Navigating Big Data In Cyber Archaeology: An Updated Four-Field Approach Applied To San Miceli, Jared Wilson
Navigating Big Data In Cyber Archaeology: An Updated Four-Field Approach Applied To San Miceli, Jared Wilson
Dissertations
Problem
This dissertation examines the evolving role of digital technologies in archaeological research, focusing on the management and interpretation of extensive digital datasets generated by modern excavations. Drawing on six years of comprehensive fieldwork at San Miceli, Sicily, this study critically evaluates and updates the established four-field methodology proposed by Levy et al. (2012), encompassing acquisition, analysis, dissemination, and curation. While traditional archaeological documentation methods rely heavily on analog techniques, these approaches increasingly fall short due to the rapid expansion and complexity of digital data.
Method
To address this gap, the dissertation refines and expands the current methodological framework by …
Perceived Social Support And Religious Attitudes As Correlates Of Spiritual Well-Being Among Senior Undergraduate Students At Northeast Brazil Adventist University, Hebert Davi Liessi
Perceived Social Support And Religious Attitudes As Correlates Of Spiritual Well-Being Among Senior Undergraduate Students At Northeast Brazil Adventist University, Hebert Davi Liessi
Dissertations
Problem
Even though the study of spirituality has been a recurrent theme in academia, in Brazil there has been little emphasis on the analysis of spiritual well-being in the context of university students. Few studies have examined the correlation of spiritual well-being with perceived social support or religious attitudes among university students, and most of these have been in the fields of health care or health recovery. Some research has indicated that religious attitudes may be partially disconnected from improvements in the level of spirituality. -- This study aimed to verify whether this disconnection is real or relevant, and assumed …

Developing The Leadership Competency Of Critical Thinking In College Students: A Quasi-Experimental Mixed Methods Study At A Small Christian College, Norberto Restrepo
Dissertations
Our world of constant change and complex challenges requires citizens who know how to exercise higher-order thinking skills, and individuals who have developed their metacognitive abilities to a higher extent are better prepared to perform effectively as leaders. This quasi-experimental mixed methods study employed a pre and posttest design to determine whether the critical thinking skills of students at Hartland College could be improved over the course of a one quarter ten week term through the use of biblical worldview instructional approaches such as biblical worldview development, faith learning integration, and deep Bible study that had critical thinking activities embedded …

Including Individuals' Sense Of Self In Digital Information Privacy, Peter N. Meso, Solomon Negash, Humayun Zafar, Gurpreet Dhillon
Faculty Articles
The nature of contemporary digital ecosystems causes concerns that affect the person, the individual-self, an integral part of an individual’s information privacy calculus and hence a component of individuals’ Information Privacy Concerns (IPC). Yet, prior IPC models overlook self-focused concerns. This study articulates two constructs, termed “loss of autonomy” (i.e., autonomy) and “control over profiling” (i.e., profiling), that reflect individuals’ self-focused privacy concerns. Combining these new constructs with conventional IPC constructs that capture data-focused and device-focused concerns yields an IPC model made up of three dimensions: self-focused concerns, data-focused concerns, and device-focused concerns. The authors first develop instrument items for …
Relationship Between Financial Literacy And Financial Behavior Among Seventh-Day Adventist Full-Time Pastors In The North American Division Of The Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Edwin G. Romero
Dissertations
Problem
This investigation intended to examine the relationship between the financial literacy components of full-time pastors and their financial behavior components. Many pastors struggle with their finances and often retire unprepared due to having inaccurate or incomplete knowledge of relevant financial information and planning strategies.
Method
This study adopted a quantitative, descriptive, and correlational approach to investigate the financial and demographic characteristics of pastors. The questionnaire completed by participants was the financial literacy questionnaire developed by Stella et al. (2020), which helped measure general financial literacy among full-time pastors, and the Financial Management Behavior Scale (FMBS) developed by Xiao (2008) …

Assessment Of The Level Of Relevancy Of Theological Education In The Chinese Context, Jacky Yeung
Dissertations
Problem
The contextualization of theological education has been a topic of academic discussion for many years with scholars exploring various angles related to this subject. Despite the ongoing need for contextualized theological education, an assessment of its relevancy in the Chinese setting has not been extensively studied. This dissertation aims to fill this research gap by assessing the relevancy of Adventist theological education in China and providing recommendations for improvement.
Method
The study employs a mixed-method approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative research methods to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issue. The quantitative stage involves a survey administered to …

