Bedtime Or Game Time: The Impact Of Chronotype Matching On Spectators Moods, Callie Hart
Bedtime Or Game Time: The Impact Of Chronotype Matching On Spectators Moods, Callie Hart
Honors College Theses
Chronotypes have been shown to affect various aspects of life including health and day to day activities such as eating and exercising (Pacheco & Rehman, 2022). Research also indicates that chronotypes can have a direct impact on a person’s mood (Kim et al., 2021). The purpose of the current study was to examine the relationship between peoples’ chronotype and their mood at a sporting event. It was hypothesized that participants who attend the game at their preferred chronotype time will report being in a better mood and have higher levels of energy than if they attend a game that starts …

Don’T Cut The Cameras: How Media Coverage Has Impacted The Growth Of Women’S Professional Sports In The United States, Lauren Ehrman
Undergraduate Theses
The growth of women’s professional sports in the United States has long been tied to the level and quality of media coverage these leagues receive. This paper examines how media exposure impacts the success of women's sports, with a focused case study on Racing Louisville FC. By analyzing Racing Louisville’s media presence alongside its attendance numbers, this study highlights how limited coverage can stunt fan engagement and broader support. In addition, the paper emphasizes the importance of fair comparisons, suggesting that women's leagues should be evaluated at similar stages of development as men’s leagues, particularly when assessing success at the …

What if learning felt more like a game than a lesson? In our after-school tutoring program, we set out to create a series of educational games that make learning exciting, interactive, and engaging for our 3th through 5th graders. We designed activities that encourage students to think critically, work together, and apply their knowledge in creative ways. Our games focus on key academic areas like math, reading, and problem-solving, but they also help build communications, teamwork, and a love for learning. From fast-paced challenges that test quick thinking to strategy-based puzzles that require collaboration, each game was developed with the …

Service Learning Showcase
As part of the University of the Pacific's College Corps, our group decided to create a project to help improve student focus, emotional regulation, and well-being through structured movement. Inspired by observing the teacher aides at Colonial Heights taking short walks with students and the research on the benefits of movement-based learning, we developed the sensory hallway project at Colonial Heights to provide an inclusive and engaging space where students can regulate their energy levels and emotions while also enhancing their concentration.
A sensory hallway specifically refers to a designated pathway created by placing interactive panels and tactile surfaces with …

Athletics play a significant role in college communities, providing entertainment, camaraderie, and purpose for students and fans alike. This study examines attendance trends at University of Mary Washington (UMW) home softball games, analyzing factors that may influence spectator turnout. Using a dataset spanning from 2015 to 2024, this research explores attendance numbers in relation to variables such as temperature, time of game, day of the week, opponent type, and UMW’s win percentage. A linear regression analysis conducted in IBM SPSS identified temperature and day of the week as the only statistically significant factors impacting attendance, with p-values of 0.007 and …

Game Changers: The Impact Of Female Representation In Sports Media On Girls' Youth Sport Participation, Kaci L. Huff
Game Changers: The Impact Of Female Representation In Sports Media On Girls' Youth Sport Participation, Kaci L. Huff
Undergraduate Theses
This thesis examines how female representation in sports media impacts girls' youth sport participation rates. Using a review of current literature and original enrollment data from local youth organizations, it reveals that limited and often stereotyped portrayals of female athletes contribute to lower participation and early dropout among girls. The study highlights how underrepresentation, especially of marginalized groups, reinforces harmful narratives that deter engagement. Solutions are proposed, including increasing inclusive media coverage and emphasizing athletic achievements over appearance. By reshaping media narratives, the sports industry can create more supportive environments and encourage greater youth sport participation among girls.

From Student-Athlete To Working Professional: Career Readiness For College Athletes, Elizabeth M. Gibbs
Masters Projects
College student-athletes face unique challenges in preparing for life and work after graduation. With a significant amount of time dedicated to their athletic career, many student-athletes have limited opportunities to explore potential careers, participate in internships, or get involved in activities or work on or off campus. The number of student-athletes has continued to increase, and it is important for student-athletes to utilize career resources available to them. Research has shown that student-athletes struggle with career readiness and lack of confidence in transitioning out of their athletic career. It is important to adequately prepare them for the workforce, as very …

The research I will be conducting is how sports organizations can effectively use social media to grow their social media platforms, fan base, branding and even selling their merchandise. By using social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, to gather information that will help gain fan engagement, tracking followers etc. By using quantitative methods to help us reach our goal we can count on how this will increase social activity and an increase in attendance for sports. This quantitative research can give insights in social media and how it can be a very beneficial tool for reaching a targeted audience …

Nil: An Analysis Of The New Financial Compensation Policy For College Athletes And Its Impact On College Athletics, Bruna Gebaili Sampaio
Senior Honors Theses
The newly introduced NCAA Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) laws allow college athletes to have additional opportunities for financial compensation, permitting them to generate revenue out of their image and personal brand. Due to these new regulations, the traditional concept of amateurism in college athletics has been significantly altered. Despite the contracts in no way being able to be based or compensated on an athlete’s on-court performance, these regulations put a strain on the amateurism principles that have marked college athletics in the last century.
These new laws also put to doubt the future of college athletics as we know …

Domestic Violence Punishments In The Nfl, Jesse Lichti
Domestic Violence Punishments In The Nfl, Jesse Lichti
Student Scholar Showcase
The way that professional athletes are punished for violent crimes is something that the leagues need to put an emphasis on. As media coverage has risen in regards to athletes being violent, specifically against women, the fans understanding of its severity has risen along with it. As currently constructed, the NFL allows for too much bias, lacks deterrence, and does not focus on helping the athletes. These are the main points that my presentation focus on. In the next CBA, something like my idea needs to be put into place. This can then be extended to all violent crimes in …
