The Alien Enemies Act Of 1798, Andrew Kent
The Alien Enemies Act Of 1798, Andrew Kent
Fordham Law Review
For the first time since World War II—and for the first time ever outside a formally declared war—an American president has invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to detain and deport noncitizens. Enacted during the Quasi-War with France, the Act’s operative language remains largely unchanged today. In March 2025, President Donald J. Trump proclaimed that members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua present in the United States are “alien enemies,” asserting that their activities, allegedly coordinated with President Nicolás Maduro’s government, constitute an “invasion” or “predatory incursion” within the meaning of the statute. Litigation challenging the invocation of …
A Folk Taxonomy Of Magic, Gustav Kuhn, Cyril Thomas, Griffiths Thomas
A Folk Taxonomy Of Magic, Gustav Kuhn, Cyril Thomas, Griffiths Thomas
School of Psychology
Magic tricks provide a uniquely powerful window onto the boundaries of what people consider possible, and the ways in which those boundaries can be challenged. Although there exists an effectively infinite variety of magic tricks, relatively little is known about how different magical effects relate to one another at a psychological level. Previous attempts to classify magic have largely relied on the judgments of a small number of expert magicians, rather than capturing people’s intuitive understanding of magical phenomena. Here, we introduce a new multi-dimensional taxonomy of magic that treats the observable effect (e.g., an object vanishing) and the attributed …

Powerful Pulpits: Black Preachers As Cultish Leaders In The Axman Murders, 1909-1912, Lauren N. Henley
Interdisciplinary Journal of Leadership Studies
Southwestern Louisiana and southeastern Texas experienced a series of disturbingly similar ax murders from November 1909 to August 1912. In nearly every case, a black family living within a mile of the Sunset Limited line of the Southern Pacific Railroad was brutally slaughtered in their own home, victims of a surreptitious assailant. Eventually, a young black woman would take credit for some of the crimes, ushering in the language of “religious fanaticism” as a potential motive. This confession sparked an intense period of criminalization of black male preachers, with a particular focus on Pentecostal leaders in southwestern Louisiana. This article …

Spoken Language Identification (SLID) is a well-researched area. It has previously been recognized as a crucial first stage in every multi-lingual speech recognition system. Latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning (DL) are used to highly strengthen the performance of SLID systems, allowing them to perform a crucial part in mainstream applications The gathered speaker utterances have been entered into the DL network for training phase. The language equivalent to the great posterior probability is then recognized as the target language. This study introduces an Enhancing Automatic Spoken Language Identification with Corpus Linguistics and Ensemble Deep Representation (EASLI-CLEDR) …

This article describes innovative elementary science instructional approaches based on cultural wisdom developed by preservice teachers enrolled in a teacher preparation program at a university in the U.S.-Mexico border region. As a part of a larger study, three Latina preservice elementary teachers were a part of a teacher residency in conducting community interviews and reflection activities to uncover cultural backgrounds that could inform culturally relevant STEM lesson planning, centering on family and home knowledge. This project began with family interviews during winter break and culminated in lesson planning and implementation during their science methods course in the spring semester. The …
Recovery And Resilience Of Survivors Of Sex Trafficking In Nepal, Bishnu Sapkota, Glenn M. Miles, Chitra B. Buthathoki
Recovery And Resilience Of Survivors Of Sex Trafficking In Nepal, Bishnu Sapkota, Glenn M. Miles, Chitra B. Buthathoki
Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence
This exploratory qualitative study examines how trafficking survivors in Nepalese rehabilitation centres perceive recovery and experience resilience within Nepal's specific socio-cultural context. This qualitative study employed in-depth interviews with six female sex trafficking survivors in Bagmati Province rehabilitation centres and analysed them through Bronfenbrenner's socio-ecological framework under the themes such as Hindu purity concepts, caste discrimination, joint family dynamics, and non-governmental organization dependency which shape their recovery experiences. The findings of the study reveal recovery as gradual emotional stabilization and future orientation rather than complete healing. Survivors describe stigma in terms of religious purity/pollution binary, with Dalit participants experiencing compounded …

