Sexual Education And Sti Prevention In High School: A Neutrosophic Analysis Of The Opportunities And Risks Of Generative Artificial Intelligence, Antonio Pioquinto Rivera, Gregorio Nunez Hernandez, Rosalinda Villa Juarez Sep 2026

Sexual Education And Sti Prevention In High School: A Neutrosophic Analysis Of The Opportunities And Risks Of Generative Artificial Intelligence, Antonio Pioquinto Rivera, Gregorio Nunez Hernandez, Rosalinda Villa Juarez

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain a critical challenge during adolescence. Given the limitations of traditional sex education, generative artificial intelligence (GAI) has emerged as a personalized and anonymous consultation alternative. This study analyzes, from a neutrosophic perspective, the scientific evidence published between 2019 and 2026 on the use of GAI to strengthen STI prevention among high school students. Through a critical integrative review of thirteen reference studies, a matrix was built that classifies the findings across four dimensions (AI-mediated learning, sexual education, STI prevention, and educational equity) according to their truth (T), falsity (F), and indeterminacy (I) components. The results …

Project-Based Learning And Mathematical Competencies In Primary Education: A Neutrosophic Cognitive Map Reading Of A Critical Integrative Review, Uriostegui Adan Yurithzi Majogani

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Developing mathematical competencies in primary school is essential for interacting with the environment. Faced with the limitations of traditional direct instruction, project-based learning (PBL) has emerged as an active alternative. This study analyzes, through a critical integrative review of ten reference studies (2016-2026), whether PBL determines the development of basic mathematical competencies in primary school students, and formalizes the resulting conceptual system as a neutrosophic cognitive map (NCM) with eight concepts and nine causal connections classified as positive, negative, or indeterminate. The static analysis of the map identifies PBL as the most central concept and makes explicit that the direct …

How Certain Is An Institutional Research Profile? Three Undeclared Decisions, And A Neutrosophic Reading Of What They Cost, Alexis Matheu Perez, Bastian Gutierrez

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Institutional bibliometric profiles report Lotka's exponent, a Bradford core and a Price ratio as if they were properties of the institution. They are properties of the institution together with three decisions that the reporting almost never states: which source defines the corpus, which document types are compared, and which population of authors the laws are fitted on. This article measures what each decision is worth, using Universidad Bernardo O'Higgins (UBO, Santiago, Chile) as the case and Universidad Bolivariana del Ecuador as a control. Since the resulting uncertainty is not sampling error, we give it a place to be reported: a …

Whose Neighbourhood: A Study Of Early Challenges And Opportunities In Delivering Pride In Place, Katharine Willis, Kasper De Graaf Sep 2026

Whose Neighbourhood: A Study Of Early Challenges And Opportunities In Delivering Pride In Place, Katharine Willis, Kasper De Graaf

School of Art, Design and Architecture

’Whose neighbourhood?‘ examines the early challenges and opportunities in delivering the Government’s Pride in Place programme and asks what is needed to turn the devolution of funding into genuine community power.Pride in Place provides 284 neighbourhoods across the UK with up to £20 million each in funding and support over ten years, with local communities intended to play the leading role in deciding how that investment is used. The report welcomes the scale, duration and community-led ambition of the programme, but finds that there remains a significant gap between that ambition and the practical capability needed to deliver it — …

Temporal Changes In Mechanical Pin Prick Sensitivity Following High Frequency Induced Sensitisation Of Central Nociceptive Pathways: A Test Re-Test Reliability Study, Samuel Mugglestone, Giorgio Ganis, Sam W. Hughes Sep 2026

Temporal Changes In Mechanical Pin Prick Sensitivity Following High Frequency Induced Sensitisation Of Central Nociceptive Pathways: A Test Re-Test Reliability Study, Samuel Mugglestone, Giorgio Ganis, Sam W. Hughes

