Background: Central line placement (CLP) is a critical skill for nurse anesthesiology residents, yet proficiency gaps can lead to serious complications, including arterial puncture, hematoma, and pneumothorax. Although ultrasound guidance is the current standard for teaching this procedure, it lacks tactile feedback, which limits learners’ spatial awareness and control—both essential for accurate needle tip tracking (NTT). This shortcoming in traditional simulation-based education (SBE) contributes to inconsistent skill acquisition and potential patient harm. . This project aimed to determine whether, among nurse anesthesiology residents, the use of AR haptic feedback versus ultrasound-guided methods in SBE would improve success in needle tip …

Background and Significance: Therapeutic communication is a core competency in nursing and a consistently prioritized workforce requirement (Broeckelman-Post et al., 2022; McGunagle & Zizka, 2020; AACN, 2021). As AI and digital learning technologies advance, nursing programs are exploring technology-enabled strategies to better prepare students for emotionally complex patient interactions. Although AI chatbots have shown value in clinical training and simulation (Chang et al., 2021; Srinivasan et al., 2024), limited evidence exists on their use to prepare students for difficult or sensitive conversations. Addressing this gap supports student resilience and prepares future nurses for communication-intensive roles.

Optimizing Research To Practice Translation Time Through The Mountain Model: A Delphi Study, Jayne Jennings Dunlap, Julee Waldrop, Staci Reynolds
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Introduction: The Mountain Model (MM) is the first published framework to merge evidence-based practice and quality improvement (EBPQI) paradigms. The primary focus of the framework is to guide practitioners in healthcare and related settings with translating research for sustained practice improvements. The nurse-led MM is in use and being cited in the literature, however the efficacy of the MM is anecdotal and is not yet supported by empirical evidence for its validity.
Design: A Delphi study of currently practicing evidence-based practice (EBP) and quality improvement (QI) experts spanning eight patient-facing disciplines in healthcare was conducted in September and October 2025 …

JMLE Submissions Open for Review
Media literacy education is widely held to have moved from a protective to a participatory paradigm. This study asks whether the children's digital rights literature that informs it has made the same move. Records were retrieved from Web of Science and Scopus (search date 31 August 2026), screened, and deduplicated, yielding 1,012 publications from 1993 to 2026. A dictionary built on the protection–provision–participation framework of the Convention on the Rights of the Child was applied to 4,507 keywords. Protection accounted for 40.4% of classified keywords, provision for 44.4%, and participation for 15.1%. Protection exceeded participation by 2.4 to 3.1 throughout, …

Introduction: Traumatic intracranial haemorrhage (tICH) commonly follows falls in elderly people, around half of whom are taking anti-thrombotic (AT) medications pre-injury. ATs are typically stopped acutely, but guidance on safe recommencement is limited. Research question: We surveyed UK neurosurgical consultants to understand variations in AT recommencement practice and inform trial design. Materials and methods: An online cross-sectional survey was distributed via the Society of British Neurological Surgeons mailing list to assess self-reported consultant practice regarding cessation and recommencement of AT therapy following tICH. Results: Sixty-two consultant neurosurgeons responded. Following tICH most are very likely or likely to stop AT therapy …

Ai-Enabled Nudging For Nursing-Led Prevention And Health Equity, Pattama S. Ulrich, Katherine M. Pallas, Michael Joseph Dino, Jean W. Davis
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Health systems face escalating burdens from physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and related noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), which disproportionately affect socioeconomically and clinically susceptible populations [1], [2]. Concurrently, artificial intelligence (AI), digital health technologies, and wearable devices are increasingly shaping health decision making and behavior change interventions [3], [4]. Nudge theory, grounded in behavioral economics, offers a noncoercive approach to influencing behavior through choice architecture while preserving individual autonomy [5], [6]. As AI enables nudges to become more personalized and scalable, conceptual clarity is needed to guide ethical, nurse-led applications that advance prevention and health equity [7], [8].
This work conceptually examines …

Machine Learning In Pediatric Surgery: Validation For Ambulatory Screening, Mary Beth Bass, Jill Kinch, Kimberly Isenberg
Machine Learning In Pediatric Surgery: Validation For Ambulatory Screening, Mary Beth Bass, Jill Kinch, Kimberly Isenberg
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Accurate screening for anesthesia eligibility criteria is crucial for pediatric ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) to ensure patient safety and optimization of resources [1,3]. Traditional manual chart review by advanced practice providers (APPs) is labor-intensive and subject to variability [2, 3, 7]. Continued growth of the ASC patient volume creates challenges for the APP team to meet the patient safety needs without adding additional support. To address these challenges, we partnered with Brim Analytics (Brim), an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered chart review tool built on a large language model. Brim interprets unstructured electronic medical record (EMR) data and applies our institutional …

