It’S Different: Examining The Effect Of Hrm Investments On Employee Downsizing Following Mergers And Acquisitions, Pingshu Li, Mengwei Li, Hyesook Chung, Clint Chadwick
Management Faculty Publications
Although some scholars in strategic human resource management (SHRM) research have suggested that HRM investments can be effective in reducing the negative repercussions of employee downsizing, other scholars have argued that such HRM investments could convey contradictory messages to employees, resulting in more negative employee reactions and decreased firm performance. In this research, we addressed this unsettled question by looking into the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) context, where we theorized that the acquiring firm’s HRM investments can positively moderate the negative effect of employee downsizing on firm performance by invoking positive sensemaking processes from remaining acquired firm employees. Moreover, the …

Psychological Safety In Project-Based Workgroups: The Effect Of Individual Experiences On Performance Outcomes, Jacob Brown, David R. Earnest Dr
River Cities Industrial and Organizational Psychology Conference
Abstract Psychological safety is a vital resource across all occupations because it enables employees to learn, contribute, and adapt without fear of negative consequences. Psychological safety empowers members of high stakes, project-based teams to raise concerns, share expertise, and act ethically before miscommunications escalate into costly failures. While prior research in healthcare and aviation has underscored benefits of psychological safety in team environments, less is known about how psychological safety operates across other project-based professions (civil engineering, construction, software development, disaster response) and job sectors that rely on temporary, interdependent project teams. Centering on individual perceptions rather than aggregated team …

Exploring Employee Profiles’ Adaptation To A Return-To-Office Policy: An Eadr Study In Higher Education Administrative Departments, Laura Cecilia Ferraz
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Flexible work arrangements (FWAs) became a central feature of the post-pandemic workplace, offering autonomy and balance. In higher education administrative departments, hybrid models were widely adopted; however, managers struggled with accountability, equity, and effective communication. At the University of South Florida (USF), a mid-study return-to-office mandate required all employees to resume full-time on-site work, creating an opportunity to examine how employees adapted to the loss of flexibility and whether previously developed employee profiles remained relevant.
This qualitative study employed the Elaborated Action Design Research (eADR) methodology to investigate the experiences of employees and managers across three diagnostic phases. Cycle 1, …

Doctor of Philosophy in Translational Health Sciences Dissertations
Background: Empathy has been identified as a crucial skill for all healthcare providers who treat patients with chronic pain. It has been directly linked to higher patient satisfaction and improved health outcomes. It has also been linked to reduced burnout, fewer medical errors, and improved job satisfaction among healthcare providers. Despite the many interventions that have been developed to promote empathy, the decline of empathy in healthcare providers and trainees continues to be of great concern, especially in pain management and opioid prescribing, thus affecting the quality of care given to these patients. In physician assistant students, this decline has …

Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a chronic, often irreversible movement disorder associated with prolonged antipsychotic use. In post-acute and long-term care (PALTC) settings, inconsistent Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) screening practices and limited clinician education contribute to under recognition and delayed treatment. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement (QI) project evaluated whether an educational intervention impacted clinicians’ knowledge, confidence, and perceived importance of AIMS screening among licensed and unlicensed PALTC staff. Guided by Donabedian’s Model of Quality and Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model, the project used a pre-test/post-test design to measure outcomes before and after completion of the Drug-Induced Movement …
