How Does Restoration Affect Food Web Dynamics Within Quail Populations In The Mckinleyville Land Trust Dow’S Prairie Educational Wetland?, Taylor Shaw, Jesika Gonzalez, Lorilynn Acosta, Logan Blank, Zen Godinez, Amir Malikyar, Nanette Durbin, Nievita Bueno Watts
IdeaFest 2025
The McKinleyville Land Trust’s Dow’s Prairie Educational Wetland is a 2.55-acre endangered coastal prairie wetland in California, conserved in 2009. Restoration efforts with the Wiyot Tribe and U.S. Fish & Wildlife removed invasives and reintroduced native plants, but coincided with declining California quail (Callipepla californica) populations. This study establishes the first baseline conditions, using wildlife cameras and botanical surveys to assess quail habitat suitability, examining invasive removal, predation, and fragmentation impacts. Findings will guide adaptive management to balance biodiversity and restoration, while honoring the Baduwa’t Wiyot’s ancestral homeland.

Fawn Awareness - A Health Education Initiative, Jessica De Laguna
IdeaFest 2025
"Fawn Awareness" is a year-long health education initiative highlighting the often-overlooked fourth stress response: Fawn, or the “Submit” response. Seen across the animal kingdom, submission can be just as vital for survival as fight, flight, or freeze. In humans, Fawn often develops in childhood as a way to maintain a sense of security with inconsistent caregivers, later manifesting as difficulty setting boundaries and chronic people-pleasing. This project includes a YouTube video, news article, and research paper featuring expert insight and real-life anecdotes to raise awareness and promote mental health through understanding this misidentified trauma response.

I decided to do scientific studies on the stream flow rate as well as water depth, width, and terrace height on two separate creeks in Humboldt county. The first creek is called the Jolly Giant creek which is located directly behind Founders Hall on campus, and the second creek that I decided to do my research on is the Strawberry creek, which is located directly behind my house. I used a measuring rod and measuring tape for my measurements, as well as three distinct objects to float down the creek which was a lemon, a kiwi, and a lacrosse ball.
On Emerging Technologies: The Old Regime And The Proactivity, Ran Xi
On Emerging Technologies: The Old Regime And The Proactivity, Ran Xi
Cardozo International & Comparative Law Review
Nowadays, emerging technologies are revolutionizing nearly every facet of human life, shaping legal, cultural, political, and technological landscapes. Despite various breakthroughs, emerging technologies have also brought to society legal and regulatory challenges, such as the pacing problem, regulatory silos, and the black box issue. However, existing state-centric regulation on emerging technologies results in fragmented, inconsistent, and ineffective statutes and policies. The traditional regulatory regime, due to its reactive mindset, incremental approaches, and tools of modest efficacy, fails to mitigate associated risks and harms, sometimes even impeding technological innovation. To tackle this dilemma, this Article proposes a proactive law approach with …

Farm Systems and Economics published reports
Western Australia’s broadacre mixed farming systems combine cropping and sheep production and are the largest component of the state’s agricultural sector. The south west Western Australia (WA) agricultural area hosts about 98% of the state's sheep flock. The sheep industry contributed $1.5 billion to the state’s economy in 2021-22 and accounts for about a quarter of on-farm greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Most sheep industry emissions (over 80%) come from methane produced by the sheep. Despite this environmental impact, only 9.9% of Australian sheep producers have estimated their emissions, which limits the industry's ability to monitor and manage carbon footprints effectively. …
Skeleton Weed In Western Australia: 2025 Management Guide, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Skeleton Weed In Western Australia: 2025 Management Guide, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Biosecurity bulletins
Skeleton weed can reduce crop yields by competing for moisture and nutrients (mainly nitrogen).
This guide helps you manage and eradicate skeleton weed infestations on your property, and helps to stop the spread across WA.
Without the coordinated program aimed at controlling the spread, skeleton weed would now be much more abundant and widely established throughout cereal growing areas.
If you find skeleton weed on your property, we can help you get rid of it.
Skeleton weed is unpredictable and can spread over long distances due to wind dispersal, but once identified it can be managed effectively and eradicated

