Influence Of Feeding On Health And Productivity Of Ruminants, Alexander Sommer
Influence Of Feeding On Health And Productivity Of Ruminants, Alexander Sommer
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
As to the utilization of plant matter not suited for direct consumption by man, ruminants are of outstanding importance. This fact is related with the function of their specific stomach system. The paper discusses the microbial protein synthesis from NPN compounds. When 50 per cent of digestible crude protein required by fattening cattle were replaced, daily live weight gains of 997 g were reached; beef quality was not affected. Similarly favourable results were obtained with dairy cows when replacing by NPN compounds 50 to 100 per cent of extracted meals. Further on, the problem of crude-fibre digestion in connection with …

Websites Of Pharmacy Colleges: A Webometric Analysis, Yashwant S. Chaudhari Mr., Hemant S. Bhoye
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
In the digital era, institutional websites act as the primary gateway for disseminating academic information, services, and research output. Webometric analysis is a quantitative method used to evaluate the performance, visibility, and impact of websites based on web-based indicators such as hyperlinks, web pages, and parts of web pages. This study examines 17 pharmacy colleges in Nashik district, out of a total of 63 pharmacy colleges affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. The study examines domain extensions, number of web pages, internal and external links, and availability of library webpages. It also evaluates content features such as academic information, …
Concurrent Presentation And Evaluation Of Multi-Stream Media, Guillaume Vernon Bailey
Concurrent Presentation And Evaluation Of Multi-Stream Media, Guillaume Vernon Bailey
Defensive Publications Series
Current techniques for displaying vertical videos on landscape displays suffer from inefficient use of lateral screen space and rely on linear navigation that yields limited, dwell-time-based engagement data. The disclosed technology addresses this by replacing single-video presentation with a concurrent multi-stream interface, displaying multiple vertical videos side-by-side in a user interface on a screen of a television. The disclosed technology maintains one media content item in an active playback state while keeping peripheral media content items in a subdued state, such as dimmed or paused. Users navigate horizontally to shift the active focus or vertically to populate a completely new …

Assessing Integrated Pest Management Protocols For The Invasive Aquatic Weed Giant Salvinia (Salvinia Molesta), Samantha Lee Prinsloo
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Giant salvinia (Salvinia molesta) is free-floating aquatic fern that originates from South America. Through human introduction, giant salvinia has escaped its native range and is listed as an invasive species across multiple continents causing negative socio-economic and environmental impacts. This research aimed to expand our understanding of integrated pest management for controlling giant salvinia by combining chemical and biological control. The objectives were to assess the effects of rainfastness, carrier volume, and growth stage on herbicide efficacy, assess augmented biological control and optimal weevil release densities, assess weevil populations in the field, determine herbicide and surfactant toxicity to …

The bacterial and toxin methods of cancer treatment date back 130 years. This paradigm rests on nonspecific bacterial-toxin-generated immunotherapy. This high-risk oncology research is experiencing a renaissance of methods that are among the most effective yet. Glioblastomas and other resistant cancers are the modern touchpoint, because of remission history following sepsis. Spurred by recent research deaths, we discuss protocols IRBs should consider in live bacterial or synthetic immuno-stimulatory trials. Human systemic inflammatory response syndrome immunology is unique due to non-functioning SIGLEC-13 and 17, which control excessive Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR-4) signaling. This is not a technicality like human CD8+/CD4+ T …
Defining Contractile And Age-Specific Remodeling In Atrial Fibrillation, Hannah Cizauskas
Defining Contractile And Age-Specific Remodeling In Atrial Fibrillation, Hannah Cizauskas
Dissertations
Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is the most common cardiac arrythmia worldwide and is characterized by hallmarks including electrical, fibrotic, and hemodynamic remodeling, each of which can cause or be caused by alterations in the contractile apparatus. However, there is little known about contractile remodeling in AFib. While our current understanding of AFib lacks contractile remodeling, it also largely ignores the contribution of aging-induced remodeling. Aging is the strongest risk factor for AFib development, with most patients diagnosed with AFib over the age of 70, and aging also involves the three molecular hallmarks of AFib, which could explain increased susceptibility of AFib …

Transmembrane protein 63B gene (TMEM63B) encodes a mechanosensitive ion channel expressed in alveolar type II epithelial cells, where it mediates stretch-induced surfactant secretion. While heterozygous gain-of-function variants in TMEM63B have been associated with developmental and epileptic encephalopathy, no human disorder has previously been linked to bi-allelic loss-of-function variants. Here, we report five individuals from four unrelated families with childhood interstitial lung disease and bi-allelic predicted loss-of-function variants in TMEM63B. Affected individuals presented with early-onset respiratory distress, chronic hypoxemia, and diffuse parenchymal lung abnormalities on chest imaging. One individual died in infancy, two underwent bilateral lung transplantation, and two require oxygen …

