Challenges In Adapting Fibre Optic Sensors For Biomedical Applications, Sahar Karimian, Muhammad Mahmood Ali, Marion Mcafee, Waqas Saleem, Dineshbabu Duraibabu, Sanober Farheen Memon, Elfed Lewis

Research Outputs: 2025-Present

Fibre optic sensors (FOSs) have developed as a transformative technology in healthcare, often offering unparalleled accuracy and sensitivity in monitoring various physiological and biochemical parameters. Their applications range from tracking vital signs to guiding minimally invasive surgeries, enabling advancements in medical diagnostics and treatment. However, the integration of FOSs into biomedical applications faces numerous challenges. This article describes some challenges for adopting FOSs for biomedical purposes, exploring technical and practical obstacles, and examining innovative solutions. Significant challenges include biocompatibility, miniaturization, addressing signal processing complexities, and meeting regulatory standards. By outlining solutions to the stated challenges, it is intended that this …

The Impact Of Circular Economy Practices On Sustainable Logistics Performance, Chao Ji-Hyland, David White, Ravshan Khaydarov Jan 2025

The Impact Of Circular Economy Practices On Sustainable Logistics Performance, Chao Ji-Hyland, David White, Ravshan Khaydarov

Research Outputs: 2025-Present

Despite increasing attention being paid to the circular economy practices (CEPs) that enable firms to improve sustainable logistics performance (SLP), the existing research lacks empirical evidence from larger surveys and the development of a framework that investigates the relationships between CEPs and SLP in logistics practices. This research aims to propose and measure a wider CEPs and SLP framework. This research employs a two-stage method to develop a model and utilise structural equation modelling of survey data from a sample of Irish logistics firms. The results indicate that reverse logistics and remanufacturing are the two key CEPs. The findings support …

As myopia research expands in scope and complexity, the International Myopia Institute (IMI) continues to provide timely, evidence-based consensus guidance through its biennial white papers and digests. The IMI 2025 Digest delivers targeted updates in areas identified for revision since the previous digest: definitions and classification of myopia, clinical management guidelines, risk factors, accommodation and binocular vision, experimental models, and onset and progression in young adults. A major focus is the evolving concept of pre-myopia, including a refined understanding of hyperopic reserve as a predictive marker, population-specific thresholds, and the distinction between risk and predictive factors. Emerging evidence supports earlier …

All-Ireland Evaluation Of Ultrasound Systems For Prostate Brachytherapy: Application Specific Quality Control Protocol And Quality Assurance Phantoms, Andrea J. Doyle, Deidre M. King, Dervil Cody, Aoife M. Ivory, Jacinta E. Browne Jan 2025

All-Ireland Evaluation Of Ultrasound Systems For Prostate Brachytherapy: Application Specific Quality Control Protocol And Quality Assurance Phantoms, Andrea J. Doyle, Deidre M. King, Dervil Cody, Aoife M. Ivory, Jacinta E. Browne

Research Outputs: 2025-Present

Context: The goal of quality assurance (QA) for transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) prostate brachytherapy is to ensure optimum patient outcomes by providing a high-quality service using equipment that is operating at optimum performance levels. There are specific recommendations from professional organisations that outline the QA parameters that need to be considered specifically for ultrasound guided prostate brachytherapy. However, these recommendations are heavily based on the guidance made for the general application of ultrasound to all relevant clinical applications. Additionally, there is a lack of consensus on the optimum QA test device to conduct the schedule of testing for this specific application …

Institutions And Economic Development, Ezra Rosser Jan 2025

Institutions And Economic Development, Ezra Rosser

Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals

INTRODUCTION: Though forty years have passed since the American Indian Law Review published Economic Development in Indian Country: What Are the Questions? by Professor Frank Pommersheim, many of the same challenges and questions about economic development remain. This brief Essay looks back at Pommersheim’s work, surveys the state of scholarship on economic development today, and offers a few ideas about the future of such work. To this day, economic development remains a backwater among law professors compared to sexier topics like criminal jurisdiction, civil authority over nonIndians, and whatever is the most recent opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court. But …
