Betting On Inclusion? The Ethical Dilemma Of Funding An Inclusive Playground, Jason W. Lee, John J. Miller Dr., Tasha Hyder

The COSMA Journal

This teaching case study provides an insightful exploration into multifaceted aspects of sport and recreation management. It narrates a fictionalized account enriched with real-life details, focusing on Rhonda Harper, a respected parks and recreation professional leading an initiative to fund an inclusive playground. While this endeavor has garnered support from local citizens, civic leaders, businesses, and children's advocates, raising the necessary $200,000 has proven to be challenging. A profound dilemma emerges when considering a potential $40,000 donation from a local gaming resort. Although this contribution could secure the needed funding for this initiative, it presents intricacies associated with the ethical …

Sin, Grace, And Conversion In C. S. Lewis’S The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, Christopher Varga Jan 2026

Sin, Grace, And Conversion In C. S. Lewis’S The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, Christopher Varga

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

Was C. S. Lewis Pelagian? While his apologetic works make skillful use of the concept of free will, some worry that he takes the emphasis on free will too far, allowing no room for God's gracious intervention in works such as The Great Divorce and The Problem of Pain. This essay seeks to challenge a Pelagian characterization of Lewis. It argues that there is in Lewis’s theology a dialectic in which the burden for damnation rests solely with the sinner’s own free choice, and yet where God is solely to praise for actively rescuing the saved, resembling a single …

Discovering C. S. Lewis’S Argument From Awe Against Philosophical Naturalism, Piotr Bylica Jan 2026

Discovering C. S. Lewis’S Argument From Awe Against Philosophical Naturalism, Piotr Bylica

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

Although Clive Staples Lewis’s (1898–1963) works on the intersection of philosophy and religion were aimed at a broader readership and are indeed well-known among the general public, they are also valued among professional philosophers and theologians alike, especially those focusing on the relations between theism, atheism, and naturalism. His three most popular arguments against naturalism are the Argument from Reason, the Moral Argument, and the Argument from Desire. In that context, the present article aims to show that Lewis actually made use of a fourth type of argument against philosophical naturalism that has so far escaped identification. Since this argument …

Divergent Paths: The Spiritual Friendship Of C. S. Lewis And Dom Bede Griffiths, Martha Abele Mac Iver Jan 2026

Divergent Paths: The Spiritual Friendship Of C. S. Lewis And Dom Bede Griffiths, Martha Abele Mac Iver

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

This essay argues that despite their parallel conversion journeys at Oxford and their lifelong friendship, C. S. Lewis and Dom Bede Griffiths ultimately came to different understandings about the relationship between humans and God and what it means to commune with God in what we commonly call prayer. Despite the frequent mention of prayer in their letters, their views of the way in which God was present within them and what communion with God entailed diverged in significant ways as Griffiths sought to integrate Christian and Hindu conceptions of God. Their own spiritual friendship may have survived this rift, but …

“Frankenstein’S Nursery Rhymes” And Other Unpublished Poems By Joy Davidman, Don W. King Jan 2026

“Frankenstein’S Nursery Rhymes” And Other Unpublished Poems By Joy Davidman, Don W. King

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

In 2015 I edited and published A Naked Tree: Joy Davidman’s Love Sonnets to C. S. Lewis and Other Poems. I avoided referring to this volume as the collected poems of Davidman since I decided to withhold publication of twenty-nine poems, primarily because I wanted the attention of readers to focus upon Davidman’s forty-five sonnets to Lewis as well as the poems comprising Letter to a Comrade, the only collection of her verse published during her lifetime. However, I now think it is time to bring these unpublished poems to print. With a few exceptions, I have arranged the poems …

From Automation To Imagination: Empowering Student Creativity In The Digital Age, Annie Yon

New Jersey English Journal

In today’s digital age, literacy extends beyond traditional reading and writing to encompass collaboration, multimodal communication, and the ability to create meaning through diverse media. As AI becomes more integrated into education, we must reconsider its impact on student thinking, work ethic, and writing, while redefining meaningful writing and assessments. Rather than relying on traditional five-paragraph essays, projects like literary magazines that blend writing with multimodal components showcase how educators can prioritize creativity, expression, and personal reflection. This approach ensures that even in the age of AI, students continue to create and engage in ways that are authentically their own.