BACKGROUND: Tobacco use is linked to multiple cancer types and a quarter of cancer deaths. Tobacco smoke contains numerous mutagenic chemicals such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), however, the mutagenicity of many chemicals in tobacco products remains underexplored. The tobacco-specific nitrosamines 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) and N'-nitrosonornicotine (NNN), both International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Group 1 carcinogens, form pre-mutagenic pyridyloxobutyl (POB) DNA adducts, yet little is known about the associated genomic mutation landscape(s) in humans. METHODS: We applied bulk and error-corrected next-generation sequencing to a battery of experimental systems comprising mammalian cell lines and animals exposed to NNK or NNN, …

The Role Of Social Determinants Of Health In Hydroxyurea Adherence Among Persons With Sickle Cell Disease: A Systematic Review, Doreen O. Ugwu, Lori L. Vick, Terika Williams, Aurela Nikaj, Seyi Omeh, Benjamin Becerra Dr., Tilicia Mayo-Gamble
Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association
Objective: Georgia has one of the highest prevalences of sickle cell disease (SCD). For Georgians living with SCD, inadequate medication adherence is associated with important clinical outcomes. One important area that is understudied in SCD is the impact of social determinants of health (SDoH) on medication adherence. A foundational understanding of SDoH is needed to introduce, inform and carry out programs and interventions designed to facilitate hydroxyurea adherence through the state of Georgia.
Method: We conducted a systematic literature review to synthesize the literature on SDoH addressed in studies to improve hydroxyurea adherence in persons with SCD. SDoH were based …

“His Huge Opponent Became Helpless”: Jiu-Jitsu In The American Press, 1900-1906, Jeff Shaw, Betsy O’Donovan
Journal of 20th Century Media History
Jiu-jitsu came to America at the turn of the 20th century, just as the Russo-Japanese war was focusing world interest on Japanese culture and martial training. An analysis of more than 2,400 articles and illustrations about the art from American newspapers during jiu-jitsu’s first years in the United States demonstrates the ways media framed jiu-jitsu in militaristic, political, racial, and gendered terms for an enthusiastic and curious public.

Caring In An Online Graduate Synchronous Learning Environment, Keith Higa
Caring In An Online Graduate Synchronous Learning Environment, Keith Higa
Journal of Educational Research and Practice
This self-study examines how caring practices are understood, enacted, and experienced within a synchronous online graduate teacher-education environment. Although online programs have expanded substantially, limited research addresses how relational approaches translate into mediated instructional spaces. Guided by Noddings’s ethics of care, this inquiry integrates reflective self-study with participant interviews to explore how technological structures, instructor practices, and real-time interactions shape students’ experiences of care. Findings reveal a multidimensional model consisting of (a) technological or structural care, characterized by course organization, predictability, and flexibility, and (b) humanistic care, expressed through relational presence, acknowledgment, responsiveness, and emergent dialogue in synchronous sessions. Together, …

Jainism And Catholicism – Dialoguing Spiritually, Bryan Lobo
Journal of Global Catholicism
The inter-spiritual dialogue between Jainism and Catholicism lends itself towards discovering similarities and dissimilarities between the two spiritualities. Recognizing this discovery, this paper, without claiming to be exhaustive as regards the spiritual themes, discusses the chosen themes to facilitate greater reflection and potential to re-discover elements that can help the growth of understanding and practicing the preferred spirituality.
The Dialogue Of Spiritual Experience In Buddhist-Christian Encounter, S Mark Heim
The Dialogue Of Spiritual Experience In Buddhist-Christian Encounter, S Mark Heim
Journal of Global Catholicism
Can one learn more about one’s own religion through the practices of another? My positive answer to this question is illustrated in this paper by reflection on aspects of the Buddhist practice of emptiness, in specific connection with Christian under-standing of our lives as creatures. The Buddhist meditative practices I have in mind have several things in common. They are introspective (activated in one person’s inner consciousness) and premised on the Buddhist understanding of emptiness (specifically “no self ” teachings). Buddhist introspective practice takes at least three broad forms. One of these is a meditative analytical awareness of the contents …

Sustainable Solutions For Food Security In Djibouti: A Renewable Energy Initiative, Michaëlle Arielle Kouakep Tsoh, Tsoh Ekassi Gilbert, Thierry Césaire Kenmogne, Brice Pinga Tcheugoué, Justin Kouamo
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
According to the World Bank Group, East African countries have fragile food systems and low agricultural production. Djibouti is among the most undernourished countries in Africa and is severely affected by freshwater scarcity. Households regularly face climatic shocks and high electricity costs. This literature review characterizes Djibouti’s food systems and food security situation, identifies and analyzes renewable energy technologies implemented to improve food security in the local context, and presents renewable technologies as sustainable solutions to food insecurity. The results show that rural households are more likely to be food insecure and that the Djiboutian government promotes sustainable energy solutions. …

