Constrained Multiview Contrastive Learning For Jointly Supervised Representation Learning, Siyuan Dai, Kai Ye, Kun Zhao, Yang Du, Haoteng Tang, Liang Zhan

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Purpose

To develop a mutual information (MI)–based mechanism for quantifying representation distance, and to introduce a constrained multiview learning paradigm that dynamically re-ranks and selects sample views, thereby improving contrastive representation learning for lung lesion segmentation on CT images—addressing the difficulty of measuring distances in high-dimensional feature spaces and the impracticality of constructing large positive–negative sample banks in the medical domain.

Materials and Methods

The proposed framework, termed MIMIC (Mutual Information-based constrained Multi-view Contrastive learning), generates multiple frequency-domain views of CT images and performs a dynamic MI-based representation re-ranking and selection process to improve the quality of positive and negative …

Introduction: Midlife cardiovascular burden contributes to cognitive decline and dementia. However, research in diverse populations remains scarce.

Methods: We included 402 San Antonio Heart Study participants (1979–1988; midlife mean age 57.9 ± 3.8, 58.5% women, 52% Mexican American) later enrolled in the San Antonio Longitudinal Study of Aging (1992–2004). Midlife cardiovascular health was assessed using Life's Simple 7. Cognition was measured up to four times with the Mini-Mental State Examination. Generalized estimating equation models adjusted for age, sex, income, and education were used to relate cardiovascular factors to cognitive change. Sensitivity analyses evaluated attrition bias.

Results: Physical activity was associated …

Why Sports Participation Matters For Girls In Urban Core Public Schools, David Mcleod, Angela B. Pharris, David Crynes, Emmy Hufnagel, Eddie Wright, Sabrina Hynd, Tim Mclaughlin

Journal of Youth Development

Sports participation plays a critical role in supporting academic success, school engagement, and social-emotional well-being, particularly for girls in urban core public school settings. This study examines the relationship between athletic participation and academic outcomes, attendance, and social-emotional functioning in a large urban public school district during the post-COVID period. Findings indicate that student-athletes outperform non-athlete peers across multiple indicators, including grade point average, enrollment in advanced coursework, and school attendance. Female athletes, in particular, demonstrate stronger academic performance and more favorable social-emotional outcomes compared to female non-athletes. Despite these advantages, a pronounced decline in girls’ sports participation occurs between …

Preparing For The Next Big Thing: We’Ve Seen What Ai Can Do. Now, Get Ready For Cloning., Stuart L. Segelnick Dds, Ms

The New York State Dental Journal

Until recently, artificial intelligence was seen as science fiction. Now, it is interwoven into all aspects of our lives, including our dental practice. Cloning may be the next futuristic fantasy to permeate our consciousness. According to Leslie G. Biesecker, M.D., director and NIH Distinguished Investigator, Center for Precision Health Research, “Cloning, as it relates to genetics and genomics, involves using scientific methods to make identical, or virtually identical, copies of an organism, cell or DNA sequence.” As the cloning process and other bioengineering techniques advance, one can only wonder how and when they will impact the dental landscape.

Odontogenic Myxoma In Maxilla: A Case Report, Deepak Gupta, Ravinder Singh, Nazrana Maqbool B.D.S., Rakashree Chakraborty B.D.S., M.D.S.

The New York State Dental Journal

Odontogenic myxoma (OM) is a rare, benign but locally invasive intraosseous neoplasm. It is known to arise from the mesenchymal portion of the tooth germ. Although it is a slow-growing tumor, maxillary odontogenic myxomas can lead to increased morbidity caused by invasion into the maxillary sinus and middle cranial fossa. Further, it is also important to delineate the margins of OM to achieve a better treatment outcome. Here we present a case of a maxillary odontogenic myxoma in a 26-year-old female patient. The patient presented with swelling on the upper right side of the face. Computed tomography scan revealed a …

