Children’S Rights At The United States-Mexico Border: Is The United States Of America Breaking International Laws?, Avery Anderson

Immigration and Human Rights Law Review

The treatment of migrant children at the United States-Mexico border has become a contentious issue worldwide. International human rights frameworks set certain standards for the treatment of migrant children, and there are growing allegations that the United States has violated international legal obligations due to its inadequate detention conditions. This article argues that while the United States is not explicitly violating international treaties due to specific reservations, its border policies are in direct contradiction with global norms for the humane treatment of children. Through a review of the legal obligations under customary international law and international treaties, this article highlights …

Leading Through Times Of Financial Uncertainty In Nonprofit Organizations, Lakisha A. Dent-Gordon

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This macro analysis examines the leadership effectiveness of a CEO within a nonprofit re-entry organization dedicated to reducing the 36% recidivism rate in a Southwestern U.S. state. The organization serves up to 50 clients recently released from the state prison system, offering housing and support services. The organizations leadership faced imminent closure due to a financial crisis driven by limited funding, high employee turnover, and a lack of community partnerships, allowing for an examination of the CEO’s response to the crisis. The quantitative study includes a review of peer-reviewed literature, assessments based on the Baldrige Framework of Excellence, and interviews …

Burdened And Fatigued: The Hidden Costs Of Supporting Undocumented Students In Postsecondary Contexts, Blanca Elizabeth Vega

Department of Educational Leadership Scholarship and Creative Works

Sociopolitical and institutional barriers significantly influence the mental health and overall well-being of undocumented and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students in US higher education. Concurrently, higher education and student affairs (HESA) professionals who serve these students face their own psychological and professional challenges as they navigate restrictive policies and bureaucratic uncertainty. This brief research report extends the Immigration Battle Fatigue (IBF) framework by integrating principles from administrative burden theory to examine the interconnected experiences of undocumented students and the professionals who support them. Drawing on qualitative data from a Spencer Foundation–funded study of HESA professionals’ work with undocumented …

Access To Algorithmic Justice Working Paper: Introducing The A2aj’S Canadian Legal Data: An Open-Source Alternative To Canlii For The Era Of Computational Law, Simon Wallace, Sean Rehaag

Commissioned Reports, Studies and Public Policy Documents

The Access to Algorithmic Justice project (A2AJ) is an open-source alternative to the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII). At a moment when technology promises to enable new ways of working with law, CanLII is becoming an impediment to the free access of law and access to justice movements because it restricts bulk and programmatic access to Canadian legal data. This means that Canada is staring down a digital divide: wellresourced actors have the best new technological tools and, because CanLII has disclaimed leadership, the public only gets second-rate tools. This article puts CanLII in its larger historical context and shows …

201 Linden Blvd Partners, Llc V. Samuel

All Decisions

Court dismissed nonpayment petition because the rent demand failed to credit earmarked DSS/HRA shelter payments and sought rent in excess of the collectible legal regulated rent under a DHCR rent reduction order. Report Of The National Expert For The United States In Mapping Third Party Litigation Funding In The European Union, Maya Steinitz Sep 2025

Report Of The National Expert For The United States In Mapping Third Party Litigation Funding In The European Union, Maya Steinitz

Faculty Scholarship

Commercial third-party litigation funding (“TPLF”) is not centrally regulated in the United States.  It is subject to the overlapping jurisdiction of state and federal courts, state and federal legislatures, regulatory agencies, and bar associations. Legislation, regulation, and oversight of TPLF is being undertaken at each of those levels – much of it centered around the questions of when and whether TPLF should be disclosed; how to mitigate conflicts of interest created by TPLF (including the potential for claimants to lose control over their case to funders); and the identification of any foreign individuals, entities, or countries that may be providing …

Uconn-Mathworks Lfp/Gr Second-Life Battery Aging Dataset, Tingkai Li, Aidan Lawlor, Adarsh Narasimhamurthy, Xiaomeng Peng, Chao Hu Sep 2025

Uconn-Mathworks Lfp/Gr Second-Life Battery Aging Dataset, Tingkai Li, Aidan Lawlor, Adarsh Narasimhamurthy, Xiaomeng Peng, Chao Hu

REIL Datasets

This dataset is derived from a test campaign involving 108 commercial LithiumWerks 18650 LFP/Gr cells (nominal capacity: 1.2 Ah, nominal voltage: 3.3 V). The cells were cycled using Neware BTS 4000 testers under controlled temperature conditions. The cells were grouped (3 or 2 cells per group) and cycled under varying fast-charging protocols until their remaining capacity dropped below 80%, simulating end-of-first-life. Fast-charging protocols included: (1) one-step constant current–constant voltage (CCCV) charging with constant C-rates (4C–6C), (2) SOH-based derating CCCV charging with dynamic C-rate reduction, and (3) two-step charging combining a high-rate constant current (CC) step and 1C CCCV step based …

Dunbar Apt. Holdings Llc V. Johnson

All Decisions

The court granted the tenant's motion to amend her answer and for discovery related to a rent overcharge counterclaim. The tenant's counsel argued that a large increase in the registered rent, following a period of purported temporary exemption, was unreliable under the amended Rent Stabilization Code. The court agreed, citing a recent First Department decision and noting that the 2014 amendment to the Rent Stabilization Code bars a landlord from charging a "first rent" after a temporary exemption. The decision allows the tenant to proceed with discovery to determine the reliability of the rent history.

Strategies For Faith-Based Organizations To Maintain A Competitive Advantage In Operations And Financial Stability, Pocahontas Shaniqua Atkinson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Nonprofit organization leaders face numerous challenges in sustaining donations and memberships. Faith-based organizations in particular have experienced declining membership over the past seventy years, which negatively impacts their ability to provide community services. This problem is important to nonprofit and faith-based leaders because financial stability and membership engagement are essential to maintaining operations and fulfilling organizational missions. Grounded in the Baldrige Excellence Framework, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to identify and explore effective strategies nonprofit faith-based leaders use to increase and sustain membership and donations. Participants were four senior business leaders with experience in business operations …

Ppc Residential Llc V. Urtarte

All Decisions

In a nonpayment proceeding where the petition was dismissed, the court denied the landlord's motion to dismiss the tenant's counterclaims. The court held that the counterclaims, which alleged **breach of the warranty of habitability**, survived the dismissal of the petition because the amended answer containing them had been deemed filed prior to the dismissal. The court also denied the landlord's request for an extension of time to file a reply, finding they failed to provide a reasonable excuse for the delay. The court, however, did grant the landlord's motion to join the condominium board as a necessary party, to determine …

Solving The No-Reading Problem With Ai, Royi Ashkenazi Sep 2025

Solving The No-Reading Problem With Ai, Royi Ashkenazi

The Business, Entrepreneurship & Tax Law Review

Standard form contracts bear a consistent curse: consumers do not read them. While AI-powered tools like ChatGPT are now capable of parsing and interpreting such complicated contracts efficiently, the mere existence of these technological capabilities does little to solve the core “no-reading problem”—consumers must actually adopt and use AI for this purpose. This paper proposes a novel regulatory regime that could fundamentally alter consumers’ approach to SFCs through two mandatory requirements: first, that sellers embed in their contracts direct hyperlinks or QR codes connecting to certified AI systems with pre-prepared prompts; second, that all SFCs contain a prominent clause explicitly …
