Astrophysical Radiative Capture Reaction Rates In Light Nuclei: A Review Of Results From The Modified Potential Cluster Model, S. B. Dubovichenko, B. M. Yeleusheva, A. S. Tkachenko, R. Ya. Kezerashvili

Publications and Research

A review of results obtained within a single theoretical framework—the Modified Potential Cluster Model (MPCM)—is presented for astrophysical radiative capture reactions involving the lightest and 1p-shell nuclei. The approach has been applied to reactions relevant to the r-process, the CNO and HCNO cycles, and parts of the Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) and post-BBN scenarios. The model incorporates the classification of orbital states according to Young’s diagrams and has been successfully applied to describe the available experimental data on the total cross sections of the radiative capture of neutrons, protons, and the lightest clusters by 40 light nuclei at astrophysical energies. …

Convergent Molecular Pathways And Shared Genetic Mechanisms In Classic Syndromic Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Narrative Review, Ryan Bourgaize, Aderonke Oyetunji, Merlin G. Butler

Student Publications

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are defined as a group of neurodevelopmental disorders that share common core features including restrictive repetitive stereotypic behavioral patterns and interests affecting social communication. Over 1,200 genes have been associated with ASD and impacted by copy number variants, chromosomal, and/or single gene defects or epigenetics. Genetic factors contribute to most cases of autism. At least twelve classic genetic disorders with autism as a common feature were selected involving 31 causative or implicated genes with 30 recognized as ASD genes. These disorders were selected to represent a range of genetic abnormalities such as chromosomal deletions, duplications, or …

Trauma-Informed Education For Teachers As A Form Of Disaster Preparedness And Mitigation Across Cultural Contexts, Emma A. Aellen Oct 2026

Trauma-Informed Education For Teachers As A Form Of Disaster Preparedness And Mitigation Across Cultural Contexts, Emma A. Aellen

Master of Arts in Human Services

Natural disasters are ecological events that cause mass casualties and physical destruction. They are also psychological and cultural happenings which shape the lives of the affected people well beyond the immediate crisis. Emergency response systems have historically prioritized the needs for material relief, such as food, shelter, and infrastructure repair, but all while neglecting mental health support. This review draws on disaster psychology, education, and community resilience research, including cross-cultural, organizational, and institutional theory, intervention programs, and disaster mental health policy. Sources were analyzed thematically to build a multi-actor framework linking teachers, schools, and communities in post-disaster recovery. The review …

Child Survivors Of Intimate Partner Homicide, Pang Lee Oct 2026

Child Survivors Of Intimate Partner Homicide, Pang Lee

Master of Arts in Human Services

The purpose of this capstone paper was to educate and examine the impact of intimate partner homicide on child survivors, on traumatic losses that disrupt their emotional, social development, and educational well-being. Findings indicated that the mental health and long-term life trajectory for child survivors were varied by the developmental stage the child was affected, prior exposure to violence, placement stability, caregiver capacity, school advocacy, and access to specialized support services that were detrimental to children’s futures. Although coordinated family, school, and community-based care can promote stability, there is a lack of evidence limited by inconsistent identification of survivors and …

Beyond The Neocortex: Pallial Routes To The Edge Of Sentience, Oryan Zacks Oct 2026

Beyond The Neocortex: Pallial Routes To The Edge Of Sentience, Oryan Zacks

Animal Sentience

In The Edge of Sentience, the sentience candidacy of fishes and reptiles is strengthened if one accepts midbrain-centric theories of human consciousness. In this commentary I attempt to untether the two positions. I suggest that we need not look for a one-to-one match between the neocortex and a single pallial structure outside of mammals. Instead, a sufficient similarity might exist between the mammalian neocortex and the combination of pallium and midbrain in fishes and reptiles. Adopting an evolutionary perspective in the study of vertebrate brains could point to new investigation priorities in human and animal research.

Drone Photography: Balancing Privacy, Property And Legal Boundaries In Malaysia And Comparative Perspective, Manique Cooray, Wong Hua Siong, Ivy Chin Hann Wei

Hasanuddin Law Review

The rapid advancement and widespread accessibility of drone technology have significantly transformed aerial photography, enabling individuals and organisations to capture images and videos with ease and affordability. While drone photography offers benefits in journalism, mapping, disaster management, and commercial services, it also raises legal concerns relating to land ownership, airspace rights, trespass, nuisance, and privacy. In many jurisdictions, existing legal frameworks were developed prior to unmanned aerial vehicles and struggle to address the regulatory challenges posed by drones. This study examines the legal implications of drone photography from the perspective of land law and privacy protection, with reference to Malaysia …

