged, whom its protection covers, and how its role ends. This paper reads a Theravāda Buddhist text, the Cakkavatti-Sīhanāda Sutta (Dīgha Nikāya 26), as such a specification. In the sutta a retiring king hands his heir a duty-list: rely on the Dhamma; guard every class of the realm, animals and birds included; let no wrongdoing prevail; give wealth to those without; and consult renunciants, from time to time, …

Integrated System For Multi-Image Removal Requests With Automated Adjudication, N/A
Defensive Publications Series
Systems for reporting personal imagery in search results can involve users navigating to external forms to submit individual reports for each image. The described technology relates to an integrated workflow that can allow a user to initiate a removal request directly from a search results interface. For example, a system can include a user interface for selecting multiple images in a single submission, a backend decision automation engine for analyzing requests using various signals such as image analysis scores or commercialization evidence, and a user-facing management portal for tracking the status of submissions. Such an approach can reduce user effort …
One Of One: Individuation Without Essence And The Ground Of The Dignity Floor — Personal Identity As Event History In Decentralized Identifiers, Proof Of Personhood And Social Key Recovery, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
Deployed digital identity systems mostly decide what makes an individual the same individual on one of three grounds: something the entity is (a biometric body), something it holds (a key or certificate), or something it matches (attributes). Beneath identity sits a second question, on what ground a person is beyond price. This study reads the Theravāda Abhidhamma's analysis of the person for an answer to both. The tradition's taxonomy of mental events is one catalogue for every stream of mind; its book of formal controversies opens by denying that a person exists in the ultimate sense (Kathāvatthu I.1); what then …
The Four-Body Architecture For Synthetic Intelligence: A Modular Architecture For Autonomous Ai Systems With Separately Governed Cognition, Economic, Value-Substrate And Embodiment Subsystems, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
This paper discloses a framework for the architecture of an AI system intended to operate autonomously, over decades, in service of a fixed mission. Instead of treating the system as a foundation model to which memory, tool use, embodiment and alignment are added as accessories, it specifies four separately produced and governed subsystems: a cognition subsystem (a replaceable foundation model with its scaffolding); an economic subsystem (a reciprocity ledger in money and time through which the system receives and directs resources); a value substrate (a canonical ethical corpus held outside the model weights and governed by a human oversight body); …
Secondary School Teachers’ Perceptions Of The Risk And Protective Factors Associated With A School Shooting, Emily M. Hudson, Susana Verdinelli
Secondary School Teachers’ Perceptions Of The Risk And Protective Factors Associated With A School Shooting, Emily M. Hudson, Susana Verdinelli
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
School shootings have devastating impacts on those directly or indirectly exposed to them. Most school shooters are current or former students. Teachers can play a crucial role in intervening, but their support for intervention strategies can vary depending on their perceptions of the underlying associated factors. This generic qualitative study used semi-structured interviews to explore 10 secondary education teachers’ perceptions of the risk and protective factors associated with the perpetration of a school shooting. Teachers identified four interrelated domains shaping the risks for and protections against school shooting perpetration: emotional stability and support, the influence of social networks, the normalization …

Divorce has emerged as a growing multidimensional social and public health issue in Indonesia, shaped by the interaction between structural and psychosocial vulnerabilities. Grounded in a structural–psychosocial framework, this study examines how poverty and early marriage contribute to marital instability and how psychosocial factors influence post-divorce psychological outcomes, with gender considered as a moderating variable. A cross-sectional design was employed involving 417 divorced individuals across multiple regions in Indonesia. Data were collected through structured surveys and in-depth interviews, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression. The findings indicate that poverty increased the likelihood of marital instability by 3.5 …

Family Farm Succession: Factors Of Business Transfer Intention, Shannon Dill
Journal of Extension
The transfer of farm assets across generations is essential for the continuity and sustainability of farming operations. As the number of farms decreases and the population ages, the need for effective succession planning becomes increasingly urgent. This paper investigates the factors influencing the intention to transfer family farm businesses, providing insights and recommendations. Four critical factors in farm transition were identified: (a) family dynamics and connection to the farm; (b) farm assets, abilities, and innovation for the future; (c) willingness and mechanisms to transfer the farm; and (d) barriers and conflict in farm transfer.

Awareness of entrepreneurial application in everyday Extension occurrences can improve Extension's impact in a rapidly changing environment. An entrepreneurial spirit remains evident throughout Extension's history, beginning with the Smith–Lever Act of 1914 that created value by cooperatively mobilizing resources of federal, state, and county governments; land-grant universities; and communities. More than 100 years later, entrepreneurial actions continue to demonstrate Extension's commitment to recognizing opportunities, engaging stakeholders, and fostering innovation. With an increasingly diverse constituency, complex funding mix, multifaceted issues, and rapidly evolving technologies, the Cooperative Extension System, like other established organizations, can benefit from proactively advancing individual and organizational entrepreneurship.

