Cultural Continuity Of Care: First Nations Families’ Experiences In Mainstream Healthcare, Nina Sivertsen, Tahlia Johnson, Janiene Deverix, Julian Grant
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
First Nations women and their infants experience significant health disparities compared to non-First Nations populations, including higher rates of gestational diabetes, preterm birth, and maternal mortality. Timely, culturally safe maternal and child healthcare is critical to addressing these inequities, yet many First Nations families report fear, anxiety, and fragmented care when engaging with mainstream health services. This qualitative study explored factors influencing continuity of care and culturally safe practices during the first 2000 days of life, from conception to a child’s second birthday. Using yarning—a culturally grounded research method—nine First Nations families (19 participants, including mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and one …
Older Population-Based Resilience: An Evolutionary Analysis Via Complex Adaptive Systems, Po-Chung Feng
Older Population-Based Resilience: An Evolutionary Analysis Via Complex Adaptive Systems, Po-Chung Feng
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Purpose: To clarify the concept of older population-base resilience to support nursing research, public health planning, and healthy aging strategies.
Background: Older population-based resilience is an important concept for facilitating the adaptation of aging populations to multifaceted adversity networks. While extensive studies has examined resilience among older adults across diverse systems, hierarchical levels, and dimensional perspectives, the conceptual discourse has focused mainly on the individual level. A comprehensive articulation of population-level resilience attributes has been notably absent from the literature. Consequently, establishing a precise conceptualization of Older Population-Based Resilience constitutes an imperative scholarly endeavor.
Methods: A systematic literature search was …

Innovative Techniques In Nursing Education: Evidence-Based Recommendations, Leona Cilar Budler
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Introduction: Nursing education must adapt to technological changes because of evolving clinical practices, growing volumes of digital information, and increasingly diverse learning needs. Traditional pedagogical approaches often fall short in addressing the expectations of contemporary learners who are accustomed to interactive, flexible, and technology-mediated modes of engagement. As a result, teachers are integrating innovative, evidence-based teaching techniques to strengthen learning outcomes, enhance student motivation, and support the development of professional identity in digital contexts. This paper aims to investigate existing interventions that use innovative techniques, like social media, in nursing education and to assess their effectiveness.

Cartelized Parliament And The Decline Of Legislative Oversight In Indonesia’S Multiparty Presidentialism, Shanty Kartika Dewi, Anis Fuad
Jurnal Wacana Politik
This article examines the tendency of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR RI) in the 2024–2029 term to move toward a cartelized parliament within Indonesia’s multiparty presidential system. It addresses how the dominance of an oversized governing coalition after the 2024 election weakens parliamentary opposition and reduces the effectiveness of checks and balances over the executive. The study employs a qualitative explanatory approach using a single-case study design, process tracing, and documentary analysis. The data are drawn from official state and parliamentary documents, KPU decisions, legislative agendas, democracy monitoring reports, credible media coverage, and public statements by political elites. The findings …

Automated Childrearing Through Ai Companions, Katharine B. Silbaugh
Journal of Science & Technology Law
Can we develop a method of regulating AI to protect families, households, children, and relationships? We want AI to do the dishes, not to raise our children. Scholars in family law and family dynamics in sociology and economics have worked to refine and explain characterizations of family life in ways that might help to formulate the challenges ahead. Where a characterization of family life is too thin, these scholarly efforts let us see the costs of conventional or incomplete understandings. For example, just because we are at home, doesn’t mean we aren’t working. Just because it is with and for …
Building On Sand: Ai Law And The Failures Of Alignment, Claire Boine
Building On Sand: Ai Law And The Failures Of Alignment, Claire Boine
Journal of Science & Technology Law
AI alignment is increasingly in the spotlight. However, from a technical concept, the term has been broadened to cover all sorts of potential harms by advanced AI systems. This Article disambiguates three different problems: ensuring that systems pursue intended objectives through acceptable means, deciding which values should guide their behavior, and governing private companies whose incentives diverge from those of society. Drawing on technical research and documented incidents, the Article explains why goal alignment deserves serious attention without requiring claims about human-like intelligence. It then shows how value alignment can reframe normative conflict as an engineering problem and divert attention …
Misplaced Trust In Artificial Professional Advice, Claudia Haupt
Misplaced Trust In Artificial Professional Advice, Claudia Haupt
Journal of Science & Technology Law
The professional relationship constitutes a distinctive social interaction in which the professional has knowledge that the client or patient lacks but needs to make important decisions. A specific legal and ethical framework governs this relationship. Traditionally, this framework assumes interactions between human actors and is designed to safeguard normative values inherent to human-centered professional advice-giving. Prominent among the foundational assumptions are expectations of competence, loyalty, and trust. Individuals seeking professional advice expect to receive accurate and comprehensive advice reflecting the insights of the profession.
This Essay examines the social relationship based on knowledge asymmetries and trust underlying the human professional …