Reconfiguring Civil Society Organization Governance Models For Social Inclusion And Sustainable Innovation: Practical Contributions Of The Tamuri Programme, Oussama El Hadfi, Mostafa Kharbachi
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
Today, civil society organizations (CSOs) play a decisive role in promoting social innovation and reducing inequalities, particularly in disadvantaged territories. Aware of their potential, several support and guidance schemes have emerged to strengthen their impact. The Tamuri programme, led by the Moroccan Center for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (MCISE) and co-funded by the European Union, is part of this dynamic through structured and personalized support for CSOs from diverse territorial contexts. Despite these efforts, many organizations still face difficulties related to governance, financial structuring and the sustainability of their actions. This article aims to analyze, through an empirical approach and …
Abdellatif Laâbi’S Hyperesthesia Between Reality And Imagination, Zineb Amermouch
Abdellatif Laâbi’S Hyperesthesia Between Reality And Imagination, Zineb Amermouch
SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism
Thanks to hyperesthesia, the “poet-detainee” manages to pierce the opacity of his cell, to tear the black band and to master an unhealthy environment that is completely foreign to him. In his poems written during the years of lead (1972- 1980), Abdellatif Laâbi immortalized eight years in prison. He is more than a political prisoner; he is a poet who cannot be intimidated, let alone deprived of imagination and writing. However, faced with the arbitrariness of the prison machination, he is reduced to a sequestered state. Thus, like any prisoner, he is affected by the hyperesthesia inherent in the condition …

First Photographic Record Of A Pale-Colored Wild Boar (Sus Scrofa) Consistent With Leucism In The Zagros Mountains, Iraqi Kurdistan, Bahez F. Ali, Hana A. Raza, Nabaz Horeni
AUIQ Complementary Biological System
Pigmentation anomalies in wild mammals are rare and poorly documented in wild boar (Sus scrofa) populations. Leucism, characterized by partial loss of melanin while retaining normal eye pigmentation, represents one of the least frequently reported coloration anomalies in the species. During a camera-trap survey in Bamo Mountain, Zagros Mountains of Iraqi Kurdistan, an unusually pale-colored wild boar consistent with leucism was recorded. The individual exhibited cream to light-blond pelage with retained darker pigmentation on the snout and distal limbs, while the eyes remained normally pigmented. Its morphology and behavior were otherwise consistent with those of a typical wild …

Empirical Antibiotic Use In Children With Acute Fever: Clinical Evidence And Sociocultural Perspectives Literature Review, Hussein Moustafa Shehata, Ranya Khairy Ammar
Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases
Objective: Empirical antibiotic therapy in children with acute fever remains a controversial clinical issue. Fever is one of the most common presenting symptoms in pediatric care, yet most febrile episodes are self-limiting and attributable to viral infections. To evaluate the clinical evidence on empirical antibiotic therapy in febrile children, assess clinical outcomes, synthesize international guideline recommendations, and analyze the impact of sociocultural factors on prescribing practices. Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Google Scholar (January 2014 – March 2025), supplemented by guideline databases from the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Society for Paediatric Infectious …
Shadows Of Salem: Recovered Memories In The Sandusky Case, Stewart Justman
Shadows Of Salem: Recovered Memories In The Sandusky Case, Stewart Justman
Global Humanities and Religions Faculty Publications
In 2012 the former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of the sexual abuse of children. However, none of his accusers accused him of anything until Victim 1, Aaron Fisher, entered treatment with a psychologist who diagnosed him at first sight as a victim of sexual abuse. The psychologist denied that he engaged in recovered-memory therapy. The record suggests otherwise. If a competent defense had shown at trial that the psychologist practiced on Victim 1 the same mode of therapy he rejected out of hand, the case against Sandusky might have collapsed, much as the …

Cultivating Narratives: A Critical Discourse Analysis Of Higher Education Student-Led Farms And Gardens, Maximilan Sherard, Marc T. Sager
Publications
Despite extensive research on community agriculture, little attention has been paid to student-led farms or gardens (SFGs) in higher education contexts. SFGs represent a unique site for community agriculture due to their diverse stakeholders, academic affiliations, and the institutional policies they navigate. This study examines online promotional materials from 42 SFGs located on land-grant higher education campuses across the United States. Using critical discourse analysis, we (1) map these organizations’ practices and (2) identify competing discourses about community and agriculture within their promotional narratives. We identify and explain four core practices (membership, growing, distribution, and purpose) and connect these practices …
