Bridging Diversity And Discipline: Stakeholder Perceptions Of Dei And Technical Rigor In Agriculture Education, David A. Yarbrough Jan 2025

Bridging Diversity And Discipline: Stakeholder Perceptions Of Dei And Technical Rigor In Agriculture Education, David A. Yarbrough

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

School-based agricultural education (SBAE) serves as a foundational model for preparing students through classroom instruction, Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs), and FFA involvement. This study examined the perceptions of Georgia high school agricultural educators regarding how diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives impact technical rigor and traditional agricultural knowledge within SBAE programs. Educators reported that DEI efforts did not compromise technical rigor, and traditional elements, such as SAE and FFA, remained central to program success. These findings suggest that inclusion and tradition can coexist, with DEI seen as a complement rather than a conflict with SBAE goals. The results provide valuable …

Alabama Agriculture Teachers’ Perceptions Toward Compensation And Extended Contracts, Allison Kincer

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to explore Alabama agriculture teachers’ perceptions toward compensation and extended contract grants that the state offers annually. The current study was a microreplication of Still and Solomonson’s (2024) prior study and was conceptually framed by their agriculture teacher compensation model. Using a Qualtrics-based data collection instrument, the researcher used multiple points of contact as recommended by Dillman et al. (2014) and collected usable data from 95 Alabama agriculture teachers. The researcher used descriptive statistics to analyze all data collected as part of the current study. The researcher found that respondents felt they …

The Value Of Advanced Degrees In Agricultural Communities, Classrooms, And Ffa Chapters Of Georgia Agriculture Education, James L. Hunter Jan 2025

The Value Of Advanced Degrees In Agricultural Communities, Classrooms, And Ffa Chapters Of Georgia Agriculture Education, James L. Hunter

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

The Smith-Hughes Act of 1917 established federal funding for vocational education in the United States, and school-based agriculture (SBAE) programs are a result of that act. SBAE teachers face the same challenges that other educators face. The attrition rate of SBAE teachers is in line with the national average of teachers in other content areas, and researchers have studied to try to ascertain why some teachers stay while others leave the profession. Many factors contribute to a teacher remaining within the education profession, while other factors lead to a teacher changing professions. The study examined the impact of advanced degrees …

Agreement On Climate Change, Trade And Sustainability: Forging New Frontiers In Trade And Sustainability Debate, Rishabha Meena, Apoorva Singh Vishnoi

Indian Journal of International Economic Law

The Agreement on Climate Change, Trade and Sustainability (ACCTS) is a historic international trade agreement that weaves environmental considerations into a traditional trade agreement. While only four countries, namely New Zealand, Switzerland, Iceland, and Costa Rica, are Parties to the ACCTS, it is open to new members, and a textual analysis of its review provisions underscores the commitment of ACCTS Parties to ‘design flexibility’. Its Chapters liberalising trade in environmental goods and services, disciplining fossil fuel subsidies and providing voluntary guidelines on ecolabelling mark it as an international trade agreement with many historical firsts. This Article will undertake a legal …

Finding Method To Madness: The Indian Supreme Court's Dignity Jurisprudence, Aishani Gupta Jan 2025

Finding Method To Madness: The Indian Supreme Court's Dignity Jurisprudence, Aishani Gupta

National Law School of India Review

This article critically examines the Indian Supreme Court’s use of the concept of dignity in constitutional adjudication. Though the Indian Constitution references dignity only thrice, its substantive development has occurred mainly through case law. Using recent literature on dignity as well as case law between 1978 and 2023 this article categorises three main uses of dignity: (i) the constitutional status of dignity; (ii) the expansion of dignity; (iii) homage to dignity. The paper argues that while dignity is necessarily multifaceted, its application should be consistent across similar fact patterns to ensure consistency. To support this, the author analyzes nine Supreme …

Gamification And Geography Education: A Survey And Typology Of Games, Ruth Ohaka Jan 2025

Gamification And Geography Education: A Survey And Typology Of Games, Ruth Ohaka

Graduate Research Papers

Gamification in education transforms traditional, non-gaming contexts (i.e., classrooms) by incorporating challenges and scenarios with their own rules, stories, and stakes. In geography education, teachers have sought ways to gamify the classroom, develop students’ spatial reasoning, and develop place-based capabilities for critical thinking and problem-solving, making complex geographical and environmental concepts more relatable and accessible to the students. Regardless of the documented achievements with gamification, such as more engagement, deeper understanding, and increased motivation, there remains a lack of a comprehensive typology of games used within geography education. This paper aims to develop a typology of games used in education …

Critical Environmental Communication Framework, Shumaila J. Bhatti, Srivi Ramasubramanian, Andrea Feldpausch-Parker, Bruno Takahashi, Silje Kristiansen

Media Studies - All Scholarship

This study develops a Critical Environmental Communication (CEC) framework to assess the landscape of Environmental Communication research and to what extent and in which ways critical and justice-oriented perspectives are included. The CEC framework consists of four interconnected themes: (a) Marginalized Ecocultural Identities, (b) Context and Scale, (c) Power and Agency, and (d) Justice, Equity, Diversity, Access, and Inclusion (JEDAI). Using this framework in a bibliometric analysis examining 1,297 Environmental Communication publications, we assess the occurrence of these themes in the scholarship. Our analysis found that Marginalized Ecocultural Identities, and Context and Scale were most frequently occurring, while Power and …

The Siren Song Of Territoriality, Robin J. Effron, Alan M. Trammell Jan 2025

The Siren Song Of Territoriality, Robin J. Effron, Alan M. Trammell

Scholarly Articles

Territoriality—the theory that a state’s physical borders determine its power and sovereignty—boasts a long, venerable history. For centuries, it served as the dominant political theory for myriad ideas. It defined a wide range of doctrines, including personal jurisdiction, choice of law, and prescriptive jurisdiction. By the middle of the twentieth century, though, this rigid territoriality no longer described or responded to the challenges of a society that had grown increasingly mobile and interconnected. Courts replaced inflexible territorial theories with more functional theories rooted in fairness and state regulatory interests.

