[Objective] To develop an ultra -high performance liquid chromatography -tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC -MS/MS ) method for determining lutein and natural vitamin K (VK) homologues, including phylloquinone (VK1), menaquinone -4 (MK-4), menaquinone -7 (MK-7), and menaquinone -9 (MK-9), in poultry eggs by optimizing ultrasound assisted enzymatic hydrolysis. [Objective] This study developed a preservation process for leisure dried tofu (LD-tofu) by using natural antimicrobial agents, Surfactin and linalool, to replace chemical preservatives. [Methods] The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC ) of Surfactin and linalool was determined with Bacillus subtilis as the indicator bacteria, and aerobic plate count and sensory score were used as the evaluation indicators to optimize the optimal preservation process parameters of linalool and Surfactin for LD -tofu through single -factor and response surface experiments, and the quality changes of LD -tofu during storage were analyzed. Effects Of Different Treatments On Phenolic Content And In Vitro Antioxidant Activity In Black Highland Barley, Zhang Jie, Zheng Wancai, Dang Bin, Yang Xijuan, Guo Junling

[Objective] To improve the polyphenol utilization and antioxidant activity of black highland barley. [Methods] Black highland barley was treated using ultrasonic treatment (UT), microwave treatment (MT), and ultraviolet irradiation treatment (UVT ).The differences in basic nutritional components, phenolic content, phenolic composition, and antioxidant activity were comparatively analyzed. [Results] Compared with the untreated group, the fat content of black highland barley significantly increased (P<0.05) after all three treatments, while the fiber content significantly decreased (P<0.05).The total phenolic and total flavonoid content were significantly increased (P<0.05) by all three treatments, reaching 1.03~1.19 times and 1.24~1.46 times those of the untreated group, respectively.Among them, UT significantly enhanced polyphenol content in black highland barley, increasing total phenolics and total flavonoids by 18.72% and 46.22%, respectively.UVT mainly increased hydroxycinnamic acids and flavonols, UT primarily increased flavonoids and flavanols, while MT mainly increased hydroxybenzoic acids.The antioxidant potency composite index (APC ) of black highland barley treated by the three methods ranked as follows:UT (99.94%)>UVT (93.35%)>MT (82.91%)>CK (74.10%).There was a strong correlation between phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity. [Conclusion] UT resulted in the highest phenolic content and antioxidant activity in black highland barley.

Food safety strategies are being developed in the hopes of combating foodborne pathogens and their risks. Previous techniques and technologies are struggling to meet the needs of the public, leading to the demand for new, innovative methods. Mild high-pressure processing (HPP) of 350 MPa was used in a synergetic combination with mild heat of 60°C and the antimicrobial carvacrol for the decontamination of non-typhoidal Salmonella serovars that resulted in a >5 log CFU/mL reduction. Potassium is an essential macronutrient for plant growth and development, yet excessive potassium fertilization can induce salt stress with detrimental consequences for crop productivity and nutritional quality. Despite its agricultural relevance, potassium chloride induced stress remains significantly understudied compared to classical sodium-based salinity. Hypertension among young people in Indonesia has become an increasingly alarming public health problem due to lifestyle changes, low awareness, and limited access to preventive health services. This review aims to analyze the challenges and strategies for controlling hypertension in young populations based on national and international literature, supported by bibliometric analysis. This study was conducted in a central Arkansas school district to see if going to the Arkansas Better Chance (ABC) Early Intervention Program located in that central Arkansas school district made a difference in how well kids did on their kindergarten reading test (NWEA MAP Growth). Chickpea proteins offer significant nutritional and functional benefits in food products; however, their utilization is often restricted by off-flavors, primarily for lipoxygenase (LOX) and lipase activity. This study aims to develop a novel extraction method by combining acid (pH 2.0) extraction with the conventional alkali (pH 9.0) method to inactivate enzymes and enhance protein quality. Acid-extracted proteins exhibit the highest purity (83.4%), albumin content, and structural flexibility (46.65% random coil). Both acid and sequential acid-alkali-extracted proteins significantly reduced LOX (0.75 and 0.88 U/g) and lipase (0.10 and 0.08 U/g) activity. The farm bill of 2014 and 2018 legalized hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) production for cannabidiol (CBD), grain, and fiber uses in the U.S. Agronomic management practices for floral hemp for CBD production were not well studied. Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) is a C4 crop of significant agricultural and industrial importance, known for its high biomass yield, drought tolerance, and adaptability to marginal lands. However, the high lignocellulosic biomass content of sorghum, particularly its lignin component, poses a significant challenge for efficient biomass conversion. Genetic engineering offers a powerful approach to achieve such improvements by targeting the modification of lignin biosynthetic pathways. This study estimates the economic contributions of the greenhouse and nursery industry, commonly known as the "green industry," in Tennessee for 2023. Utilizing data on employment, labor income, value added, and industry output, alongside economic multipliers generated from the Input-Output modeling software, IMPLAN (Impact Analysis for Planning), we provide a comprehensive analysis of the green industry's impact on the state's agricultural economy. The findings are presented in 2025 dollars, highlighting the industry's significance for informing future policy decisions. Overexploitation of antibiotics in the animal industry has driven the need for reduced usage, but this reduction has intensified the challenge posed by Salmonella enterica and Campylobacter jejuni to livestock systems and public health. This situation underlines the need for sustainable antimicrobial alternatives. Industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) is an emerging crop for renewable fiber materials. For farmers, finding a balance between agronomic performance and economic return is crucial, especially when targeting specific markets like the textile industry, which values not just fiber quantity, but overall quality. Objectives To examine dental care utilization and health and dental care expenditures among individuals with asthma.
Methods Data from the 2022 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) (n = 21,405) were used to examine dental care utilization (any dental, preventive dental, and treatment dental visit) among individuals ≥ 1 year with and without asthma, and mean expenditures were summarized.
Results Overall, the asthma diagnosis was 13.2%, 14.7% in working-age adults compared to 9.5% in children. The percentage of treatment dental visits was higher overall (17.0% vs. 14.5%, p < 0.05) among the asthma group compared to the non-asthma group. Among individuals with asthma, those who had preventive dental visits had lower dental expenditures compared to those who had treatment dental visits for all age groups.
Conclusion Individuals with asthma had a higher prevalence of using dental treatment services. …

Nostoc sphaeroides kützing is a freshwater wild blue algae that has gained significant attention due to its unique nutritional value and multiple biological activities.Nostoc sphaeroides kützing contains a variety of nutritional components, including polysaccharides, proteins, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and mineral elements.It has demonstrated antibacterial, anticancer, lipid -lowering, and antioxidant effects.This article systematically reviews the extraction methods, structural characteristics, biological activities, and applications of Nostoc sphaeroides kützing polysaccharides, and provides an outlook on its future research directions.

The biofabrication of the chitosan-curcumin-capped ZnO-CuO and curcumin-capped ZnO-CuO oparticles, as well as their ability to combat Escherichia coli bacteria, were the focus of this study. Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) were used to examine the chitosan-curcumin-capped ZnO-CuO and curcumin-capped ZnO-CuO oparticles, respectively. Both were evaluated using the agar diffusion method as antibacterials against Escherichia coli. Results of analysis with FTIR, between 500 and 700 cm⁻¹, the functional group of Cu-O or Zn-O was seen at its highest point.