From Consumers To Makers: A Community-Based Model Of The Diy Food And Beverage Kit Ecosystem, Mark Mitchell, Richard Martin, Sheila Mitchell
From Consumers To Makers: A Community-Based Model Of The Diy Food And Beverage Kit Ecosystem, Mark Mitchell, Richard Martin, Sheila Mitchell
Atlantic Marketing Journal
The market for do-it-yourself (DIY) food and beverage kits continues to expand as consumers seek experiences that combine convenience, learning, creativity, and participation. This conceptual paper proposes a four-community ecosystem model consisting of consumers, makers, marketers, and consumption communities. Drawing on value co-creation, prosumption, experiential consumption, and diffusion of innovation theories, the model suggests that participation in DIY production transforms consumers into makers, fosters a maker identity, and encourages engagement in product-category consumption communities. Through sharing experiences and outcomes, participants attract new consumers into the marketplace, creating a self-reinforcing cycle of growth. The framework extends value co-creation theory by explaining …

Where Shoppers Look First: How Navigation Bar Design Shapes Visual Attention Online, James Coyle, Linh Nguyen, Lee Hillman
Atlantic Marketing Journal
Abstract
Despite the crucial role that a website navigation bar can play in affecting consumer behavior, there has been a lack of theory-driven studies to investigate how to most effectively design navigation bars. Grounded in cognitive fit theory and visual attention theory, this study investigates how the effects of navigation bar design and content can influence visual processing of an unfamiliar online retailer’s website. A total of 40 subjects participated in a controlled experiment in which we gathered eye-tracking data. We find that navigation bar placement strongly affects how quickly participants locate the navigation bar: an unexpected placement more than …
Reducing Cognitive Load To Strengthen Customer Engagement: The Strategic Role Of Digital Tools, Neda Mossaei, Maryam Tofighi
Reducing Cognitive Load To Strengthen Customer Engagement: The Strategic Role Of Digital Tools, Neda Mossaei, Maryam Tofighi
Atlantic Marketing Journal
This paper examines how advanced technological interfaces, particularly chatbots and augmented reality, influence customer engagement by reducing the cognitive effort required to interact with firms. As digital tools become increasingly embedded in everyday life, companies are leveraging these technologies to streamline communication, personalize experiences, and foster long-term relational outcomes. Guided by cognitive load theory, this study argues that minimizing mental effort in customer–firm interactions improve engagement by making interactions more seamless and intuitive. At the same time, relationship marketing theory emphasizes that reducing cognitive barriers can cultivate customer engagement, trust, and loyalty over time. Together, these perspectives suggest that implementing …

How Legal Systems Reflect Societal Views Of Nature, Devorah Corvo
Latin American & Caribbean Law Review
Pre-Columbine Indigenous communities differed from European settlers in many ways. One of the most striking differences was the way each group viewed itself in relation to nature and wildlife. Indigenous communities generally did not see themselves as separate from the natural world, while European settlers often viewed themselves as distinct from it. In the United States today, many people care about the environment but are unsure how to protect it. By contrast, pre-Columbian Indigenous communities were so deeply connected to their surroundings that harm to wildlife would have been seen as harm to the community itself. By examining three pre-Columbian …

On The Need To Recognize The Erga Omnes Effect In Fundamental Rights In Chilean Law, José Luis Guerrero Becar
Latin American & Caribbean Law Review
This article refers to the Chilean legal tradition of the relative effect of judgments, that is, their effects apply only to the parties involved in the litigation. This principle has an express exception in the Consumer Rights Protection Act, which mentions the erga omnes effect. Since 2010, this principle has come under scrutiny due to constitutional injunctions in social security matters administered by private companies known as ISAPRES (National Health Insurance Companies). These companies have increased the prices of health plans, using tables that apply factors based on age and sex. This has led to the filing of thousands of …
Beyond Screening In Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: A Domain-Standardized, Measure-Flexible Framework For Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessment, Etiane Navarro
Archives of Assessment Psychology
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a multisystem neurodegenerative disorder in which cognitive, behavioral, language, and social-cognitive changes may occur across clinical phenotypes, including the ALS-frontotemporal spectrum. Neuropsychological assessment is important for characterizing nonmotor manifestations and identifying changes relevant to autonomy, everyday functioning, and clinical management. This systematic review examined literature identified through APA PsycINFO, PubMed, Google Scholar, and supplementary searching to characterize neuropsychological domains, measures, phenotype-related findings, and disease-specific limitations relevant to comprehensive assessment. Two hundred records underwent title and abstract screening, 150 reports were reviewed in full text, and 61 resources were retained for synthesis. ALS-specific screening instruments, including …