Educator Licensure Faculty Publications and Presentations
The effects of an evidence-based literacy intervention with and without added supports to address the unique needs of multilingual learners (MLs) were assessed through an ABAB single-case withdrawal design. The dual dependent variables were reading fluency/accuracy and performance on the workbook that included spelling, vocabulary, and reading comprehension tasks. Three students (one each in second, third, and fourth grades) who qualified for English language development services and exhibited low reading performance (second and third graders) or were identified with a reading disability (fourth grader) participated. From the initial baseline phase (A1) to the final intervention phase (B2), adding supports specific …
Line Of Sight Lighting Effect In Dark Environment And Its Impact On Interactive Horror Game Experience, Hamzah Asyrani Sulaiman, Fuyen Heng
Line Of Sight Lighting Effect In Dark Environment And Its Impact On Interactive Horror Game Experience, Hamzah Asyrani Sulaiman, Fuyen Heng
Malaysian Journal of Computing (MJoC)
Lighting effects in dark environments represent a fundamental psychological mechanism in horror game design, directly shaping player immersion, emotional tension, and the quality of interactive experience. Although Line of Sight (LoS) technology has been widely adopted across many game genres, empirical investigations examining how LoS-based dynamic lighting specifically affects player engagement, usability, and visual aesthetic perception within single-player horror puzzle contexts remain scarce. This paper presents the design, development, and user evaluation of “No One Left”, a three-dimensional top-down horror puzzle game developed using Unreal Engine 4, which systematically employs LoS-based lighting mechanics within a dark environment to restrict player …
Turning Ontologies Into Vectors: Embedding Malay Ontological Knowledge For Smarter Machine Learning, Zayanah Zafirah Zulkipli, Ruhaila Maskat, Noor Hasimah Ibrahim Teo, Jie Zhang
Turning Ontologies Into Vectors: Embedding Malay Ontological Knowledge For Smarter Machine Learning, Zayanah Zafirah Zulkipli, Ruhaila Maskat, Noor Hasimah Ibrahim Teo, Jie Zhang
Malaysian Journal of Computing (MJoC)
This conceptual study proposes a three-layer methodological framework for representing Malay ontological knowledge in continuous vector spaces and integrating ontology-derived representations with machine-learning models. The framework comprises an Ontology Layer, an Embedding Layer, and an Integration Layer. Its contribution is not a new ontology-embedding algorithm rather, it provides a Malay-oriented methodological organization that links ontology construction, embedding-method selection, symbolic-subsymbolic fusion, ontology-guided consistency checking, and downstream evaluation. In the present study, the ontology layer is represented through a prototype Malay linguistic ontology and its class hierarchy and knowledge graph, whereas the embedding, integration, consistency-checking, and downstream evaluation stages are proposed components …

A Fuzzy Logic Decision Support System For University Student Dropout Assessment, Adam Aiman A Hamid, Harliza Mohd Hanif, Siti Rahimah Batcha, Nur Zafirah Mohd Sidek, Noratika Nordin, Norain Alwi
Malaysian Journal of Computing (MJoC)
Student dropout continues to be an issue in universities, which has a negative impact on the academic performance of students and the reputation of educational institutions. Since the dropout decision is affected by multiple factors like academic performance, financial situation, stress, and self-motivation, the status of these factors can be highly uncertain, subjective, and conventional assessment methods cannot consider this impreciseness. This study designed a fuzzy logic–based decision support system approach to account for the risk of student dropout in a flexible and human-like way. The purpose of this study was to assess the potential risk of a student dropout …
Bicultural Lives, Indigenous Futures: Identity, Language, And The Science Of Well-Being, Teresa D. Lafromboise
Bicultural Lives, Indigenous Futures: Identity, Language, And The Science Of Well-Being, Teresa D. Lafromboise
Online Readings in Psychology and Culture
Indigenous well-being is strengthened when cultural identity, language, community, and contemporary life are understood not as competing worlds, but as interconnected sources of strength. This talk examines how bicultural competence is linked to psychological well-being, highlighting how Native American people draw on both cultural traditions and broader society while maintaining a strong sense of ethnic-racial identity and belonging. It considers the protective roles of cultural engagement, Indigenous language, tribal connectedness, and culturally grounded approaches to resilient adaptation. Together, these perspectives challenge deficit-based views of Indigenous communities and point to a science of well-being that recognizes culture not simply as context …