School of Psychology

High-frequency stimulation (HFS) is a human surrogate model of secondary hyperalgesia and a key experimental tool for understanding the mechanisms and modulation of central nociceptive pathways. An emerging area of research focuses on the role of top-down endogenous analgesic systems during secondary hyperalgesia development. However, the test-retest reliability of the early temporal changes in sensitivity are poorly understood. In the present study, we investigated the between-session reliability of the early temporal dynamics and late-phase expression of HFS-induced changes in mechanical pinprick sensitivity in a heterotopic area on the forearm in 28 healthy participants across five time points relative to HFS …

The Impact Of Stigma On The Mmpi-3 Scores Of An Indo-Caribbean Community Sample, Julia Persaud-Naipaul Sep 2026

The Impact Of Stigma On The Mmpi-3 Scores Of An Indo-Caribbean Community Sample, Julia Persaud-Naipaul

Theses and Dissertations

Evaluation of personality and psychological disorders is accomplished through the use of psychometric measures. However, tests require interpretation of test responses using a normative criterion based on a particular population that may not fully consider the effect of cultural influences on an individual’s level of willingness to report psychological difficulties. For example, individuals in collectivistic cultures may not be as willing to self-report problems because mental illness is often perceived as a source of embarrassment and shame. One culturally unique population that has been overlooked in psychological assessment is the Indo-Caribbean population. Their specific cultural values, beliefs, attitudes, and practices …

The Stickiness Of Meritocratic Beliefs From Adolescence To Adulthood In Singapore, Yen Kiat Chong, Shin Bin Tan, Vincent Chua, Han Ei Chew Sep 2026

The Stickiness Of Meritocratic Beliefs From Adolescence To Adulthood In Singapore, Yen Kiat Chong, Shin Bin Tan, Vincent Chua, Han Ei Chew

Research Collection Office of Impact

The belief in meritocracy has been rising over the past few decades in developed countries. While many studies have focused on the belief in meritocracy, its distribution across groups and its effects, much less is known about how beliefs may change as individuals age and undergo major life transitions. Using linear growth models on three waves of panel data from a national youth survey in Singapore, we found that the major life transitions to adulthood – progressing through the education system (e.g., completing tertiary education), transiting from full-time studies to full-time work, getting married and becoming a parent – predicted …

Intracommunity Social Capital Systems Of Class And Caste In South Asian Intimate-Partner Violence Survivor Outcomes, Vriddhi Vinay Sep 2026

Intracommunity Social Capital Systems Of Class And Caste In South Asian Intimate-Partner Violence Survivor Outcomes, Vriddhi Vinay

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

This study theorizes how caste and class function as transnational forms of social capital that structure intimate partner violence (IPV) outcomes among South Asian diasporic women in the New York City metropolitan area. While existing IPV scholarship foregrounds migration status, gender, and legal precarity, it often treats South Asian communities as internally homogeneous and overlooks how intracommunity hierarchies mediate access to support. Drawing on social capital theory and postcolonial feminist frameworks, this research positions caste and class stratification as underexamined axes of stratification within United States-based IPV analysis. Using survey data from 24 South Asian woman-identifying IPV survivors in New …

Role Of The Corticostriatal Pathway In Learning With Interoceptive Nicotine Stimulus, Tyler Allen Sep 2026

Role Of The Corticostriatal Pathway In Learning With Interoceptive Nicotine Stimulus, Tyler Allen

Doctoral Dissertations

Tobacco use, primarily smoking, is the leading preventable cause of death, causing eight million deaths annually. Nicotine, the main addictive constituent of tobacco, acts as a reinforcer and as an interoceptive conditioned stimulus. While its pharmacology is well studied, the neural mechanisms of learning with nicotine remain underexplored. We examined the role of prelimbic cortex (PL) projections to the anterior dorsomedial caudate putamen (a-dmCPu) in nicotine-evoked goal-tracking. To achieve pathway-specific inhibition, we expressed Designer Receptors Exclusively Activated by Designer Drugs (DREADDs) in male and female rats. Subsequently, rats underwent self-administration conditioning in which active responses delivered intravenous (IV) nicotine followed …

Individual Differences In The Granularity, Complexity, And Diversity Of Bodily Sensations, Alexandra L. Ecker Sep 2026