Himalayan Research Papers Archive
On the morning of 26 August 2026, the mountains above Nepal’s northern frontier delivered a disaster of almost unimaginable speed and scale. A massive mass of ice, rock, and sediment detached in the high Himalayan terrain near the Nepal–Tibet border, descended roughly 1,200 metres, interacted with the Lhende Khola system, and generated a debris-rich flood that surged through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors, destroying settlements, markets, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities, and an international border crossing and transforming them into fields of mud, boulders, and wreckage within minutes (ICIMOD, 2026b; Reuters, 2026a). Satellite analysis indicates that a substantial section …

I just wanted someone in my life to show me attention . . . .” He suggested that she start seeing other dates for money and sent her out onto the streets. Seven months later, when Nicole was raped by a john, Juan beat her, pepper-sprayed her, and put her in a cold shower for three and a half hours. If Nicole had been told to see another john the next day and was arrested for prostitution, would the arrest …
Officer-Created Jeopardy In Corrections: Rethinking Use-Of-Force Review After Barnes V. Felix, Dr. Hayden Smith
Officer-Created Jeopardy In Corrections: Rethinking Use-Of-Force Review After Barnes V. Felix, Dr. Hayden Smith
Georgia Criminal Law Review
Courts typically evaluate correctional uses of force by zooming in on the last seconds before impact, asking what an officer reasonably perceived at the “moment of threat.” That frame obscures a basic feature of jail and prison operations: officers’ pre-force tactical choices often create or sharply heighten the risks that force is later used to manage. Building on Barnes v. Felix’s rejection of a rigid moment-of-threat rule and the broader state-created-danger line, this Article argues that officer-created jeopardy should be treated as a central component of constitutional and institutional review in corrections. It shows how Barnes, read alongside DeShaney, Kingsley, …

Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives
Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in the United States. Lyme neuroborreliosis occurs when systemic infection leads to neurologic involvement. Neuroborreliosis presents with a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations but classically presents with facial nerve palsy. Here, we present a case with a rare constellation of symptoms including radicular back and abdominal pain, ileus, rash, and SIADH due to Lyme disease with suspected neuroborreliosis. This case highlights the importance of recognizing atypical presentations of Lyme disease, especially for patients in Lyme endemic areas.

Recurrent Ischemic Colitis Associated With Chronic Low-Flow Physiology: Diagnostic And Therapeutic Implications, Mustafa Sadek, Alaa Almallouhi
Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives
Ischemic colitis is the most common form of intestinal ischemia and is typically associated with acute hypoperfusion states such as shock or dehydration.1 Chronic low-flow states related to persistently low baseline blood pressure may represent an underrecognized contributor to recurrent disease in the absence of classic acute triggers.2 We present a case of a 54-year-old woman with recurrent, biopsy-proven ischemic colitis occurring in the setting of persistently low blood pressure documented across multiple clinical encounters. Unlike many patients with ischemic colitis, she lacked documented atherogenic, autoimmune, radiation-related, or vasospastic risk factors, and CT angiography showed patent mesenteric vasculature. …

Acute Liver Injury Likely Induced By Alpha Lipoic Acid Contained In Dietary Supplement, Simona Maksimyan, Jonathan V. Reyes, Kasim Kazbay, Farah K. Gazi
Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives
The rise in use of herbal and dietary supplements, which are regulated as food rather than as drugs by the Food and Drug Association, poses the risk of unknown and potentially severe side effects. We describe the case of acute liver injury, characterized by significant elevation in AST and ALT, likely induced by the consumption of an over-the-counter supplement containing alpha lipoic acid (ALA). Our patient trusted in a “natural” alternative to Western medicine for management of neuropathy, which was ultimately detrimental to her liver. An immediate and sustained improvement in liver enzyme levels was noted with discontinuation of the …

Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis Presenting As Asymmetric Oligoarthritis: A Diagnostic Challenge, Hasan Obeidat, Heba Alalem, Marwan Ahmed, Mahyar Toofantabrizi
Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives
Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is an anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis classically involving the respiratory tract and kidneys. Although musculoskeletal symptoms are common, they are rarely the initial or dominant presentation, which may lead to diagnostic delays. We present the case of a man in his 40s who initially presented with acute asymmetric oligoarthritis and constitutional symptoms. Initial evaluation for infectious and crystal-related etiologies was unrevealing. During hospitalization, he developed cutaneous vasculitic lesions, including punctate digital lesions and subungual hemorrhages, prompting further investigation. Imaging revealed bilateral pulmonary nodules, and serologic testing demonstrated markedly elevated PR3-ANCA levels. Lung and skin biopsies …
