Sticker Or No Sticker, That Is The Question: A Test Of Two Competing Hypotheses, Dongdong Yang, Yi Luo, Marylou Naumoff
Sticker Or No Sticker, That Is The Question: A Test Of Two Competing Hypotheses, Dongdong Yang, Yi Luo, Marylou Naumoff
College of Communication and Media Scholarship and Creative Works
Stickers, as an important nonverbal communication affordance on social media, have been understudied in Western contexts. This study employed an online survey (N = 300) to test two competing hypotheses—the social compensation and withdrawal hypotheses—to examine how personality traits influenced sticker use for emotional expression and self-presentation among U.S. college students. Results demonstrated that when communicating with a new friend on their mobile messenger, participants used stickers more frequently for self-presentation than emotional expression. Moreover, loneliness was positively related to neuroticism and negatively related to agreeableness and extraversion. Neuroticism was negatively related to sticker use for both emotional expression and …

Trauma Beyond Time: Temporal Constructs In Holocaust Testimonies, Sarah Seiselmyer-Snyder
Trauma Beyond Time: Temporal Constructs In Holocaust Testimonies, Sarah Seiselmyer-Snyder
Purdue University Press Books
Trauma Beyond Time: Temporal Constructs in Holocaust Testimonies challenges our understanding of what it means to be a Holocaust survivor, arguing that the term “post-Holocaust” fundamentally misrepresents survivors’ experiences. Through careful analysis of Holocaust literature and testimony, this book reveals how trauma persists across generations, defying conventional historical timelines. For those who perished, there can be no “after” to the Holocaust—their stories were violently ended. Yet for survivors, the Holocaust didn’t simply conclude in 1945. Their experiences demonstrate how trauma continues to shape lives decades later, making “post-Holocaust” a misleading concept that fails to capture their ongoing reality. Using the …

Forecast: A Helmet Visor Hud, Qigao Zhong
Theses
High-performance track-day driving requires drivers to maintain situational awareness while operating vehicles at high speeds. During these conditions, drivers must continuously monitor track signals, surrounding vehicles, and changing hazards while maintaining precise vehicle control. Missed or delayed recognition of critical information can increase safety risks and disrupt traffic flow on the racetrack. This thesis explores the design of a helmet-mounted visor head-up display (HUD) intended to support experienced track-day drivers by selectively presenting critical information in real time. The system prioritizes contextually relevant alerts and minimizes visual distraction through a simplified visual hierarchy. Hazards are categorized by severity and communicated …

Responding To The Urban Canvas: Murals, Preservation, And Placemaking In Meridian, Ms, Katy Kemalyan
Responding To The Urban Canvas: Murals, Preservation, And Placemaking In Meridian, Ms, Katy Kemalyan
Theses and Dissertations
Public murals that depict elements of local culture and history are a creative placemaking tool increasingly used by preservationists invested in the revitalization of their historic districts. As this trend rises, it becomes necessary for preservationists to ask what should be painted, restored, or left alone? Research on public murals neglects Southern mid-sized towns, considerations of existing murals, and historic architecture used as substrates. Rectifying this omission and employing geographic surveys and stakeholder interviews, this study seeks to expand which genres of murals are considered for their creative placemaking value. Normally distinguished primarily by source in literature, community murals, ghost …

This study investigates the needs and challenges of information integration and task tracking in interdisciplinary teams through qualitative interviews and a card-sorting method with seven types of healthcare professionals— physician, nurse, medical social worker, clinical psychologist, dietitian, physical therapist, and dentist. The findings highlight issues such as insufficient information integration, fragmented goal-setting and …
Place Branding And The Dynamics Of Co-Creation: An Activity Theory Study Of A Creative Marketplace In Chengdu, Mengge Huo, Angus Donald Campbell, Mairi Gunn, Michael Davis
Place Branding And The Dynamics Of Co-Creation: An Activity Theory Study Of A Creative Marketplace In Chengdu, Mengge Huo, Angus Donald Campbell, Mairi Gunn, Michael Davis
IASDR Conference Series
This paper introduces the concepts of creative marketplaces, place branding, and co-creation. Focusing on Jiaozi Market in Chengdu, China, the authors use third-generation Activity Theory (Engeström, 2001) and Digital Ethnography (Pink et al., 2016), to map the roles of market organisers, vendors, and consumers. This reveals contradictions between place branding motives and outcomes across the activity system - tools, rules, community and division of labour - within the creative marketplace. The findings suggest that although creative marketplaces promote a perception of curated place branding, stakeholder participation often remains symbolic, resulting in disjointed and in authentic experiences for all involved.

In recent years, urban-rural interaction and rural revitalization have received increasing attention, particularly in the context of Innovative Agricultural Design (IAD).However, existing IAD cases differ significantly in scale, concept, and development models, making it difficult to formulate design strategies that are adaptive and targeted to different types of practices. To address this issue, this study systematically classifies 83 domestic and international IAD cases and establishes a typo logical framework to reveal their distinct characteristics. Based on a comprehensive indicator system encompassing technological, social, and business innovation dimensions, Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) and hierarchical clustering are applied to identify four IAD …
Triadic Co-Creation Model: Redefining Child Participation In Urban Planning In The Majority World, Himani Kanojia, Saurabh Tewari
Triadic Co-Creation Model: Redefining Child Participation In Urban Planning In The Majority World, Himani Kanojia, Saurabh Tewari
IASDR Conference Series
In the Majority World, traditional approaches to urban planning are being challenged by emerging policy initiatives that recognise children as legitimate participants equal to adults in shaping their urban environments. However, the participation often remains tokenistic, due to a slow-evolving social and political mindset. Another wicked problem in the participatory planning process with children in the Majority World is that their primary focus is on what they produce and not on how they wish to produce. This paper shifts the lens. Drawing on the “Designing Delhi City Together” workshop conducted with 120 children from a publicly funded Central School in …