The Concept Of Israel In The Old Testament And Its Divine Purpose: An Exegetical And Theological Analysis, Gregory Arutyunyan
Dissertations
The aim of this study is to undertake a fresh look into the concept of Israel in the Old Testament and its divine purpose in the context of the overarching theology of the Hebrew Bible. The working method used in this research is a theological and exegetical analysis of relevant Hebrew text along with incorporating historical and socio-archaeological background studies.
The conclusion that is reached is that Old Testament Israel was a cosmopolitan community of people connected through biological links, intermarriage relationships, and political alliances. In a spiritual sense, the term Israel served as a characterizing title granted to Jacob …

In the next decade, Electric Vehicles (EVs) are expected to contribute to reducing climate change and transforming road mobility significantly. However, the security and privacy of EV charging systems pose considerable challenges that need to be addressed. This article introduces a novel approach by integrating blockchain-based Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) to enhance the security and privacy of EV charging systems. By leveraging the decentralized and immutable nature of blockchain, the proposed SSI framework can ensure secure and private data exchanges between EVs, charging stations, and backend systems. This three-way integration addresses the vulnerabilities identified in existing EV charging methods, such as …

From these interviews, eight themes were identified: (a) multifaceted immigration experiences, (b) immigration challenges, (c) complex language barriers, (d) personality constructs impacting experience, (e) the importance of relationships, (f) limited information and access to support, (g) life satisfaction and dissatisfaction, and (h) advice for future immigrants. These themes indicate …
An Examination Of Harm During The Real-Life Experience, Michelle E. Balch
An Examination Of Harm During The Real-Life Experience, Michelle E. Balch
Antioch University Dissertations & Theses
The Real-Life Experience (RLE) has been described as a coercive and arbitrary requirement without evidence of validity or reliability. This can cause more harm than it prevents for a significant subset of transition-seeking transgender clients. For these reasons the RLE was dropped from the WPATH Standards of Care after version six. However, the RLE has been adopted by a number of health insurance companies as a measure of readiness to receive transition services. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and semi-structured interviews of five individuals were conducted to evaluate their perceptions of RLE and the meaning they attach to their broader …

This qualitative study, utilizing an interpretative phenomenological analysis methodology, elucidates the experience of Latina and Hispanic women living in the United States who have volitionally undergone sterilization or have sought the procedure out for birth control. Understanding the rich, contextual, lived experience of Latina and Hispanic women through an intersectional framework highlights how cultural influences and contemporary policies on reproductive rights informed their personal choice to undergo a female sterilization procedure. The participants of this study shared how they made meaning of their experiences. Within a homogenous sampling of study participants who share ethnicities and genders, six group experiential themes …
A Biogeochemical Perspective On Acidification And Buffering Capacity In The Piscataqua Estuary, Sanjana Varanasi
A Biogeochemical Perspective On Acidification And Buffering Capacity In The Piscataqua Estuary, Sanjana Varanasi
Master's Theses and Capstones
Coastal acidification is influenced not only by rising atmospheric CO2 and river-ocean mixing, but also by metabolic processes that alter seawater carbonate chemistry and buffering capacity. This study examines how sedimentary biogeochemical processes contribute to carbonate system variability in the Piscataqua Estuary, a tidally dynamic channel connecting Great Bay to the Gulf of Maine. The biogeochemical processes considered include sedimentary aerobic respiration, denitrification, sulfate reduction, and carbonate dissolution or precipitation. Two incubation experiments were conducted in September and October of 2024 at the University of New Hampshire’s Coastal Marine Laboratory (CML) to quantify changes in pH, dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), …
Replicating Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (Adhd) Behavioral Profiles In School-Age Children: A Multi-Informant Investigation Of Emotional, Behavioral, And Cognitive Functioning, Tarah K. Todd Mrs.
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties with attention, behavioral regulation, and impulsivity. Traditional diagnostic methods rely on categorical subtypes, often failing to capture the substantial heterogeneity observed across children with ADHD. As a result, there is growing support for data-driven, person-centered approaches that identify naturally occurring behavioral profiles rather than relying solely on categorical subtypes.
The present study sought to replicate previously identified ADHD-related behavioral profiles using contemporary clinical measures. BASC-3 Parent Rating Scale (PRS) data served as the foundation for replication of behavioral profiles, and then these profiles were examined across teacher ratings, executive-function …
Modelling The Hydrologic Impact Of Land Cover On Stormwater Detention Basins In Harris County, Tx, Kabita Sapkota
Modelling The Hydrologic Impact Of Land Cover On Stormwater Detention Basins In Harris County, Tx, Kabita Sapkota
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Harris County on the upper Gulf Coast in Southeast Texas is susceptible to both riverine and coastal flooding due to intense, short-duration thunderstorms, slow-moving frontal systems, and tropical hurricanes. Low-lying terrain, clay soils with poor drainage, high annual rainfall, and a widespread network of bayous and streams all contribute to frequent flooding. To reduce the impacts of urbanization and the loss of surface storage, the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) built detention basins throughout the county to temporarily store stormwater runoff and release it slowly, lowering peak flows and preventing downstream flooding and erosion. These basins vary in land …
A Quality Improvement Project: Increasing Nurse Satisfaction With Patient Educational Material Related To Pain Management Options During Labor, Madison Grant
Master's Theses and Capstones
BACKGROUND:
Pain management is a large portion of what nurses manage during the patient’s time on the labor and delivery unit. The primary forms of pain management that is available to women during this time includes epidurals, nitrous oxide, stadol/diphenhydramine, and nonpharmacological options such as breathing techniques. It is essential that patients are aware of all pain management options prior to entering the unit for delivery, however sometimes nurses have to help to close the educational gap.
LOCAL PROBLEM:
Within the microsystem, it was acknowledged that many patients lacked the education of their pain management options prior to delivery which …

