Pumpkin Variety Demonstration In West Michigan, 2025, Benjamin P. Werling, Justin Adams
Midwest Vegetable Trial Reports
Pumpkin variety demonstrations were conducted in 2025 at the West Central Michigan Research and Extension Center in Hart, MI, to compare yield, size class, and irrigation response among 21 pumpkin varieties representing jack-o’-lantern, large carving, and decorative cultivars. Demonstration plots were established on sandy soil under standard commercial fertility, pest management, and weed control practices. To assess irrigation effects under dry conditions, approximately 60% of each plot received supplemental sprinkler irrigation.
Jack-o’-lantern varieties varied in size distribution, with some producing a mix of 60, 45, and 30–35 count fruit with few larger-sized pumpkins. Others skewed toward larger bin count classes. …

Science education constitutes the essential foundation and critical underpinning for achieving the national strategy of integrated development across education, technology, and talent. The participation of researchers from national scientific research institutions in science education is of significant and far-reaching strategic importance for improving the overall scientific literacy of the Chinese public and cultivating top-tier innovative talent. This study focuses on researchers within the research institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Employing a questionnaire-based survey, we investigate and analyze the current status and challenges of researchers’ engagement in science education from the perspective of the theory of planned behavior (TPB). …

(Post-)Colonial Shakespeares: Macbeth In South Africa, Mahmoud T. Kholeif
Theses and Dissertations
The history of Shakespeare in South Africa is that of an often contested cultural battleground, with meanings fought over across a colonial boundary. In Chapter One, we examine some of the many cultural intersections between Shakespeare and South African rewriters. In the process, we can see how Shakespeare came to the region as a tool for colonial domination, but would eventually be used to rebuke the colonial narrative that was conservatively ascribed to him. He was used to enforce racial and political hierarchies, particularly through missionary education and institutions like the “Kaffir Institution.” The anxieties surrounding the ‘overproduction’ of Western-educated …