Materiality In Saudi Real Estate Development Contracts: Comparative Jurisprudence And Cross-Border Disputes, Abdulrahman Mohammed Alzeer Oct 2026

Materiality In Saudi Real Estate Development Contracts: Comparative Jurisprudence And Cross-Border Disputes, Abdulrahman Mohammed Alzeer

Hasanuddin Law Review

The Saudi Civil Transactions Law (CTL) contains materiality-related standards that apply at different phases of the contract life cycle as separate doctrines rather than as an overarching doctrine. Article 74 uses a counterfactual analysis of partial invalidity and severability, while Articles 95 and 107 address the characteristics or purposes of contractual performance and the consequences of non-performance. The difficulty is not a conflict between Articles 74 and 107, but the absence of a unified analytical model for assessing the significance of non-performance under provisions on performance, interpretation, defect, and remedy. This article addresses these fragmented CTL elements and contends that …

From Classroom To Courtroom: Cross-Jurisdictional Legal Protections For Teachers In Student Disciplinary Cases, Sapto Budoyo, Nadea Lathifah Nugraheni, Praditya Arcy Pratama, Mahyuddin Bin Arsat Oct 2026

From Classroom To Courtroom: Cross-Jurisdictional Legal Protections For Teachers In Student Disciplinary Cases, Sapto Budoyo, Nadea Lathifah Nugraheni, Praditya Arcy Pratama, Mahyuddin Bin Arsat

Hasanuddin Law Review

Legal protections for teachers in student disciplinary cases are increasingly urgent. This study investigates the legal protections afforded to teachers in managing student disciplinary cases in Indonesia and Malaysia, highlighting how legislative frameworks, sociocultural influences, and institutional mechanisms shape teachers' rights and responsibilities. Using a comparative legal approach, the research analyzes statutory provisions, policy directives, and educational practices in both jurisdictions. The comparison indicates that Malaysia offers a more institutionally structured framework by defining school-level disciplinary authority and separating authorized disciplinary measures from individual teacher discretion. This framework balances educator autonomy with student rights, although gaps remain in enforcement and …

Problems With The Problem Gambling Severity Index (Pgsi): Is It Fit For Public Health Monitoring Of Gambling Harms? An Analysis With Rasch Measurement Theor, James Close, Ryan Statton

School of Psychology

Objective: The Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI) is a widely used tool for measuring gambling-related issues, playing a central role in service delivery and national monitoring, especially in the British context. However, it was developed a quarter of a century ago under clinical paradigms of “problem gambling,” raisingquestions about alignment with contemporary public health approaches. This study evaluates the suitability of PGSI for clinical and population-level monitoring, using Rasch Measurement Theory. Method: Rasch Measurement Theory analysis was conducted on PGSI data from national data sets: Health Survey for United Kingdom, Scottish Health Survey, National Survey for Wales, and Gambling Survey …

Seasonal Variations In Radar Backscatter And Corn Vegetation In The South Fork Iowa River Watershed During The Growing Season Of 2025, Monika Bhusal

Scholars Week

Remote sensing provides complementary information on crop development and surface conditions, but radar backscatter over agricultural areas can be influenced by vegetation and soil characteristics. This study examines seasonal relationships between Sentinel-1 radar backscatter and Landsat-derived vegetation greenness over corn-growing areas in the South Fork Iowa River Watershed, Iowa, during the 2025 growing season. Landsat 8/9 was used to derive the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), while OPERA RTC-S1 imagery provided VV and VH backscatter and a VH/VV polarization measure. USDA Cropland Data Layer was used to identify corn growing areas, and analysis was restricted to areas with common satellite …

Literacy Activities To Prepare Mll Students For An Art Museum Visit, Marion J. Tate Oct 2026

Literacy Activities To Prepare Mll Students For An Art Museum Visit, Marion J. Tate

Michigan Reading Journal

This article describes how I prepared newcomer Yemeni students to visit, understand, and learn from museums while also strengthening their English language development and cultural identity. Many students had limited English proficiency; however, they brought rich personal, family, and cultural knowledge into the classroom. To build on those strengths, I used literacy-based activities before, during, and after museum visits. These activities included shared and independent reading with e-books, pre-assessment charts, vocabulary development, guided discussions, reflective writing, collage-making, and student-led decision-making. Each strategy helped students practice English in meaningful ways while connecting museum content to memory, immigration, history, culture, and identity. …

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping how educators access information, analyze learning, and engage in professional learning, yet its adoption among K–12 educators remains limited compared to the students they serve. This article examines the potential of AI-enhanced professional learning for literacy educators and argues that professional learning providers must move beyond teaching about AI to intentionally using AI within the design, facilitation, and follow-up of professional learning experiences. Drawing on research related to effective professional development, adult learning theory, and emerging studies on generative AI, the authors explore how AI-enabled tools can support active, collaborative, and sustained professional learning …