Defining Teacher Envelopment: A Non-Aristotelian Approach To Meta-Practices In The Philosophy Of Teacher Education, Rob Blom
Journal of Contemplative and Holistic Education
The late Jonathan Neufeld argued that redefining teacher development required meta-practices, yet he never defined what these meta-practices were. To define them rigorously requires grounding teacher cultivation practices within coherent structures of truth capable of withstanding philosophical scrutiny—a challenge intensified by post- truth discourse that flattens epistemological depth in secularised educational theory. This paper advances a theory of teacher envelopment to complement conventional teacher development through identifying mindfulness and discernment as foundational meta-practices grounded in non-Aristotelian systems. The framework rests on three interrelated concepts: (1) truth paradigms encompassing contemplative, articulatory, and embodied dimensions; (2) epistemological depth as extensional practices that …

No Mud, No Lotus: Ways To Metabolize Suffering, Heesoon Bai, Heather Williams, Renata Cueto De Souza, Mel Voulgaris, Charles Scott, Anna Rumjahn, Avraham Cohen, Zuzana Vasko Dr.
Journal of Contemplative and Holistic Education
This paper builds on the foundation of mainly Buddhist and existential contemplative philosophies a theoretical and practical framework for understanding and working with suffering as a transformational setting for human development and maturation. The authors propose that the first step in this path of transformation is radical acceptance of suffering as fundamental “truth” about human life, which could re-orient us from the usual mindset of avoidance, denial, dismissal, moralizing, or aggressive elimination of suffering. The next step in this reorientation is seeing suffering as containing valuable “nutrients” for human development and maturation, just as, analogically speaking, mud can grow lotus …
Hear My Voice As Who I Am: Theorizing The Essence Of Poetry In Holistic Global Citizenship Education, Shue-Kei Joanna Mok
Hear My Voice As Who I Am: Theorizing The Essence Of Poetry In Holistic Global Citizenship Education, Shue-Kei Joanna Mok
Journal of Contemplative and Holistic Education
Poetry as an imaginative language art has long been perceived as the core of humanity, the foundation of human advancement (Arnold,1880; Rorty, 2007). By composing, critiquing, and sharing/performing poems, not only does the process enrich and deepen one’s relationship to oneself, understanding and reflecting on the contextual, historical, cultural, social, and creative backgrounds of the poems and poets allows one to have greater connections with the broader environment across temporal, spatial, and social dimensions with human and non-human beings.
This paper first frames the core concepts and values of global citizenship from a Confucius perspective to emphasize the significance of …