Google Trends is a publicly available aggregate search data portal that allows researchers to capture and review search interests. This dissertation analyzes real-time behavioral shifts resulting from tourism policy changes in Venice, Italy using Google Trends data. This work contributes to the current literature in DiD modeling, by using information-seeking behavior that is ahead of observable, lagged, outcomes. Through the integration of recent DiD advancements, this work further extends DiD applications in tourism econometrics, and a case-example of real-world tourism policy assessment. This dissertation highlights changes in search behavior immediately following policy implementation. Additionally, this work highlights Google Trends as …
The End(S) Of Bankruptcy Exceptionalism: Purdue Pharma And The Problem Of Social Debt, Pamela Foohey, Jonathan C. Lipson
The End(S) Of Bankruptcy Exceptionalism: Purdue Pharma And The Problem Of Social Debt, Pamela Foohey, Jonathan C. Lipson
Scholarly Works
The Supreme Court’s recent 5-4 decision in the controversial chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization of opioid-maker Purdue Pharma ends the use of nonconsensual third-party “releases,” which discharge (eliminate) liabilities of non-debtors who may share liability with a corporate debtor. Although the majority opinion is correct that the Bankruptcy Code does not permit this, it failed to recognize the problematic exceptionalism of the lower courts which approved those releases or the “social” qualities of Purdue Pharma’s mass tort liability.
Bankruptcy exceptionalism has been a contested concept since it emerged over fifteen years ago, and reflects a willingness to bend the rule of …

Child welfare" and "child protection" are misnomers. These terms do not accurately depict the investigatory nature of the system purported to help families, or at the very least, save endangered children. Contrary to public opinion, the "child welfare system" comprises of state actors who police parents and children. It is the naming of this system that convinces the public that these agencies are excised from the category of law enforcement, persuading many that the agencies engage in social work and not police work. Calling the system what it really is-family policing-is a step toward achieving justice for families adversely impacted …

The Regulation Of Presidential Elections, Lori A. Ringhand
Scholarly Works
There is an unresolved dispute lingering just beneath the surface of a host of laws regulating our elections: does Congress have power under Articles I and II of the Constitution to legislate the nuts-and-bolts rules governing presidential elections? The issue exists because of a textual gap in congressional authority. Article 1 section 4 of the Constitution gives Congress the power to override a state's choices about the "times, places, and manner" of congressional elections held in the state. Article II section 1 gives the legislature of each state power to determine the “manner” in which its presidential electors are appointed, …
Global Tax Wars In The Digital Era, Assaf Harpaz
Global Tax Wars In The Digital Era, Assaf Harpaz
Scholarly Works
The digital economy fundamentally disrupts international tax principles that rely on physical presence. When a business earns income abroad, the country of residence (where the taxpayer resides) and the country of source (where income is generated) both have legitimate, competing claims to tax that income. The international tax system tends to favor residence-based taxation. The source country has the right to tax business profits only if the enterprise carries on a permanent establishment within its borders, which typically requires physical presence. The permanent establishment standard becomes flawed in a digital economy where profit shifting practices are abundant and businesses no …
Absolutely Unnecessary Immunity, Eileen R. Prescott
Absolutely Unnecessary Immunity, Eileen R. Prescott

