Background: The complexity of healthcare delivery demands that practitioners collaborate effectively across disciplines to ensure patient safety and optimize outcomes. Interprofessional education (IPE) has become a cornerstone of health professions training, with the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Core Competencies providing a widely adopted framework for preparing learners for team-based care. There remains a critical need for instruments that are valid and capable of reliably assessing observable team-based behaviors. To address this gap, an interprofessional team created The Creighton Interprofessional Collaborative Evaluation (C-ICE) tool. The C-ICE plays a key role in assessing students' ability to demonstrate the IPEC Core Competencies within …

Daam2 Gene Variants P.(Asp165glu) And P.(Asn614thrfster2) In Pediatric Cryptorchidism: A Hypothesis-Generating Pilot Case-Control Study From The Eastern Black Sea Region Of Türkiye , Onur Yalçin, Çağri Doğan
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Cryptorchidism is the most common congenital anomaly of the male genitourinary system, characterized by a multifactorial etiology. The disheveled-associated activator of morphogenesis 2 (DAAM2) gene regulates androgen receptor (AR)- dependent transcription; its variants are associated with partial androgen insensitivity. Since the inguinoscrotal phase of testicular descent is androgen-dependent, we hypothesized that DAAM2 variants contribute to cryptorchidism susceptibility. This pilot study, designed to generate hypotheses rather than to establish association, investigated the frequency of two functionally characterized DAAM2 variants, p.(Asp165Glu) and p.(Asn614ThrfsTer2), in pediatric cryptorchidism.
Materials and methods: This prospective case-control study included 40 male pediatric cryptorchidism patients and 39 …

Multi-Ion Permeation And Dynamic Conductance Modulation In Connexin Gap Junction Channels, Bassam G. Haddad, Daniel M. Zuckerman, Steve L. Reichow
Chemistry Faculty Publications and Presentations
Gap junction channels formed by connexins mediate direct intercellular communication and are essential for electrical signaling and tissue homeostasis. Despite their large, solvent-accessible pores, connexin channels exhibit distinct conductance, selectivity, and rectification properties, but the molecular mechanisms underlying these behaviors remain incompletely understood. Here, we performed ~67 μs of all-atom computational electrophysiology simulations of connexin-46 (Cx46), connexin-50 (Cx50), and heterotypic Cx46/50 gap junction channels based on high-resolution open-state structures, enabling characterization of both ion permeation and long-timescale channel dynamics. Simulations reveal a multi-ion, multi-pathway permeation mechanism governed by isoform-specific energetic barriers and transient ion coordination sites that shape conductance and …
