Flowchart Orchestration For Complex Task Performance Using A Large Language Model, Na Dec 2024

Flowchart Orchestration For Complex Task Performance Using A Large Language Model, Na

Defensive Publications Series

While large language models (LLMs) can be used to perform complex tasks, e.g., rating search results, training and maintaining LLMs runs into several challenges. These include the significant expense to obtain training data, difficulty in identifying weaknesses, lack of explainability, and the lack of transferability to new foundation models or versions. This disclosure describes the use of flowcharts for orchestration of large language models (LLMs) to perform complex tasks. A complex task is broken down into a predefined set of simpler tasks. These simpler tasks are represented in a traditional flowchart format. The LLM is prompted to make the individual …

Shame, Loneliness, Regret: Analyzing Theeffectiveness Of Anti-Alcohol Marketing Campaigns On Consumers, Zakary Bradbury

Honors Projects in Marketing

The alcohol market has been growing exponentially worldwide over the past decade with no trends of stopping in the near future. With this growth comes an increase in marketing efforts from both pro-alcohol companies and anti-alcohol agencies. While pro-alcohol companies have not had any trouble regarding marketing, anti-alcohol agencies have lagged behind in terms of social and digital marketing efforts. The goal of this research was to uncover how various anti-alcohol stimuli affect consumer attitudes and beliefs. To conduct research, we ran a Qualtrics survey consisting of 279 college students. The results showed that 1) when participants viewed an anti-alcohol …

Deciphering Mechanochemical Influences Of Emergent Actomyosin Crosstalk Using Qcm‑D, Emily M. Kerivan, Victoria N. Amari, William B. Weeks, Leigh H. Hardin, Lyle Tobin, Omayma Y. Al Azzam, Dana N. Reinemann Dec 2024

Deciphering Mechanochemical Influences Of Emergent Actomyosin Crosstalk Using Qcm‑D, Emily M. Kerivan, Victoria N. Amari, William B. Weeks, Leigh H. Hardin, Lyle Tobin, Omayma Y. Al Azzam, Dana N. Reinemann

Faculty and Student Publications

Purpose: Cytoskeletal protein ensembles exhibit emergent mechanics where behavior in teams is not necessarily the sum of the components’ single molecule properties. In addition, filaments may act as force sensors that distribute feedback and influence motor protein behavior. To understand the design principles of such emergent mechanics, we developed an approach utilizing QCM-D to measure how actomyosin bundles respond mechanically to environmental variables that alter constituent myosin II motor behavior.

Methods: QCM-D is used for the first time to probe alterations in actin-myosin bundle viscoelasticity due to changes in skeletal myosin II concentration and motor nucleotide state. Actomyosin bundles were …

Knapp, Brooke Fallon, Sandhya Kortagere, Barry D. Waterhouse, Stan B Floresco, Rachel L Navarra

Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine Departmental Research

RATIONALE: Psychostimulants, such as amphetamine (AMPH) and methylphenidate (MPH), non-selectively elevate extracellular concentrations of the catecholamine neurotransmitters, dopamine (DA) and norepinephrine (NE), and are common pharmacological strategies used to improve prefrontal cortex (PFC)-dependent cognitive dysfunction. However, this approach can be problematic given AMPH has been shown to increase preference for risky choices in a rodent assay of risk/reward decision making. SK609 is a novel NE reuptake blocker that selectively activates DA D3 receptors without affinity for the DA transporter. SK609 has been shown to improve cognitive performance without increasing psychostimulant-like spontaneous locomotor activity, suggesting SK609 may benefit neurocognitive function without …

Predatory Decarceration, Elenore Wade Dec 2024

Predatory Decarceration, Elenore Wade

Duke Law Journal Online

This Essay critiques the bipartisan criminal legal system reforms that have emerged over the past several years. These reforms result in predatory decarceration that exacerbates the precarious conditions of returning prisoners and supervisees—as well their communities—and distributes the benefits of reform upward. Taking an abolitionist perspective and drawing an analogy to Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor’s concept of predatory inclusion, this Essay contends that these reforms offer freedom from incarceration only in exchange for productivity and compliance with non-incarceration penal controls such as community supervision sentences, which almost universally include work requirements. Thus, the reforms, while reducing incarceration rates, ultimately reinforce an ultraliberal …

Strategies For Driver Retention At Small Trucking Companies, Dariell Kendrick Cooper Dec 2024

Strategies For Driver Retention At Small Trucking Companies, Dariell Kendrick Cooper