Human Sciences And The Truth Of Literature: Issues Of Theory And Method, Mohammed Fanane Jan 2026

Human Sciences And The Truth Of Literature: Issues Of Theory And Method, Mohammed Fanane

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

The article examines the question of the nature of literature within the broader field of the humanities, showing how literary discourse—since Plato—has remained an epistemically ambiguous domain because of its imaginative power and its capacity to unsettle rational notions of truth. From this standpoint, the text traces the epistemological shifts that have shaped the history of literary theory, from Aristotle’s concept of mimesis to contemporary approaches that expose the instability of fixed meaning and the openness of the text to multiplicity and semantic fragmentation. The article also addresses the issue of interpretation, recalling the emblematic confrontation between old and new …

What Future For The Human And Social Sciences?, Mariem Mesbahi Jan 2026

What Future For The Human And Social Sciences?, Mariem Mesbahi

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

Devalued or marginalized by some minds, the humanities and social sciences (HSS) nevertheless remain for others, more lucid ones, a science whose rigor is of a different order and rather qualify them as "noble" and no longer as "soft." Thus, through their fields of investigation, when one examines their domains, their functions and their methods, their scientific and cognitive legitimacy is recognized in the face of attempts to exclude them from the scientific field. As for their perspectives, the idea, still in vogue, that these sciences aspire to understand the mind, reasoning, emotions and social interactions is being surpassed given …

How Do Women Maintain Access To Land In The Context Of Multiple Land Users In Contemporary Rural Tanzania?, Rose George Mbezi, Rosemarie Mwaipopo Jan 2026

How Do Women Maintain Access To Land In The Context Of Multiple Land Users In Contemporary Rural Tanzania?, Rose George Mbezi, Rosemarie Mwaipopo

Tanzania Journal of Sociology

Rural Tanzania is increasingly experiencing a growing heterogeneity of land users, driven by demographic shifts, socio-economic changes, and policy transformations, all of which influence women's ability to maintain secure access to land. Customary practices such as marriage, inheritance, and communal property access are now being practiced alongside statutory frameworks, including land policies and the transformation of communal land into private property, often influenced by economic investments and land acquisitions. Although legislative frameworks have been established to facilitate land access for both men and women, they remain insufficient, as women continue to face challenges in sustaining access to land amidst the …

The Case For A Moratorium On Deep-Sea Mining: The International Seabed Authority, Indigenous Rights, And Marine Ecosystems In The Eastern Pacific, Afrah A. Qoqandi Jan 2026

The Case For A Moratorium On Deep-Sea Mining: The International Seabed Authority, Indigenous Rights, And Marine Ecosystems In The Eastern Pacific, Afrah A. Qoqandi

UC Law Environmental Journal

The rising interest in deep-sea commercial exploitation has sparked a powerful debate over the environmental and social justice implications of mining the ocean’s depths for valuable minerals. Deep-sea mining targets polymetallic nodules found on the seabed, containing metals critical for green technologies like electric vehicles and solar cells. The Clarion-Clipperton Zone (“CCZ”) in the eastern Pacific is estimated to hold more nickel, manganese, and cobalt than all terrestrial resources combined. As one of the last largely untouched ecosystems, deep-sea mining in the CCZ raises significant concerns about the irreversible harm to its biodiversity and the disruption to Indigenous communities reliant …

Brain Tumor Segmentation Based On Convolutional Neural Network And Integration Of Deep And Shallow Features, Rula Sami Aleesa Jan 2026

Brain Tumor Segmentation Based On Convolutional Neural Network And Integration Of Deep And Shallow Features, Rula Sami Aleesa

Baghdad Science Journal

Segmentation of Brain tumors refers to one of the most challenging problems in analyzing a medical image. To establish accurate brain tumor region delineation, brain tumor segmentation is used. Feature extraction refers to one of the basic steps in the processing of an image that aids classification. Various features’ kinds are extracted from MRI images. The traditional classifiers of Machine learning need hand-crafted features that are time-consuming and susceptible to errors made by humans. Against this, Deep learning is too powerful in terms of feature extraction and has already been extensively applied for the aims of classification. The presented technique …

Bhc Hosts Two Events To Promote Brain Health Across The Community, University Of Dayton. School Of Education And Health Sciences

School of Education and Health Sciences Blog Archive

At its most basic, a collective is a group of individuals who work together toward a common goal. The term usuallyexplains a group that doesn’t have a strict hierarchy (more on that later), but that makes decisions, you guessed it,collectively. So, when the Brain Health Collective (BHC) gets together, that’s exactly what they do. They bring in experts (those with lived experience, professionals, families, and friends of individuals who have experienced brain injuries) who all bring their wisdom, experience, and networks to better serve our community.