Individual Differences In The Granularity, Complexity, And Diversity Of Bodily Sensations, Alexandra L. Ecker

Doctoral Dissertations

The majority of theories of emotion posit that the body is central to the experience of emotion (see, e.g., Barrett & Bar, 2009; Barrett, 2006; Lindquist, 2013; James, 1884; Schacter & Singer, 1962; Gendron & Feldman Barrett, 2009; Stemmler, 2004; Kreibig, 2010; Russell, 2003). Thus, it is no surprise that body awareness, or the subjective awareness of internal sensations (Mehling et al., 2009), has gained much attention in emotion research. There is some evidence that body awareness (BA) is related to both affective experience (i.e., general feelings of pleasantness/unpleasantness and activation/deactivation; MacVittie et al., 2025a), emotional intensity (i.e., the strength …

Parental Involvement In An Indonesian Islamic Kindergarten: An Instrumental Case Study Of Mothers’ Voices, Somariah Fitriani, Yessy Yanita Sari, Irdalisa Irdalisa, Hamidah Mohamad

The Qualitative Report

Parental involvement plays a critical role in children’s cognitive, effective, and psychomotor development; however, limited research has explored mothers’ perceptions of parenting and practices of parental involvement and parenting styles. This instrumental case study employed semi-structured interviews with 23 mothers in an Indonesian Islamic kindergarten to explore their understandings, experiences, and beliefs regarding parental involvement. It also aims to identify different kinds of parenting styles. The study revealed three themes, indicating that parenting and parental involvement are understood as an educating process, an interaction process between parents and children, and a mechanism for supporting children’s development. The findings indicate that …

Intimate Partner Violence And Emotion Regulation Among Emerging Adults: Investigating The Roles Of Dispositional Mindfulness And Executive Function In The Context Of A Laboratory-Induced Stress Paradigm, Mikell Bursky Sep 2026

Intimate Partner Violence And Emotion Regulation Among Emerging Adults: Investigating The Roles Of Dispositional Mindfulness And Executive Function In The Context Of A Laboratory-Induced Stress Paradigm, Mikell Bursky

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is a major public health concern that impacts an estimated 10 million men and women in the United States annually. IPV refers to a range of physical, sexual or psychological forms of aggression committed against a current or former romantic partner in the context of a relationship. The highest rates of IPV are observed in emerging adulthood, a developmental period between the ages of 18 to 25 that is significant for the transition from adolescence into adulthood, and the establishment of first meaningful intimate relationships. Although distal risk factors for IPV such as violence in the …

Teaching Third Graders To Read Multisyllable Words: Segmentation Versus Whole Word Reading, Jolie D. Heath Sep 2026

Teaching Third Graders To Read Multisyllable Words: Segmentation Versus Whole Word Reading, Jolie D. Heath

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

In the early years of elementary school when children are still learning to read, they are presented with words of increased syllable length, and orthographic and morphological complexity in the texts they read.  Although multisyllabic words comprise 90% of words in the English lexicon and carry important linguistic information for expanding vocabularies and comprehension of content, few studies have focused on teaching middle elementary children to read multisyllabic words.  Many children lack strategies to identify these longer more complex words accurately and easily, leading to reading difficulties that place weaker readers at higher risk for school related problems and limit …

Modeling And Generating Trustworthy Speech, Yuwen Yu Sep 2026

Modeling And Generating Trustworthy Speech, Yuwen Yu

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

As virtual agents become increasingly integrated into everyday communication, trust has become essential for effective human-AI interaction. Although recent advances in natural language generation and speech synthesis have significantly improved fluency and intelligibility, most systems are not designed to control how trustworthy they are perceived. As a result, a mismatch can emerge between perceived trustworthiness and actual system capability, leading to over-trust or under-trust. While trust is critical for meaningful interaction, current text-to-speech (TTS) systems are primarily optimized for naturalness and intelligibility rather than calibrated trustworthiness.