Winter eradication program
New herbicide recommendations for control in crops, legume based annual pastures, plantations and glyphosate tolerant canola.
- The minimum size of ‘squares’ (infested areas) has been reduced from 40 m x 40 m (0.16 ha) to 20 m x 20 m (0.04 ha) to help reduce the winter treatment area.
- Landholders will need to consult with DPIRD/LAG officers to assess the degree of infestation before working or cultivating through squares in Code 1 paddocks.
- Clopyralid (LontrelTM) herbicide will no longer be provided for treatment on heavily infested paddocks. Landholders will still be required to undertake …

The Divine Call: Theophanies Of Athena And Yhwh In Comparative Perspective, Kenny Gomes Ebinger
Master's Theses
Problem
While parallels between Ancient Near East (ANE) literature and the Hebrew Bible are well established in contemporaneous scholarship, the Greek corpus has received little attention in recent studies. This paper addresses this gap by investigating a theophany scene from each corpus, in order to compare how the human-deity encounter is presented in Exodus 3:1–4:17 and Odyssey 1:96–324.
Method
The textual analysis of each scene employs a narratological framework. It takes both texts synchronically and grounds its comparison on the narrative formal elements, structures, and functions. The similarities and differences between each theophany are presented by their emerging themes and …
The State Of Man In Romans 7:22-25: Historical And Exegetical Approaches, J Daniel Miranda
The State Of Man In Romans 7:22-25: Historical And Exegetical Approaches, J Daniel Miranda
Master's Theses
Problem
This thesis addresses the question as to the identity of “I” in Romans 7 and the related spiritual experience. Romans 7 is a very complex chapter that has elicited multiple discussions, which still do not answer the theological problems satisfactorily. Such theological pluralism has also led to various views regarding sin and salvation. Since understanding sin and redemption are fundamental to one’s salvation, there are strong feelings related to the different positions taken. This has also been the case in Adventism, and, unfortunately, this has affected the unity of the church. Part of the problem is seeing the regenerate-unregenerate …

Investigating Relatedness Within Breeding Units Of The Highly Social Bushtit (Psaltriparus Minimus), Fiona Skye Connelly
Investigating Relatedness Within Breeding Units Of The Highly Social Bushtit (Psaltriparus Minimus), Fiona Skye Connelly
Theses and Dissertations--Biology
Cooperative breeding systems represent an array of varied reproductive strategies and remain a topic of interest in behavioral ecology (i.e., Riehl 2013, Cornwallis et al. 2017). Different manifestations of cooperative breeding, such as cooperative polyandry, no doubt have unique evolutionary pressures tied to local ecologies which have led to their proliferation. Of particular interest are species that show flexibility in their use of reproductive strategies, wherein individuals may choose one strategy over another given a specific circumstance. Here, I used double-digest restriction site-associated DNA sequencing (i.e., ddRAD-seq) to investigate bushtit (Psaltriparus minimus) reproductive strategies and the relatedness between …
Temporal Dynamics Of Programmed Genome Rearrangement In Sea Lamprey Embryogenesis: A Deep Learning & Lightsheet Imaging Approach To Studying Early Developmental Transitions, Kasturi Rajandran
Theses and Dissertations--Biology
Programmed genome rearrangement (PGR) in the sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) leads to the elimination of ~0.5Gb (20%) of the germline genome during early embryogenesis, yet its timing relative to the maternal-to-zygotic transition (MZT) remains unclear. In this study, we imaged embryos cleared at 3-hour intervals (up to 72 hours post fertilization (hpf)) using high-resolution lightsheet fluorescence microscopy and a custom deep-learning image-analysis pipeline (~80% accuracy) to quantify nuclei and micronuclei counts. Micronuclei, which are the hallmarks of PGR first appear between 24 to 27hpf (vs ~36hpf previously reported) indicating PGR starts earlier than previously reported in the sea …
The Role Of Metabolic Gate Keepers In Cell Fate Decision Making, Brian Kelly
The Role Of Metabolic Gate Keepers In Cell Fate Decision Making, Brian Kelly
Theses and Dissertations--Biology
Maintaining cellular energy balance and redox stability is crucial to cell survival, with glutamine metabolism playing a central role. While extensively studied in cancer, where it supports biosynthesis and reduces oxidative stress to promote tumor growth, its function in non-cancerous contexts like tissue development and muscle regeneration remains less understood. A key aspect of stem cell biology is quiescence, a metabolically dormant state that preserves the stem cell pool, yet the mechanisms regulating this state are not fully clear. Here, we identify glutamine metabolism as a critical factor governing myoblast proliferation and quiescence through a metabolic program distinct from that …