Leadership And Integrated Governance: New Recipe To Transforming Institutional Capacity For Sustainable Village-Owned Enterprises (Bum Desa), Amni Zarkasyi Rahman, Satria Aji Imawan, Prihantoro Prihantoro, Dyah Lituhayu, Ika Riswanti Putranti
BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi
This study aims to investigate the interaction between integrated leadership and governance in strengthening the institutional capacity and resilience of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUM Desa). It addresses the academic gap where leadership and governance are rarely explored as an integrated framework for rural economic transformation. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research compares two contrasting models: BUM Desa Tirta Mandiri, which utilizes a hierarchical governance structure, and BUM Desa Puspa Jagad, which employs an egalitarian, community-based approach. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with key stakeholders and a comprehensive analysis of internal policy documents. The results reveal that integrated governance …
The Moderating Effect Of Digital Literacy On The Relationship Between Ai Interaction Quality And Consumer Emotional Engagement, Ali Thamer Ali Al-Ibadi
The Moderating Effect Of Digital Literacy On The Relationship Between Ai Interaction Quality And Consumer Emotional Engagement, Ali Thamer Ali Al-Ibadi
Journal of Economics and Administrative Sciences
As artificial Intelligence (AI) is having an increasing influence on the consumer-brand relationship, empirical evidence of the effects of AI-powered real-time communication on emotional brand engagement over time is scarce. Based on the Digital Emotional Brand Engagement (DEBE) model consisting of four outcome dimensions (Affective Engagement, Cognitive Engagement, Behavioral Engagement, Identification, and Emotional Attachment). The study proposes and empirically tests a model of four dimensions of AI interactions (Responsiveness and Availability, Personalization, Conversational Quality, Problem Resolution Efficiency). A descriptive-correlational quantitative design was adopted, and a sample of 400 consumers who had recently used AI-powered customer service was drawn. Multiple regression …
"Heil, O Sonne, Heil!": Schemata And Semiotics In Haydn's Oratorio Sunrises, Michael D. Slattery
"Heil, O Sonne, Heil!": Schemata And Semiotics In Haydn's Oratorio Sunrises, Michael D. Slattery
HAYDN: Online Journal of the Haydn Society of North America
Both of Haydn’s late oratorios, The Creation and The Seasons, contain depictions of sunrises, a subject matter that Sisman (2013) has characterized as “Emergent Light,” in contrast with the famous “absolute” creation of light at the opening of The Creation. In addition to their shared object of representation, the four sunrise passages I identify in these two works all use a phrase-level schema Gjerdingen (2007) has christened the Do-Re-Mi. In this paper, I enrich our cultural understanding of Haydn’s sunrises by attending to nuanced semantic implications of the Do-Re-Mi, illustrating how phrase-level schemata can construct extramusical meaning.
Work on phrase-level …
Resilience In Aging: A Grounded Theory Study On How Older Japanese Adults Navigate Chronic Illness, Dominic Bryan S. San Jose
Resilience In Aging: A Grounded Theory Study On How Older Japanese Adults Navigate Chronic Illness, Dominic Bryan S. San Jose
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
Japan’s population is one of the world’s oldest. As of 2025, over 29% of its citizens are 65 years old or older. Chronic illnesses like hypertension and diabetes are prevalent among the older population, presenting significant problems for the already stretched healthcare system. However, little is known about how older Japanese citizens actively manage chronic illness. Examining their actual experiences can help us comprehend the resilience of Japan’s elderly population on a deeper level. Using the Glaserian grounded theory approach, this study aimed to develop a theoretical framework that explains how resilience emerges in aging individuals within a Japanese sociocultural …

Embodiment, Ableism, And Age: A Qualitative Study On Gynecological Health Among Elderly Women With Disabilities In Rural Bangladesh, Anamul Hoque, Adiba Rahman, Chowdhury Anika Farah, Pranto Paul, Md Shahgahan Miah
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
In countries with LMIC status, women with disabilities often experience limited access to healthcare, and the reality is even worse, particularly for older women with disabilities. Systematic social and institutional processes, especially in many rural and low-resource contexts, render their bodies invisible and unworthy of care within reproductive and gynecological health systems. These people’s embodied experiences of aging and disability are often overlooked in dominant understandings of women’s health, which leads to gaps in care, recognition, and support. This study explores how rural elderly women with disabilities make sense of their gynecological health, and how experiences of aging, disability, gender, …