Children’s Nutrition Research Center Staff Publications

Skin carotenoid score (SCS) as measured using pressure-mediated reflection spectroscopy has been validated among adults with normal and overweight body mass index, with little validation research among adults with obesity. Therefore, the purpose of this exploratory study was to examine the validity of SCS as an approximation of fruit and vegetable intake among adults with obesity. We used samples from adults with obesity from three prior studies: The first study examined the validity of SCS among 213 adults, 34 with obesity; the second, examined sensitivity of SCS to a β-carotene-rich juice intervention among 162 adults, 14 with obesity; the third …

De La Norma A La Práctica. Integrar La Sostenibilidad Como Estrategia Transversal En El Sector Textil Y Moda., María Tamames Sobrino

Pasar …

Patterns Of Autonomous And Conditional Neural Specification For The Brain And Ventral Nerve Cord In Annelida, Nicole B. Webster, Johnny A. Davila-Sandoval, Allan M. Carrillo-Baltodano, Skyler Duda, B. Duygu Özpolat, Neva P. Meyer Sep 2026

Patterns Of Autonomous And Conditional Neural Specification For The Brain And Ventral Nerve Cord In Annelida, Nicole B. Webster, Johnny A. Davila-Sandoval, Allan M. Carrillo-Baltodano, Skyler Duda, B. Duygu Özpolat, Neva P. Meyer

Biology

Evolution of central nervous systems is a long-debated topic. Similar mechanisms of conditional neural specification linked to dorsal-ventral (D–V) axis formation have been used to support homology across several taxa. We tested for autonomous versus conditional neural specification in two distantly related annelids, Capitella teleta and Platynereis dumerilii, using blastomere isolations and ablations. Our results demonstrate autonomous specification of anterior neural tissue in isolated first-quartet (1q) micromeres for both annelids. In both annelids, partial larvae derived from isolation of the somatoblast, micromere 2d, also resulted in the formation of trunk neural tissue (ventral nerve cord or VNC), suggesting that this …

Endocarditis Caused By Candida (Candidozyma) Auris, Farah Ebrahim, Mzee Ngunga, Abdulaziz Abeid, Hilda Nasibwa, Newnex Mongare, Rodney Adam

Internal Medicine, East Africa

Candida (Candidozyma) auris has emerged as a hospital-acquired pathogen and was first reported in East Asia in 2009. Infective endocarditis due to C. auris has been rarely reported, while other Candida species account for < 2% of infective endocarditis (IE) cases. Herein we report three cases of endocarditis caused by C. auris , including a native aortic valve, a native tricuspid valve, and a prosthetic valve. Each of these cases had been in healthcare settings months to years earlier that were the likely sources of their infec- tions. These cases suggest the possibility for indolent but life-threatening infections from C. auris . ©2026 The Authors. Boise State University Publications and Presentations

In order to enable further advances in microelectronics, new processes capable of precisely depositing films are required. This is especially true of processes meant for depositing two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides, such as MoS2, a material of particular interest due to its high potential mobility even at a thickness of a few atoms. In this work, we report industry-compatible processes for depositing crystalline MoS2 with a high degree of precision. We demonstrate the successful conversion of both MoOx and MoSx films deposited via thermal atomic layer deposition using bis(tert-butylimido)bis(dimethylamino)Mo(VI) and H2O or H2S, respectively, into crystalline MoS2 films after an …

Introduction: Pain following hepatectomy may delay recovery and increase opioid use. We tested the primary hypothesis that combining lidocaine and low-dose esketamine would reduce movement-evoked pain 24 h after hepatic resection. We also evaluated whether this approach reduced opioid consumption and improved quality of recovery.

Methods: Patients having elective hepatic resections were allocated randomly to receive lidocaine-esketamine or placebo from induction of anaesthesia until the end of surgery. After surgery, patients allocated to lidocaine-esketamine were given a continuous infusion of lidocaine with esketamine for 72 h. All patients received transversus abdominis plane blocks with ropivacaine 2 mg.kg-1 after induction of …
