Mechanisms Underlying Sodium Enrichment In Coals In The Dananhu Mining Area, Turpan-Hami Basin, Qi Zhenghui, Sun Fanxing, Wang Wenlong, Huang Chunhui, Liang Kaihua, Huang Yangyang, Shao Longyi
Coal Geology & Exploration
Background The Dananhu mining area boasts abundant coal resources, serving as a significant coal-fired power generation base in Xinjiang, China. However, the high sodium (Na) content in coals within the mining area tends to cause fouling and slagging during coal combustion, severely affecting the clean and efficient utilization of coal resources in the area. Methods and Results epresentative samples collected from the major mineable coal seams were subjected to proximate and ash-composition analyses. The analytical results show that the coal samples had low ash and sulfur contents and high volatile content. SiO2 predominated in the ash components, followed by …

Water Quality Characteristics And Reutilization Of Goaf Water From Shallow Coal Seams Within The Datong Mining Area, Shanxi Province, China, Li Jun, Gui Herong, Ding Pengfei, Chen Yongqing, Wan Heyong, Li Weiqi, Huang Dawei, Peng Weihua, Hu Yang, Guo Yan
Coal Geology & Exploration
Objective The Datong mining area in Shanxi Province of China faces serious threats from goaf water hazards, while the goaf water drainage is constrained by environmental protection policies. Therefore, the reutilization of goaf water serves as an effective approach to eliminating mine water hazards, protecting water environments, and mitigating water scarcity in the mining area. Methods This study investigated goaf water from shallow coal seams in the Datong mining area. Based on water quality assessment theories and a range of hydrogeochemical indices, including saturation index (SI), chloro-alkaline index (CAI), and sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), this study conducted a joint determination …

Application Of Seismic-While-Tunnelling Detection In The Identification Of Densely Distributed Sub-Seismic Faults, Li Haodang, Li Kang, Chen Jian, Song Xiaozhong, Jin Dan, Wang Baoli
Coal Geology & Exploration
Objective and Method Densely distributed sub-seismic faults have emerged as a major hidden disaster-causing geological factor, heavily influencing both the production efficiency and operational safety of coal mines. To achieve precise advance detection of underground sub-seismic faults in coal mines, this study designed a geological model. Using seismic-while-tunneling (SWT) advance detection technology for roadways of coal mines, this study investigated the geological situation of sub-seismic faults through forward modeling. Furthermore, it explored the seismic image characteristics of these faults obtained using the SWT observation system under varying survey line lengths and geophone spacing values. Results and Conclusions The forward modeling …

Systemic Sclerosis-Associated Interstitial Lung Disease: Improved Understanding And Advances In Management, Amit Syal, Chris T. Derk
Student Papers, Posters & Projects
Interstitial lung disease (ILD), a common manifestation of systemic sclerosis (SSc), has the highest organ-specific morbidity and mortality, particularly in patients with diffuse cutaneous SSc (dcSSc). Recent advances in diagnostics-including artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) and biomarkers such as Krebs van den Lungen (KL)-6-have enabled earlier detection and monitoring of disease progression. Therapeutically, the approval of antifibrotics like nintedanib (NINT) and immunomodulators such as tocilizumab (Toci) has significantly expanded treatment options. Updated international guidelines from the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), American Thoracic Society (ATS), and European league against Rheumatism (EULAR) now …

Braingenebot: A Gpt-Engineered, User-Driven Genetic Data Exploration With Polygenic Risk Scores Ranking In Alzheimer’S Disease, Guan Ou, Zhongming Zhao
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Background
Polygenic risk scores (PGSs) aggregate the effects of multiple genetic variants to attribute to disease susceptibility, and have been applied to numerous complex diseases including Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, as omics and phenotypic data grow exponentially, reconciling findings across studies with differing ancestral backgrounds, study designs, and statistical methodologies remains a pressing issue. Efficiently extracting biologically relevant insights from this expanding body of data is equally challenging, especially for diseases driven by complex interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors.
Method
To address these challenges, we introduce BrainGeneBot, an AI‐driven chatbot framework that automates genetic data analysis and bridges …

Educational Play Equipment (APE) is one of the facilities provided by Early Childhood Education (PAUD) institutions to support the learning process through play. This study aims to assess the compliance of APE and the arrangement of outdoor play areas with the 2018 Guidelines for Managing PAUD Classroom Space, SNI 9169:2023, the Ministry of Education and Culture’s 2021 Safe APE Guidelines for Early Childhood, and Ministerial Regulation No. 3 of 2022. The study employs a qualitative design with a descriptive approach through facility observations, interviews with teaching staff, and a review of school documents. The data analysis process includes data reduction, …

Industrial environments often generate high noise levels due to the continuous operation of machinery and production equipment. Persistent exposure to workplace noise exceeding the Threshold Limit Value (TLV) can lead to noise-induced hearing loss. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 430 million people worldwide require rehabilitation for hearing impairment, with 109.4 million of these cases occurring in Southeast and Central Asia. As a critical component of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management, noise control is often implemented using Hearing Protection Devices (HPDs). This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an earplug-earmuff combination, developed as Madcom Noise Protection, …

This article aims to formulate the ethics of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in legal education. Legal education held by the Faculty of Law is a center for the development of excellence in legal science in order to generate competent graduates. The ability to provide a legal opinion on a legal issue is a competency that every law graduate must have. In this era, law students can easily command AI to construct legal opinion without going through the legal research process. The implication for Faculty of Law is that they fail to prepare law graduates who are able to produce legal …

General Human Environmental Sciences Faculty Publications and Presentations
Background: Previous research has shown that video gaming experience is associated with changes in cognitive and perceptual functions as well as neural structure and function. However, how the different types of video games differentially influence cognitive function and neuroplasticity remains unclear. Methods: In this 30-week longitudinal study, participants were randomly assigned to an action video game group or a strategy card game group. Behavioral assessments and resting-state electroencephalography (EEG) recordings were administered at six time points to evaluate changes in attention, working memory, executive function, and their neural correlates. Results: Both groups showed significant improvements in multiple cognitive tasks, but …