Insights Into How A C. Elegans Neural Circuit Transitions Between Two Internal States To Produce Egg-Laying Behavior, Shavanie Prashad
Insights Into How A C. Elegans Neural Circuit Transitions Between Two Internal States To Produce Egg-Laying Behavior, Shavanie Prashad
Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Dissertations
A challenge in neuroscience is understanding how neural circuits generate and sustain behavior over time. Neural circuits consist of interconnected groups of neurons that process and integrate sensory information to perform specific tasks and behaviors. These circuits organize behaviors by maintaining internal states—stable neural activity patterns influenced by sensory and physiological contexts, as discussed in Chapter One.
To understand how neural circuits generate internal states, we examined how the well-characterized C. elegans egg-laying circuit transitions between inactive and active states to produce egg-laying behavior. The active internal state lasts approximately 2 to 3 minutes, during which one or more eggs …

Cardiomyocytes (CMs) lost during ischemic cardiac injury cannot be replaced due to their limited proliferative capacity. Calcium is an important signal transducer that regulates key cellular processes, but its role in regulating CM proliferation is incompletely understood. Here we show a robust pathway for new calcium signaling-based cardiac regenerative strategies. A drug screen targeting proteins involved in CM calcium cycling in human embryonic stem cell-derived cardiac organoids (hCOs) revealed that only the inhibition of L-Type Calcium Channel (LTCC) induced the CM cell cycle. Furthermore, overexpression of Ras-related associated with Diabetes (RRAD), an endogenous inhibitor of LTCC, induced CM cell cycle …

Background/Objectives: Bilirubin is a hydrophobic molecule that binds the carrier protein albumin for transport through systemic circulation. Bilirubin is cleared from the body through the liver and excreted into the intestines, where the microbiota modifies the chemical structure, forming urobilin, which can be reabsorbed into circulation by the hepatic portal vein. Urobilin has no known function. It is also unknown whether urobilin binds albumin for transport in circulation. We hypothesized that because of the likeness of their chemical structures, urobilin would also bind albumin like bilirubin does. Methods: First, we used in silico docking to predict if urobilin would bind …

Metabolic and insulin-resistant diseases, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), have become major health issues worldwide. The prevalence of insulin resistance in the general population ranges from 15.5% to 44.6%. Shockingly, the global T2DM population is anticipated to double by 2050 compared with 2021. Prior studies indicate that oxidative stress and inflammation are instrumental in causing insulin resistance and instigating metabolic diseases. Numerous methods and drugs have been designed to combat insulin resistance, including metformin, thiazolidinediones (TZDs), sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i), glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP1RA), and dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors (DPP4i). Bilirubin is an antioxidant with …

Intestinal stem cells differentiate into absorptive enterocytes, characterised by increased brush border enzymes such as intestinal alkaline phosphatase (IAP), making up the majority (95%) of the terminally differentiated cells in the villus. Loss of integrity of the intestinal epithelium plays a key role in inflammatory diseases and gastrointestinal infection. Here, we show that the intestinal microRNA (miR)-27a-3p is an important regulator of intestinal epithelial cell proliferation and enterocyte differentiation. Repression of endogenous miR-27a-3p leads to increased enterocyte differentiation and decreased intestinal epithelial cell proliferation in mouse and human small intestinal organoids. Mechanistically, miR-27a-3p regulates intestinal cell differentiation and proliferation at …

Many eukaryotic species undergo programmed elimination of specific chromosomes during embryogenesis, typically retaining these chromosomes only in their germ cells. In some species, programmatic elimination of GRCs, or sex chromosomes, also occurs in a sex-specific manner, with specific chromosomes being transmitted or eliminated by only one sex. As such, these chromosomes provide a unique perspective on the evolution of gene functions that are advantageous to the germline and genetic tradeoffs between somatic vs germline or oocyte vs sperm biology. While GRCs have been extensively characterized in male sea lampreys (Petromyzon marinus), the status of GRCs in females has not yet …
