Clinton’S March: A Strategic And Logistical Study Of The Crown Forces’ March Through New Jersey In 1778, Colin Edward Zimmerman Jan 2025

Clinton’S March: A Strategic And Logistical Study Of The Crown Forces’ March Through New Jersey In 1778, Colin Edward Zimmerman

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This paper reexamines the British army's march through New Jersey in the summer of 1778, led by Sir Henry Clinton, challenging the traditional narrative that portrays Clinton’s movements as a mere retreat following the loss at the Battle of Monmouth. Instead, it argues that Clinton’s actions were part of a calculated strategy to provoke General George Washington’s Continental Army into a decisive engagement that could potentially end the Revolutionary War. By analyzing Clinton’s leadership decisions, logistical considerations, and the army’s experience during the march, this work reveals a more nuanced intention behind the British movements. The paper contends that Clinton’s …

Synesis As A Framework To Enable Safety Interventions In Complex Healthcare Environments, Aarti Bavare, Tiffany Wrenn, Anne Lam, Jamie Cargill, Lauren Salinas, Itode Idowu, Asma Razavi, Venessa Lynn Pinto, Eric Williams

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

BACKGROUND: Despite wide adoption in the healthcare of safety event report (SER) systems, there is a paucity of unified structures for prompt analysis and action while retaining reporter confidentiality. We used a synesis framework to change siloed reviews of safety reports to a comprehensive appraisal of quality, safety, productivity and reliability to facilitate interventions.

METHODS: After a needs assessment survey, we launched serial plan-do-study-act cycles to (1) enhance teams' ability to access SERs, (2) facilitate regular multidisciplinary review of SERs to identify actionable opportunities, (3) allocate action priority using failure mode and effects analysis, and (4) launch actions and summarise …

Variability And Frequency Of Daily Rainfall In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Abdullah Ai-Saleh Jan 2025

Variability And Frequency Of Daily Rainfall In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Abdullah Ai-Saleh

The Geographical Bulletin

This study examines the temporal and spatial distribution of rainfall in the city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital. The city has experienced significant urbanization in the past two decades. Therefore, the impervious surfaces and the restriction of original surface flow routes increase runoff in Riyadh city. Thus, stormwater frequently accumulates in streets because it exceeds the storm sewer capacity, storm sewers are blocked or partially blocked by sediment, or due to the lack of storm sewers. Data from three climatic stations in Riyadh and north of the city are used to characterize the temporal and spatial variations of rainfall amounts …

Spring nocturnal temperatures inside one U.S. gallon milk jugs were slightly lower and those inside rose cones slightly higher than ambient air temperatures. Placing holes near the bases of these covers to provide additional circulation resulted in slightly lower nocturnal temperatures under the rose cones but no …

Appalachian Kentucky: Some Comments Concerning Poverty And The Nature Of The Banking Network In The Region, Wendy Shaw Jan 2025

Appalachian Kentucky: Some Comments Concerning Poverty And The Nature Of The Banking Network In The Region, Wendy Shaw

The Geographical Bulletin

The Appalachian region has been a core of poverty for many decades. In this research, some changes in the extent and nature Qf poverty in the region are presented that suggest despite extensive programs designed to combat poverty, a core of intense poverty still persists. While significant improvements have been made in such areas as transportation, it seems clear that some roots of poverty in the region have not been addressed. It is argued that one neglected area involves the banking network in eastern Kentucky. This contention is supported by analyzing banking data concerning the internal banking network within the …

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

As ocean crust traverses away from spreading ridges, low-temperature hydrothermal minerals fill cracks to form veins, transforming the physical and chemical properties of ocean crust whilst also modifying the composition of seawater. Vein width and frequency observations compiled from the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) South Atlantic Transect (∼31°S) and previous scientific ocean drilling holes show that vein width distributions progressively broaden and observed strain (Σmveins/mcore) increases with crustal age, whereas vein densities (#veins/mcore) remain approximately constant. Elemental mapping and textural observations illuminate multiple precipitation and fracturing episodes that continue as the …

Department of Medical Oncology Faculty Papers

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer disparities persist among minoritized women due to infrequent screening and poor follow-up. Structural and psychosocial barriers to following up with colposcopy are problematic for minoritized women. Evidence-based interventions using patient navigation and tailored telephone counseling, including the Tailored Communication for Cervical Cancer Risk (TC3), have modestly improved colposcopy attendance. However, the efficacious TC3 intervention is human resource-intense and could have greater reach if adapted for mobile health, which increases convenience and access to health information.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to describe feedback from clinic staff members involved in colposcopy processes and patients referred for colposcopy regarding adaptions …

Identifying The Effect Of Architecture Morphology On Wind Fields And Pm2.5 Dispersion At The Urban Block Scale Via A Combined Scheme, Bin Guo, Lu Li, Xiaowei Zhu, Zheng Wang, Miaoyi Chen, Lin Pei, Tengyue Guo

Mechanical and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

This study explores the potential of architecture morphology to mitigate PM2.5 pollution through enhanced urban ventilation. Despite the recognized influence of building designs on wind and air pollution distribution at the urban block scale, specific mechanisms remain poorly understood. To address this gap, we have developed an integrative approach combining in-situ observations, Geographic Information System (GIS), Remote Sensing (RS), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and statistical modeling. Here, CFD simulates the flow field and PM2.5 dispersion, using in-situ observations for turbulence model selection. GIS quantify architecture morphology parameters to establish accurate CFD boundary conditions, ensuring simulations reflect real-world conditions and precise …

The Theme Of Conflict Between The East And The West In Zadie Smith’S Novel White Teeth And Kiran Desai’S The Inheritance Of Loss, Suzan Haddad Jan 2025

The Theme Of Conflict Between The East And The West In Zadie Smith’S Novel White Teeth And Kiran Desai’S The Inheritance Of Loss, Suzan Haddad

Jordan Journal of Applied Science-Humanities Series

The argument of this study revolves around the crisis of reconstructing identity as a manifestation of cultural resistance in White Teeth by British writer Zadie Smith and in Kiran Desai’s The Inheritance of Loss. This study will focus on how Zadie Smith and Kiran Desai attempt to build a culture of resistance in their respective nations' consciousness through their works. As colonialism has proven its influence on the histories of colonized nations, the colonized have infiltrated the colonialists' claimed justifications for imperialism. One of the controversial issues of post-colonialism is the question of identity, which has become very prominent …

The English And The Welsh: Tolkien’S Rewriting Of History In The Legendarium, Alexander Retakh Jan 2025

The English And The Welsh: Tolkien’S Rewriting Of History In The Legendarium, Alexander Retakh

Journal of Tolkien Research

Early legendarium is often called a "mythology for England," while Tolkien's later tales have been described as mythologies for Britain (by Dimitra Fimi) or Englishness (by Thomas Honegger). Later legendarium still contains fictional versions of English-like peoples, the Hobbits and the Rohirrim. Their construction leads to a re-construction of elements of English history in the subcreation, that often produces fictional analogs not only of the English but of the Welsh. How Tolkien described contacts between the English and their closest neighbors reveals his idea of Englishness (his own national identity) and its place in the narrative.
