Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
Objectives: Evidences indicate positive effect of physical exercise on exercise capacity and quality of life in patients with AF. However, whether it improves cardiac function and reverse cardiac remodeling in AF patients was unknown. We aim to evaluate the effects of exercise intervention on cardiac function and structure, and the risk of AF recurrence in patients with non-permanent AF. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Searches were performed in PubMed, ProQuest, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Scopus to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing exercise interventions combined with standard AF treatment versus standard treatment alone in …

Perceptions Of Sustainable Agriculture In Western Wisconsin Among Current Dairy Farmers, Morgan Dekan, Ryan Weichelt
Perceptions Of Sustainable Agriculture In Western Wisconsin Among Current Dairy Farmers, Morgan Dekan, Ryan Weichelt
The Geographical Bulletin
Sustainable agriculture uses environmentally responsible farming practices to meet the needs of society without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. It is a form of farming that is concerned with the health of the farmland and surrounding environment and works to protect both. Wisconsin’s economy is reliant on farming, with over 64,000 farms generating over $104 billion annually for the state. Despite the state’s reliance on agriculture, there is a lack of research on sustainable farming in Wisconsin; therefore, this study sent surveys to hundreds of dairy farmers throughout western Wisconsin asking them about their perceptions …

On The Influence Of British/American English In The Dominican Society/A Revisited Edition, Pedro J. Tavarez-Dacosta Dr., Fransheska Arias Reyes Lic., Ivanna Del Pilar Tavarez Vasquez Mag.
FDLA Journal
The present work is a historical/linguistic account of an unprecedented fact regarding the existence of two English Speaking Communities [British English and American English], in our country the Dominican Republic, where Spanish is the official and most used language, to the extent of being considered a monolingual nation or country. It is analyzed here, on how the Hispaniola Island was split into two different territories due to different treaties (Aranjuez, Ryswick, among others), held in the old European Metropolis and how the island came to be a French Colony (the territory of what is Haiti now), a Haitian Creole/French speaking …

Translanguaging Within The Scope Of Dominican Pre-College And College Education, Pedro J. Tavarez-Dacosta Dr., Fransheska Arias Reyes Lic., Ivanna Del Pilar Tavarez Vasquez Mag.
FDLA Journal
Our country, which is today the Dominican Republic, is a Spanish speaking country due to the historical and well known fact that the then Hispaniola Island or Santo Domingo was split into two different colonies by effect of the Aranjuez Treaty (1777), held between the two Colonial Metropolis of Spain and France thus establishing the French occupation of the territory of Haiti to the West and the Spanish territory to the East, and producing therefore the establishing of two different countries with two different languages (Spanish and French), in a land (Quisqueya) in which in pre-Colombian times was occupied by …

Personality Features And Efl Learning Process Within The Dominican Society Context, Pedro J. Tavarez-Dacosta Dr.
FDLA Journal
Through this work we are focusing on discussing the relationship between the Traits of Personality and the performance of Students in EFL Learning (introversion/extroversion and other determining factors of the educational Process) within the Dominican´s Society context as largely perceived by Teachers of English as a Foreign Language. There have been a great number of international studies already published which had tried to explain the effects of such features of the student's personality, mostly introversion/ extroversion on the student‘s performance in foreign language learning, something , which from the teacher‘s perception have always been presumed as an unquestionable fact. Although …

Decoupled Image Retrieval To Augment Large Language Model Output, Pulkit Jain, Josh Ain, Sowmya Vijayaraghavan, Daniel Hirsch, Jason Fund
Defensive Publications Series
Augmenting textual responses from large language models (LLMs) with relevant images can present challenges at scale, for example, due to computational resources and latency that may be associated with some integrated multimodal models or co-embedding techniques. The disclosed method can address this by classifying a user query, for instance, to determine if it is "image-seeking." If a query is identified as image-seeking, the system can forward the query and associated metadata to multiple systems that can operate in parallel. For example, the query can be sent to an LLM for generating a text response and also to a separate image …

The history of colonialism in the American West is not just the story of how European people, animals, and technologies invaded Indigenous worlds but also of how these things were engaged, redeployed, countered, rejected, and, in some cases, embraced by native communities. In this paper, I look beyond the horses, guns, germs, and steel that have dominated materialist analyses of the colonial encounter to consider the circulation of images—or more precisely, the circulation of new understandings of what images are and how they function. My focus is on the “Biographic Tradition,” …

Medetomidine, a potent central acting α2 agonist, has emerged as a fentanyl adulterant in the non-medical opioid supply. Its use has been linked to a novel withdrawal syndrome that is often resistant to conventional treatment protocols. Four cases are presented exemplifying extreme, but increasingly common forms of this withdrawal syndrome. A literature review is provided demonstrating both the paucity of available literature as well as potential avenues for treatment and future research. As adulterants continue to proliferate in the illicit drug supply, clinicians should anticipate atypical withdrawal phenotypes and consider early intervention.

Using An Old Assay In New Ways: Differential Scanning Calorimetry Characterization, Quantification, And Interaction Analysis Of Whey Proteins, Charity Conlin Jennings
Theses and Dissertations
Whey proteins including β-Lactoglobulin, α-Lactalbumin, Immunoglobulin-G, Serum Albumin, Lactoferrin, and Lactoperoxidase each have unique biological properties spanning anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral activities as well as deliver essential nutrients to the human body. In the past decade, there has been a large focus on extracting these individual proteins for their use in foods and supplements. In order to best extract these proteins and prepare them properly in foods and supplements, an understanding of how they behave and denature in different environments is necessary. However, there is insufficient knowledge of their thermodynamic properties and potential interactions in varying conditions. Additionally, there are …

Sensitive Cloud Point Extraction Method For Determination Of Salbutamol Sulfate In Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms, Ghadah Fadhil
Baghdad Science Journal
The cloud point extraction (CPE) methodology was utilized to produce a simple, highly sensitive, and environmentally friendly method for preconcentrating and evaluating salbutamol sulfate (SAL) in pharmaceutical dosage forms. Triton X-114 was used as a surfactant to recover the product result from the diazotization coupling between SAL and diazotized 2, 4-dichloroaniline (DCA) by the cloud point extraction process. The product was extracted with non-ionic surfactant micelles and then spectrophotometrically detected at a wavelength of 445 nm. Under ideal conditions, the calibration curve’s linearity (r = 0.9947) ranged from 0.1 to 5.0 μg. mL–1 of SAL. The results showed …

Sex-specific division of labour and the associated use of different subsistence techniques by males (e.g. hunting) and females (e.g. gathering) has played an important role in shaping human societies. Skills needed in adulthood are practiced in play during childhood and object play has been proposed to foster tool-use skills necessary for adult subsistence techniques. Here, we investigated sex differences in the ontogeny of object play in Tsimane children in Bolivia to understand its potential role in shaping gender-specific adult roles. We used observational data (>80,000 scan samples) from nine Tsimane communities collected between 2002 and 2007. We analysed age …
