Integrated Incubators: A Novel Framework For Technology-Based Creative Arts Education, Brad Phelps Nisbet Jan 2026

Integrated Incubators: A Novel Framework For Technology-Based Creative Arts Education, Brad Phelps Nisbet

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

This thesis investigates the development and impact of an educational framework designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry within the media and entertainment sector. It addresses the prevalent "skills mismatch" where graduates often lack the specific technical competencies, foundational knowledge, practical experience, or soft skills required for entry-level positions in a rapidly evolving landscape influenced by advancements like virtual production, real-time VFX, immersive media, and Al. Grounded in both theoretical and practical insights, the framework aims to foster student creativity, technical proficiency, industry readiness, transferable skills, and adaptability, prioritising a transformative, student-centric learning experience.

The research employed a …

Neuro-Advocacy: Harmonizing Persuasion With The Operation Of The Brain, Gary Gildin Jan 2026

Neuro-Advocacy: Harmonizing Persuasion With The Operation Of The Brain, Gary Gildin

Faculty Scholarship

The most significant contemporary advances in effective courtroom advocacy will emerge from what on the surface is an unlikely source: neuroscience. Revolutionary advances in technology for the first time allow us to see how the human brain makes decisions. The findings are wholly inconsistent with how the trial process presupposes the finder of fact will perceive and use information delivered by lawyers and witnesses. Consequently, lawyers seeking to persuade jurors (and judges) must reframe their advocacy to align with what we have learned about how the minds of these decision-makers will receive testimony and argument and use these inputs to …

The Serotonin 1b Receptor In Psilocybin’S Therapeutic-Like Mechanisms: From Behavior To Network Reorganization, Sixtine Fleury Jan 2026

The Serotonin 1b Receptor In Psilocybin’S Therapeutic-Like Mechanisms: From Behavior To Network Reorganization, Sixtine Fleury

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

Mood disorders represent a substantial and growing global health crisis, with ~10 million adults in the US meeting criteria for a major depressive disorder (MDD). Current first-line treatments such as SSRIs require long-term daily administration and fail a significant proportion of patients, driving renewed interest in rapid-acting alternatives. Psilocybin, a serotonergic psychedelic, shows growing clinical evidence of efficacy in treating depressive and anxiety disorders, often producing therapeutic effects persisting weeks to months following a single dose. Yet, the neural mechanisms underlying these enduring effects remain poorly understood and have been largely attributed to the serotonin 2A receptor (5-HT2AR) based on …

Manuscript Collection

This collection consists of bound volumes, family Bibles, lecture and financial notebooks, diaries, scrapbooks, photographs, magazines, publications, and memorabilia collected or owned by members of the White family and related families. The White family, descendants of George Pendleton and Ann Hutchinson White, was among the founding families of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and played a significant role in the development and history of the community. The family’s historical presence in Rock Hill is also reflected in the White Home, one of the early homes constructed in the city and now a local historic attraction, and White Street in downtown Rock …

Detection And Quantification Of Spreading Depolarization In Drosophila Melanogaster Using High-Throughput, Wide-Field Brain Imaging, Wolfgang Stein, Allison L. Harris Jan 2026

Detection And Quantification Of Spreading Depolarization In Drosophila Melanogaster Using High-Throughput, Wide-Field Brain Imaging, Wolfgang Stein, Allison L. Harris

Faculty publications – Physics

Spreading depolarization (SD) is a ubiquitous neural phenomenon implicated in mammalian neurological disorders including cerebral ischemia, brain death, stroke, brain injury, and migraine, as well as in insect chill coma. During SD, a breakdown of ion homeostasis and a slowly spreading wave of neural depolarization leads to processing deficits, such as sensory disturbances and paralysis. Our protocols introduce high-throughput techniques using wide-field fluorescence brain imaging in Drosophila melanogaster larvae and adults to detect and quantify the spatial and temporal dynamics of SD and its initiation points. Two SD initiation techniques, rapid cooling and pharmacological manipulation, are detailed. The larval protocols …

Intelligent Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (Idxa) And Small Animal Scanning As A Useful Tool To Measure Appendicular Bird Bone Mineral Density, Frank J. Dirrigl Jr., Samuel R. Buchanan Jan 2026

Intelligent Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (Idxa) And Small Animal Scanning As A Useful Tool To Measure Appendicular Bird Bone Mineral Density, Frank J. Dirrigl Jr., Samuel R. Buchanan

School of Integrative Biological & Chemical Sciences Faculty Publications

Accurately assessing the bone mineralization status of birds is crucial for poultry production and wild bird studies. We investigated the use of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) using Small Animal Measurement software to measure bone mineral content (BMC) and areal bone mineral density (aBMD) in excised radii of the willow ptarmigan (Lagopus lagopus) as a bird model. Our exploratory tests involved 117 scans to evaluate scanning parameters, scanning board types, bone stabilization, scan mode and size, and region of interest placement. Results indicated that mean BMC or aBMD were each significantly different when scanned on a forearm positioner board …

A Note On The Novel Passive Sampling In Environmental Dna (Edna) Collection Technique To Detect Yellow Mud Turtle (Kinosternon Flavescens): Field And Laboratory Approaches In Turtle Edna, Sakib Tahmid Rishan, Richard J. Kline, Md. Saydur Rahman Jan 2026

A Note On The Novel Passive Sampling In Environmental Dna (Edna) Collection Technique To Detect Yellow Mud Turtle (Kinosternon Flavescens): Field And Laboratory Approaches In Turtle Edna, Sakib Tahmid Rishan, Richard J. Kline, Md. Saydur Rahman

School of Integrative Biological & Chemical Sciences Faculty Publications

Environmental DNA (eDNA) is a powerful and sensitive method for monitoring aquatic and terrestrial organisms, offering insights into their distribution. Usually, eDNA is collected using a filter membrane through water filtration. However, the passive eDNA method can simplify sampling and broaden its scope, offering new insights for ecological surveillance. This study examined the efficacy of six different membrane filters in detecting the yellow mud turtle (Kinosternon flavescens) through a novel passive eDNA method. After being immersed in water for 12 h, only the mixed cellulose ester (MCE) membrane filter consistently demonstrated specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification using …

Standard Textualism, James A. Macleod Jan 2026

Standard Textualism, James A. Macleod

Articles

For as long as legal scholars have been writing about the rules-versus-standards distinction, textualism has been understood to produce characteristically rule-like law. This Article argues for the opposite view. Far from generating the “law of rules” that Scalia famously envisioned, the rule of modern textualism produces a law of standards—much more so than anybody, proponent of textualism or critic, appears to have recognized.

Two aspects of today’s textualism produce this result. The first is its emphasis on ordinary language and communication. Modern textualism typically produces standards because ordinary language and communication are typically standard-like. The second is modern textualism’s drive …