In recent years, territoriality has seen a curious resurgence. The Supreme …

The Limits Of Tradition: Counterman, True Threats, And The Categorical Approach To Free Speech, Brett Zicari Jan 2025

The Limits Of Tradition: Counterman, True Threats, And The Categorical Approach To Free Speech, Brett Zicari

Catholic University Journal of Law and Technology

Tradition is in vogue.[1] Across a wide variety of areas, the Supreme Court has embraced “history and tradition” as its primary methodology for determining the meaning of constitutional provisions.[2] Recently the Court has even suggested that a restriction on the use of names in trademarks could rest entirely on its traditional status,[3] but nowhere has this move toward tradition been as robust or longstanding as in the speech context. Since the 1940s, the Supreme Court has invoked tradition to defend content-based or categorical restrictions, and more recently, it has purported to rely exclusively on tradition.[4] The …

An Analysis Of Kenya Sign Language In Children’S Programming On Kenyan Tv: Towards Effective Strategies For Incorporating Ksl On Akili Tv Programs, Anne Junny Sato Jan 2025

An Analysis Of Kenya Sign Language In Children’S Programming On Kenyan Tv: Towards Effective Strategies For Incorporating Ksl On Akili Tv Programs, Anne Junny Sato

Executive Masters in Media Leadership and Innovation

In Kenya, the inclusion of Kenya Sign Language (KSL) in children's programs on television holds significant potential for fostering inclusivity and accessibility for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) community. However, the effective integration of KSL into children's programming requires careful planning, consideration of linguistic and cultural nuances, and utilization of appropriate strategies. This capstone project aims to analyse the utilisation of KSL in children’s TV programming and propose effective strategies for incorporating KSL in children's programs on Akili TV, a prominent television channel in Kenya. Drawing from linguistic theories, such as Chomsky's Language Acquisition Device (LAD), and global …

Intersecting Abuse Of People And Animals In Practice: Implications Of The Connection Between Intimate Partner Violence And Animal Abuse For Family Justice Professionals, Amy Fitzgerald, Valerie Monckton, Kerri Thomson, Kendra Coulter Jan 2025

Intersecting Abuse Of People And Animals In Practice: Implications Of The Connection Between Intimate Partner Violence And Animal Abuse For Family Justice Professionals, Amy Fitzgerald, Valerie Monckton, Kerri Thomson, Kendra Coulter

Canadian Journal of Family Law

According to recent estimates, 60% of Canadian homes have at least one cat or dog, and the number continues to climb. Often considered family members, these animals are vulnerable to family violence. Their presence can also render human victims of violence more vulnerable: research indicates many victims delay leaving their abuser out of concern for their animals or consider returning to the abusive relationship because their abuser has the animal companions. Despite a substantial body of literature documenting the link between intimate partner violence (IPV) and animal abuse, research has not examined how family law professionals encounter and deal with …

Sorting Out Surrogacy: Three Considerations For Evidence-Informed Law Reform, Vanessa Gruben, Alana Cattapan Jan 2025

Sorting Out Surrogacy: Three Considerations For Evidence-Informed Law Reform, Vanessa Gruben, Alana Cattapan

Canadian Journal of Family Law

This article draws on novel survey research with surrogates in Canada—the Exploring Surrogates Experiences and Insights Survey—to examine three critical issues for potential law reform: (1) reimbursement and compensation (i.e., payment); (2) the work of surrogacy agencies; and (3) surrogacy arrangements involving foreign intended parents. Following a brief history of the regulation of surrogacy in Canada and a description of the survey’s methods, it explores each of these areas in turn, using the survey results to identify considerations for law reform. It argues that while the current legislative and regulatory framework largely addresses key issues related to commercialization and commodification, …

Intersection Between Individual, Household, Environmental And System Level Factors In Defining Risk And Resilience For Children In Kenya’S Asal: A Qualitative Study, Esther Chongwo, Barack Aoko, Martha Kaniala, Moses Wesala, Phillis Magoma, Eunice Njoroge, Susan Nyamanya, Joyce Marangu, Anil Khamis, Amina Abubakar

Institute for Human Development, East Africa

Introduction: Children growing up in arid and semi-arid regions of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) face heightened risks, often resulting in poor developmental outcomes. In Kenya, the arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL) exhibit the lowest health and developmental indicators among children. Despite these risks, some children grow up successfully and overcome the challenges. However, there is limited comprehensive data on sources of risks and resilience in these children, particularly research that incorporates community perspectives and indigenous knowledge. Systematic documentation of factors influencing child outcomes is crucial for understanding the overall burden, informing policy and implementing targeted interventions. This study aimed at …