This dissertation investigates the perceptual foundations of trust in both human and synthesized speech …

New York City Women’S Experiences With Perinatal Depression Inquiries, Diagnosis, And Treatment Initiation, Caterina Pisciotta Sep 2026

New York City Women’S Experiences With Perinatal Depression Inquiries, Diagnosis, And Treatment Initiation, Caterina Pisciotta

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

Perinatal depression represents a significant public health concern, yet many women who experience depression symptoms during the perinatal period (either during pregnancy and/or after birth) do not receive treatment. Initiatives, such as ThriveNYC, were designed to address these gaps by screening and treating perinatal women for maternal depression, integrating screening into routine perinatal care and strengthening pathways to treatment. Using representative survey data collected between 2016 and 2021 via the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS), this study examined trends in perinatal depression inquiries (a proxy for “screening”) and postpartum diagnosis, as well as …

Opportunities For Learning Through Object Exploration During Early Physical Therapy: Physical Therapists’ And Caregivers’ Assistance And Interference Behaviors, Michele Goncalves Maia

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

Early physical therapy (EPT) for infants with motor delays has traditionally emphasized motor milestone acquisition, yet growing evidence indicates that motor and cognitive development are fundamentally interconnected. Grounded in embodied cognition and developmental cascade theories, this dissertation conceptualized object exploration as a primary mechanism through which infants learn during EPT and examined how intervention approaches and adult behaviors shape opportunities for object exploration. Using retrospective analyses of video-recorded EPT sessions, two studies investigated how intervention approaches and adult behaviors influence infants' opportunities to learn through object exploration. Study 1 compared object exploration in the START-Play (SP) intervention and Usual Care …

Flow, an optimal experience characterized by deep immersion and engagement in an activity, has been extensively studied in behavioral research. However, its neural dynamic mechanism remains poorly understood. In a within-subject video gaming experiment, we captured neural activity underlying flow, boredom, and anxiety using a 64-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) system. Compared to boredom and anxiety, flow exhibits the highest global functional connectivity, metastability, and dimensionality of dynamic functional connectivity patterns, suggesting that flow is a highly adaptable process that is supported by high-dimensional neural dynamics. Unlike previous studies that focused on identifying static or localized brain activity, we examine the neural …

Taxi Geometry And Euclidean Geometry: Congruence And Similarity Of Triangles, Jose Carlos Pinto Leivas, Osvaldo Jesus Rojas Velazquez, Diana Carolina Perez Duarte, Randy Zabaleta Mesino

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This article presents an instrument that describes the experience implemented with students of a graduate programme in the courses of Analytic Geometry and Linear Algebra. The purpose of the instrument, as a didactic resource, was to analyse how the connections between the classical cases of congruence and similarity of triangles in Euclidean Geometry and in Taxi Geometry can be explored. The metric analysis of the productions shows that the three classical congruence criteria - SSS, SAS and ASA - cease to hold under the taxicab metric, and that equilaterality does not imply equiangularity in that geometry. In addition, a neutrosophic …

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences

Children with multiple disabilities often encounter significant barriers to participating in physical activity, impacting not only their physical health but also their overall experience in school. This study places the voices of four children at the centre of their own research, exploring their lived experiences of participating in physical activity in school. Using Clark’s (2017) Mosaic approach, this child-centred participatory study shows how children take part and engage with physical activity as part of their school day. Using videos and photography, child-led tours and ethically sensitive conversations with researchers, children shared a range of opportunities for enjoyment, exploration and interactions …

Autonomy, Adolescents, And Artificial Intelligence, Michael J. S. Beauvais Sep 2026

Autonomy, Adolescents, And Artificial Intelligence, Michael J. S. Beauvais

Journal of Science & Technology Law

In this essay, I explore the potential implications of adolescent use of AI assistants on the development of adolescents’ capacities for autonomy. Thinking through these issues from the perspective of first principles is, I believe, needed in order to sharpen our understanding of some of the issues AI assistants pose for young people. A clear analysis will suggest which legal or policy prescriptions should follow.

I first give an overview of adolescent use of AI assistants, noting their popularity and the variety of use contexts. Drawing upon the work of Catriona Mackenzie, I then outline a relational conception of autonomy …