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The trucking industry faces a critical driver shortage, which threatens the stability of supply chains and the economy at large. This issue is particularly challenging for owners of small trucking companies, as they form the backbone of the industry. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor theory and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, this qualitative pragmatic inquiry aimed to identify the strategies small trucking company owners used to retain drivers and sustain their operations. The participants included five small trucking company owners from the southeastern United States. Data were collected through semistructured interviews, public records, and company websites. Thematic analysis was used to …

Impact Of Patient Psychoeducation On Medication Adherence In Bipolar Depression, Mary Nse Wellington Dec 2024

Impact Of Patient Psychoeducation On Medication Adherence In Bipolar Depression, Mary Nse Wellington

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The quality improvement (QI) project targeted patients with bipolar depression, aged 20–50 years, in an outpatient mental health setting who had the problem of nonadherence to medication. Medication nonadherence is a major concern in nursing practice that impacts clinical effectiveness, overall treatment outcomes, and healthcare cost implications. The project evaluated whether the outcome, timely refill rates of prescription medication, was impacted by the psychoeducation that was conducted outside the scope of the project. The project question was, “What is the impact of patient psychoeducation to improve timely refill rates among patients with bipolar depression aged 20–50 years in an outpatient …

Executive Summary: Development And Validation Of A Clinical Practice Guideline For Improving Colorectal Cancer Screening, Katie Nguyen Dec 2024

Executive Summary: Development And Validation Of A Clinical Practice Guideline For Improving Colorectal Cancer Screening, Katie Nguyen

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Colorectal cancer is one of the top three killers of adults globally. The age to be screened for colorectal cancer for average-risk individuals has been lowered from 50 to 45 years of age; however, for those with a familial history of colorectal cancer, or a personal medical history of other gastrointestinal diseases, the age to be screened has been lowered from 45 to 40 years of age or younger. A clinical practice guideline (CPG) that supports the screening, identification, and referral of patients at risk has the potential to improving colorectal cancer screening in at-risk patient populations. This was identified …

Perceptions Of False Acceptance Of Guilt Or Punishment Within Military Non-Judicial System, Jennifer Rockwell Dec 2024

Perceptions Of False Acceptance Of Guilt Or Punishment Within Military Non-Judicial System, Jennifer Rockwell

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

An innocent individual falsely accepting guilt and punishment for something they did not do confounds society at large. This research expands upon the literature studying false confessions and false guilty pleas within the civilian courts to the particulars of the military judicial system and specifically that of the non-judicial system. Understanding the possibility for false acceptance of guilt and punishment within this system can lead to process or program changes that would benefit both the military in general and the individual members of the military. Social influence theory along with social role theory and social norms theory forms the foundation …

Occupational Therapy Faculty Mentorship And Degree Type As A Predictive Relationship With Student Satisfaction Scores, Gwen R. Morris Dec 2024

Occupational Therapy Faculty Mentorship And Degree Type As A Predictive Relationship With Student Satisfaction Scores, Gwen R. Morris

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education outlines criteria for occupational therapy graduate programs by degree type but does not require pedagogic knowledge for either degree type. The problem addressed through this study was that the predictive relationship between occupational therapy faculty mentorship in the first 3 years of teaching and degree type with student satisfaction is unknown. The study was grounded by constructivism and occupational adaptation. The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study was to determine if there is a predictive relationship between occupational therapy faculty mentorship and degree type (independent variables) with student satisfaction (dependent variable) among occupational …

Police Officer Perceptions Of Mental Wellbeing Needs: A Multi-Methods Study, Suzanne Hakeos Dec 2024

Police Officer Perceptions Of Mental Wellbeing Needs: A Multi-Methods Study, Suzanne Hakeos

MUSC Theses and Dissertations

Police officers are exposed to repeated traumatic exposures (e.g., deaths, abuse, threats to personal and community member safety) and organizational stressors (e.g., poor leadership and support, low job control) throughout their careers. These job-related exposures and stressors have been shown to increase the officers’ risk for developing physical (e.g., cardiovascular disease, sleep deprivation) and mental health issues (e.g., depression, anxiety, hypervigilance, post-traumatic stress disorder, hopelessness, substance abuse, self-isolation, suicidal ideations). Outside of their work environment and duties, factors and stressors related to the officer (e.g., beliefs, values, coping strategies, personality, life experiences), interpersonal relationship dynamics (e.g., work-family demands, conflict, support), …