A Neutrosophic Memory-Integrity Calculus For Contradiction-Preserving Persistent Ai Agents, Rana Muhammad Zulqarnain, Saalam Ali
A Neutrosophic Memory-Integrity Calculus For Contradiction-Preserving Persistent Ai Agents, Rana Muhammad Zulqarnain, Saalam Ali
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Persistent AI agents increasingly convert interaction histories into long-lived memory, making memory transformation not retrieval alone—a central reliability problem. NMIC (Neutrosophic Memory-Integrity Calculus) formalizes the integrity of write, merge, consolidation, revision, and retrieval operations over persistent memory. Each proposition is represented through an evidence ledger carrying independent truth, indeterminacy, and falsity degrees together with reliability, provenance, temporal validity, contextual applicability, and inter-evidence dependence. A dependence-normalized hazard aggregation preserves simultaneous support and opposition while making the resulting state invariant to exact evidence duplication. Pure consolidation is governed by five integrity conditions: no support invention, no opposition invention, no manufactured certainty, contradiction …

The Algorithmic Narcissus: Ai Validation And The Atrophy Of The 'Athletic' Social Self, Ilham Phalosa Reswara, Anggi Mayangsari
Jurnal Psikologi Sosial
Artificial intelligence systems designed around continuous affirmation and minimal friction are becoming increasingly prominent as social and relational partners in everyday life. This article examines how sustained interaction with such frictionless AI systems may reshape the developmental conditions under which social selfhood forms and is maintained. Drawing on Cooley's (1902) looking glass self, Kohut's (1971) concept of optimal frustration, and the developmental literature on social competence, the article argues that frictionless AI may distort the social mirror through which identity forms, remove the manageable frustration that appears necessary for psychological growth, weaken empathic capacity, and erode the social stakes that …
Sharing Toys, Sharing Talks, Sharing Thoughts: Siblings’ Role In Language Skills And Theory Of Mind In Children, Khansa Nabila Anjani, Ike Anggraika Kuntoro
Sharing Toys, Sharing Talks, Sharing Thoughts: Siblings’ Role In Language Skills And Theory Of Mind In Children, Khansa Nabila Anjani, Ike Anggraika Kuntoro
Jurnal Psikologi Sosial
Background: Theory of mind (ToM) refers to the ability to understand one’s own and others’ mental states and is closely related to children’s prosocial behavior. Previous research has linked ToM to language skills and sibling factors; however, findings remain inconsistent. Siblings may function as early social partners who support language use and social–cognitive development, thereby influencing ToM. This study examined whether sibling presence moderates the relationship between language skills and ToM in children. Methods: Participants were 117 children aged 4–7 years from the Jabodetabek area, recruited using convenience sampling. A simple moderation analysis with bootstrapping was conducted. Results …

Decision Support System For The Selection Of Thumbprint Recognition Algorithms In Biometric Security Systems, Toqeer Jameel, Muhammad Riaz
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
This study investigates fingerprint recognition in immigration operations, emphasizing the role of biometric verification in enhancing security, fairness, and operational efficiency in international mobility. To address the uncertainty, vagueness, and imprecision inherent in fingerprint identification, a novel decision-making framework is proposed by integrating interval-valued picture fuzzy (IVPF) information. Fairly aggregation operators are introduced to combine decision makers' evaluations, while extracted fingerprint features are modeled using positive, neutral, and negative membership degrees within the IVPF environment. Objective criterion weights are determined using the criteria importance through intercriteria correlation (CRITIC) method, and individual ranking is performed via the alternative ranking order method …

Aurora-Lens: Admissibility-Controlled Epistemic Governance And Maintained Unresolved State, Margaret M. Stokes Ms
Defensive Publications Series
Aurora-Lens is an admissibility-controlled epistemic governance architecture for machine reasoning, runtime governance, maintained unresolved state, and commitment control. It treats a proposed determination as a candidate that does not automatically become an assertion, authorization, or consequential act. Candidate determinations are tested against maintained epistemic or world state and applicable authority, evidence, scope, freshness, policy, and consequence conditions before acquiring standing. The architecture permits unresolved state, containment, refusal, or non-commitment where the required basis is absent, and prevents retry, reroute, elapsed time, confidence, or cost from supplying missing warrant.