The Anatomy And Physiology Of Signed Language Articulation, Leah C. Geer Oct 2026

The Anatomy And Physiology Of Signed Language Articulation, Leah C. Geer

Society for American Sign Language Journal

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) receive extensive training in the anatomy and physiology of the oral speech and swallowing mechanisms. However, SLPs who serve individuals using a signed language like American Sign Language (ASL) may struggle to apply their training to appropriately assess and treat signed language productions in such students. Similarly, signed language specialists often lack foundational clinical knowledge to work effectively in the context of signed production. This article provides a detailed anatomical exploration of the primary sign language articulators, highlighting parallels between oral and manual articulators. SLPs learn in graduate school which speech sounds typically emerge at what ages …

Stuttering-Like Behaviors In Asl: Clinical Position Paper On Assessment Considerations And Recommendations, Jody Cripps, Mark W. Pellowski Oct 2026

Stuttering-Like Behaviors In Asl: Clinical Position Paper On Assessment Considerations And Recommendations, Jody Cripps, Mark W. Pellowski

Society for American Sign Language Journal

Assessment of stuttering like behaviors in signed language among deaf individuals will be discussed in this paper. Several assessments have been developed over the years that evaluate deaf children’s American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency, which is a very important undertaking for this population. However, there has been very little discussion in the literature regarding the specific diagnostic tools used to evaluate deaf children’s signed language disorders and dysfluency, such as specific signed language impairment (SSLI) and signed stuttering (Cripps et al., 2016a & b). Although some American deaf children have been ‘informally’ diagnosed with SSLI (e.g., Quinto-Pozos et al., 2011, …

Comparing Soil Health Indicators Between Corn-Soy Production And Restored Utility-Prairie Systems, Katie Oakley Anthony Oct 2026

Comparing Soil Health Indicators Between Corn-Soy Production And Restored Utility-Prairie Systems, Katie Oakley Anthony

Scholars Week

It has long been known that cultivation in agroecological systems disrupts inherent soil attributes that support soil health. Soil health can be defined as the continued capacity of soil to function as a vital living ecosystem that sustains plants, animals, and humans – but is soil health a blanket concept? This research intended to address health gaps in production systems – corn-soy rotation (CS) and restored utility-prairie (UP) – based on USDA taxonomic classifications. The quality of soil is generally reported in terms of physicochemical and biological indicators. By examining same soil series in adjacent land management systems, those indicators …

Evaluation of Selected Physical Properties

Under Diverse Cropping Systems

Elizabeth Heine and Dr. Iin Handayani, Ph.D. Murray State University, Hutson College of Agriculture

Abstract

Soil quality influences agricultural productivity, water retention, nutrient cycling, and environmental sustainability. Soil organic matter (SOM), soil water at field capacity (SWFC), macroporosity, and total porosity are important indicators of soil health because they affect soil structure, aeration, and water availability. This study evaluated these properties under different land-use systems at the West Farm Complex in Calloway County, Kentucky. Soil samples were collected from corn, soybean, sunflower, tobacco, pasture, and miscanthus fields; 24 disturbed and 24 …

The “Campification” Of Old-School Broadway: Review Of Frank Loesser, Jo Swerling, And Abe Burrows’S Guys And Dolls, Kara Riley

Best Integrated Writing

This review examines the Stratford Festival’s 2026 production of Guys and Dolls and argues that director Donna Feore transforms a familiar Golden Age Broadway musical through a distinctly camp aesthetic. It explores how set design, costumes, and performances exaggerate mid-twentieth-century gender conventions and theatrical traditions, creating a playful reinterpretation of the source material. Special focus is given to the production’s visual design, its treatment of gender roles, and the standout comic performances of Jennifer Rider-Shaw as Miss Adelaide and Mark Uhre as Frank Detroit. Through close analysis of performance elements, the review demonstrates how contemporary productions can renew as well …

Influence Of Violent Media On Adolescents, Alli Shattuck Oct 2026

Influence Of Violent Media On Adolescents, Alli Shattuck

Best Integrated Writing

This review article explores the relationship between violent media exposure and adolescent behavior. The research examines how repeated exposure to violent video games, movies, and social media may lead to aggressive behaviors. Symbolic Interactionism and Social Learning Theory are used to dissect the way adolescents engage with violent media. The neurological effects of this exposure are discussed alongside environmental influences such as parental supervision and social groups. Overall, the research establishes the complexities of media influence and suggests that violent media is one contributing factor to adolescent aggression rather than the sole cause.