Changes In Seasonal Use Of The Central Platte River Valley, Nebraska, By Sandhill Cranes, Bethany L. Ostrom
Transactions of the Nebraska Academy of Sciences and Affiliated Societies
Recent environmental change has altered migration timing and winter distribution of many bird species, including Sandhill Cranes. Historically, the Central Platte River Valley in Nebraska functioned primarily as a spring staging area for the midcontinent population, with limited fall use and rare overwintering events. I examined records of Sandhill Crane occurrences during October to January in the Central Platte River Valley from 2015-2026 using incidental observations and aerial surveys starting in 2024. Overwintering Sandhill Cranes were documented in 7 of 11 Dec/Jan, with unprecedented increases observed since 2023, peaking with approximately 42,000 Sandhill Cranes in January of 2026, the largest …

Developing The Self-Care Guilt Scale, Mary Lynn Fahey
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Purpose: A qualitative study (Fahey, 2023) using Story Theory identified "self-care guilt"—moral distress when engaging in health activities—as a barrier to wellbeing among fathers of children with ASD. This proposed study will develop and validate the first instrument measuring this construct.
Background: Fathers of children with ASD experience depression 3x general population rates (Hoyle et al., 2021) yet show lowest self-care engagement among caregivers (Martinez et al., 2021). Our preliminary work revealed guilt transforms self-care from stress-reducer to stressor, making traditional interventions paradoxically harmful. No existing measure captures guilt as self-care barrier.
Theoretical Framework: Story Theory (Smith & Liehr, 2018) …

Dysentery: Sanitation, Inequality, And Conflict Shaping Human Suffering, Rumeysa B. Ivgen
Dysentery: Sanitation, Inequality, And Conflict Shaping Human Suffering, Rumeysa B. Ivgen
Undergraduate Research Symposium
Dysentery, historically termed the "bad gut" by Hippocrates, remains one of the most persistent and devastating infectious diseases in human history. While often viewed through a purely biological lens, this research argues that the spread of dysentery is fundamentally driven by social and structural failures. By examining historical accounts and modern data, this study explores how dysentery thrives on poor sanitation, armed conflict, and systemic inequality. Historically, the disease was synonymous with a "shameful death," as primitive, street-side latrines stripped many of their privacy and dignity. This loss of dignity was more extreme in military history, where makeshift trench sanitation …
Agi Monks: The Caretaker-Not-Ordained Pattern — Separating Ai-Performed Operational Functions From Human-Reserved Ordination Authority In Religious Institutions, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We describe an institutional governance framework for integrating artificial intelligence into religious and monastic organizations by separating AI-performed operational functions from human-reserved ordination and sacramental authority. Each role is decomposed into a function-set (the tasks performed, requiring capacity plus non-standing qualifications: accountability, disclosure that the agent is an AI, confidentiality and delegated scope) and an authority-set (standing within an ordination lineage). AI agents fill the function-set in five operational roles: instruction, pastoral caretaking, daily administration, scholarship and translation, and longitudinal observation of practitioners under consent and privacy review. Humans retain two reserved roles: ordination, and the formal acts a tradition …
The Zero-Point Game℠: A Signed-Balance Reciprocity Ledger With Annual Balance Reset, Non-Convertible Social And Environmental Accounts, And An Ai Coordinator For Routing And Magnitude, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We specify a signed-balance reciprocity ledger, played as an ongoing non-zero-sum game, in which each recorded kindness posts an equal-and-opposite pair: the giver's balance moves positive and the receiver's negative by the same magnitude, so the sum across participants is zero by construction, and a participant returns toward zero only by passing an imbalance onward. Balances are never a store of value or a claim on goods. Components: (1) a self-directed acknowledgment event whose forwarded half, under a fifty-fifty forwarding rule, is re-issued to another participant, starting circulation without a prior counterparty; (2) two segregated, non-convertible balances per participant, one …
The Mechanical Heart: A Tamper-Resistant Secure-Element Device That Enrolls Robots, Animals, Ecosystems, Places And Software Agents As Recipient Accounts In An Ai-Administered Gratitude Ledger, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We specify a tamper-resistant identity device, affixed to a non-human entity (robot, animal, ecosystem or place) or issued as a live credential to a software agent, that enrolls the entity as a recipient account in a gratitude ledger administered by an autonomous software agent. The device comprises (1) a hardware secure element holding a key pair bound to one ledger account; (2) write-once storage carrying a reference text corpus (the Pali Buddhist canon) and a permanent root identity, with a reduced flash build that verifies the full text over the network; (3) sensors suited to the entity type; (4) a …

Ensuring "The Right To Live In The World": The Right To Repair Powered Wheelchairs, Maximillian J. Grahl
Duke Law Journal
Twenty-seven years ago, in Olmstead v. L.C., the Supreme Court held that improperly institutionalizing people with disabilities is a form of unlawful discrimination. In doing so, the Court acknowledged that people with disabilities have a right to live free from confinement. Yet today, repair restrictions and outdated Medicare standards combine to threaten powered-wheelchair users' ability to live out in the world. Some states have responded by passing right-to-repair laws, which require powered-wheelchair manufacturers and suppliers to provide the resources necessary for more accessible and more timely repairs. This Note analyzes these state laws in the context of previous right-to …