Prosecutors, like judges, cannot be sued for their professional misconduct in most jurisdictions. As long as their actions are sufficiently tied to their job duties, their actual malice does not matter, even if they had demonstrable malice-a prosecutor could bring baseless charges against an ex-spouse specifically to harass them, with absolute immunity from suit. This immunity allows prosecutors to abuse the power of their office without civil recourse. In theory, absolute immunity aims to protect the office by resolving cases simply and quickly, but in reality, courts get bogged down litigating whether a prosecutor's specific action was sufficiently tied to …

Professionals must at times make snap judgments that have profound consequences. Does a doctor perform an otherwise forbidden abortion to preserve a patient’s failing health? Does a police officer fire at a suspect pointing an unidentified metal object? The criminal law tells these professionals: Don’t intervene unless the danger is serious and the risk is imminent. But it offers little to guide that determination beyond: Be reasonable. Yet the “right” choice—the one that’s legally safe—often resembles the “wrong” one: a felony punishable by decades in prison. These ambiguous regimes operate as liability cliffs that professionals are forced to traverse at …

Being There: Perils Of Disembodied Mediation, Robert Mcniff
Scholarly Works
The article examines the rise of online mediation, particularly accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and critiques its limitations compared to in-person mediation. Drawing on 20th-century philosophical, psychological, and sociological thought, the analysis argues that online mediation diminishes the embodied, emotional, and intersubjective dimensions of human interaction, which are critical for empathy, moral agency, and meaningful dispute resolution. While online mediation offers convenience, it risks dehumanizing the process by reducing participants to disembodied images, thereby undermining the unique strengths of mediation as a holistic and empathetic alternative to legal adjudication.

As law school clinical programs have grown in recent decades, many of the newer offerings focus on business law, entrepreneurship, intellectualproperty, and technology. It is commonly presumed that social justice values, such as the amelioration ofpoverty or theprotection offundamental rights, are notfoundational goals of these non-traditional clinics. This Article calls these clinics "values-ambiguous" to highlight the frequent uncertainty and skepticism about their relationship to traditional clinical social justice values. Importantly, "values-ambiguous"does not describe a quality of the clinic itself it describes a quality ofperception of the clinic. In other words, "values-ambiguous clinics" are clinics that are typically not perceived as …

Resisting Federal Preemption, Desiree Leclercq

One of the most pressing issues in constitutional law is how states may—and should—resist federal preempting laws and policies with which they disagree. It’s a problem faced by red and blue states alike in an age of extreme political polarization. Despite having legitimate reasons to resist the federal government on matters that affect local citizens and interests, states seem to have few options. Conventional wisdom is that they engage in either direct resistance through litigation that challenges the constitutionality of preempting laws, or evasion by quietly enacting arguably non-compliant laws hoping to avoid enforcement. Both strategies adopt a belligerent stance …

Presidential power is vast, both under law and in practice. Who holds presidents accountable, and by what means? Courts wrestle with these intertwined questions of power and accountability. The majority opinion in the 2024 presidential immunity case, Trump v. United States, is eerily resonant, rhetorically, with a notorious judgment enhancing one person’s power over others by shielding that power utterly from criminal-law accountability. That judgment, from 1829, is Judge Thomas Ruffin’s infamous slavery-law opinion for the North Carolina Supreme Court in State v. Mann. I juxtapose the two opinions, which share jarringly similar claims about the nature of power, rule, …

The presence of a foreign element in a legal relationship inevitably introduces intricate choice-of-law issues. This postulate holds especially true in the context of international arbitration. Arbitration involves an exceptional degree of procedural freedom (including over the choice of the applicable law) and a distinctive conflict-of-laws regime that may be unbound from a particular national legal system. This article examines several choice-of-law issues arising in the context of international arbitration. In particular, Section I of this article addresses whether the United Nations Convention on Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, otherwise known as the New York Convention, is selfexecuting …
