Odontogenic sinusitis is a type of sinusitis caused by apical lesions of teeth near the maxillary sinus floor. Its clinical symptoms are highly like other types of sinusitis, often leading to misdiagnosis as general sinusitis by dentists in the early stages. This misdiagnosis delays treatment and may be accompanied by toothache. Therefore, using artificial intelligence to assist dentists in accurately diagnosing odontogenic sinusitis is crucial. This study introduces an innovative odontogenic sinusitis image processing technique, which is fused with common contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization, Min-Max normalization, and the RGB mapping method. Moreover, this study combined various deep learning models …

In dental diagnosis, evaluating the severity of periodontal disease by analyzing the radiographic defect angle of the intrabony defect is essential for effective treatment planning. However, dentists often rely on clinical examinations and manual analysis, which can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. Due to the high recurrence rate of periodontal disease after treatment, accurately evaluating the radiographic defect angle of the intrabony defect is vital for implementing targeted interventions, which can improve treatment outcomes and reduce recurrence. This study aims to streamline clinical practices and enhance patient care in managing periodontal disease by determining its severity based on the analysis of …

Epilepsy, as a common brain disease, causes great pain and stress to patients around the world. At present, the main treatment methods are drug, surgical, and electrical stimulation therapies. Electrical stimulation has recently emerged as an alternative treatment for reducing symptomatic seizures. This study proposes a novel closed-loop epilepsy detection system and stimulation control chip. A time-domain detection algorithm based on amplitude, slope, line length, and signal energy characteristics is introduced. A new threshold calculation method is proposed; that is, the threshold is updated by means of the mean and standard deviation of four consecutive eigenvalues through parameter combination. Once …

Improving The Accuracy Of Neighborhood Median Pixel Method (Nmpm) In Classifying Landsat-8 Oli Images By Optimizing The Scoring System’S Point Values, Abraham T. Magpantay, Proceso L. Fernandez Jr Jan 2025

Improving The Accuracy Of Neighborhood Median Pixel Method (Nmpm) In Classifying Landsat-8 Oli Images By Optimizing The Scoring System’S Point Values, Abraham T. Magpantay, Proceso L. Fernandez Jr

Department of Information Systems & Computer Science Faculty Publications

The Neighborhood Median Pixel Method has previously been introduced as an image processing technique in remote sensing, developed to classify Landsat-8 OLI satellite image pixels into categories of vegetation, water, and built-up areas. This method relies on a lookup table based on the median pixel values within a pixel’s neighborhood and a scoring system that assigns point values for classification. While a 9x9 neighborhood size was originally proposed, a succeeding study suggested a 13x13 neighborhood for better classification accuracy. This study focuses on refining the scoring system used in the Neighborhood Median Pixel Method, particularly the original set of arbitrary …

Electronic Health Records In Non-Hospital Settings Of Developing Economies: A Systematic Review On Enablers And Barriers, Bejie Rodriguez, Joenelyn Kaye Demoral, Jan Jacob Carpio, Alan Napoleon Gultia, Gloria Shiela Coyoca, Cecilio Garciano, Lemuel Clark Velasco

Institute of Philippine Culture (IPC)

In recent years, rapid advancements in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) have greatly transformed the healthcare landscape by streamlining health data management and providing decision-makers with secure and convenient access to health records. In developing economies, limited resources hinder healthcare access. Implementing EHRs in non-hospital settings is essential for enhancing healthcare quality and accessibility. While existing literature supports EHR use, further research is needed to pinpoint specific barriers and enablers. Using PRISMA guidelines, 18 relevant articles were systematically analyzed with the Human, Organization, and Technology Fit (HOT-fit) framework to examine these factors in non-hospital settings within developing economies. This study …

Fabrication And Characterization Of Chalcogenide And Oxide Thin Films, Shuhang Pan

Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Dissertations

This dissertation explores the fabrication, structural characterization, and quantum transport properties of chalcogenide and oxide thin films. High-quality SnTe films were synthesized via molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), demonstrating tunable topological surface states through nanoscale patterning. Magnetoconductivity measurements revealed weak antilocalization (WAL) effects across continuous and patterned films, with coherence lengths governed by boundary scattering in hole-patterned geometries. Advanced focused ion beam (FIB) protocols enabled atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of monolayer ZrO2 on silicon, defect distribution in off-stoichiometric CaWO4 films and orientation analysis in YVO4 thin films. Josephson junctions fabricated on superconducting Nd1−xEuxNiO2 thin films exhibited …

Resuscitating E-Commerce’S Transnational Promise With Out-Of-Court Processes, Oladeji M. Tiamiyu

University of Memphis Law Review

E-commerce is increasingly taking a central role in conducting commercial transactions. This burgeoning industry has shaped how, when, and even why consumers transact. While catalyzed by the pandemic, increased use of e-commerce platforms is a multi-decade historical trend. Yet regulators throughout much of the world have been slow in how they regulate these platforms. In recognition of the growing importance of digital transactions, regulators have increasingly explored what should be the appropriate amount of oversight for platforms that have relied on substantial self-regulation. Regulation has increased the difficulty for private and public enforcement of antitrust laws, compromising a variety of …

Intensive Longitudinal Models, Robert E. Ployhart, Paul D. Bliese, Sam D. Strizver

Faculty Publications

Intensive longitudinal models (ILMs) allow researchers to analyze nested data collected through frequent measurements—typically 20 or more repeated occasions—over densely spaced durations. Rather than being a single statistical approach, ILMs encompass various models unified by their capability to handle densely collected longitudinal data. We briefly summarize the nature of intensive longitudinal designs and why such designs require the use of ILMs. We then provide a classification typology to help readers understand the features of an ILM they should adopt. This classification typology provides the structure for a narrative review of existing ILM research. We conclude with specific recommendations for using …
