The Undoing Of Eve: A Biblical-Theological Critique Of John's Portrait Of The Female Image Of God, Melissa A. Fields Dec 2024

The Undoing Of Eve: A Biblical-Theological Critique Of John's Portrait Of The Female Image Of God, Melissa A. Fields

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This dissertation offers a fresh exploration of the Gospel of John through a biblical theological lens, tracing the dynamic motif of the female imago Dei and its development within the Johannine narrative. By merging literary analysis with a close examination of the biblical portrayal of femininity, the study sheds light on how the Fourth Evangelist reimagines the female image of God within the context of a new creation, presenting a vision that may reshape the complementarian-egalitarian debate within today’s Christian communities. Applying the “worldview-story” biblical-theological approach, the researcher asserts that John’s positive depiction of femininity suggests a restoration of woman’s …

Stress Testing Deep Learning Models For Prostate Cancer Detection On Biopsies And Surgical Specimens, Brennan T. Flannery, Anant Madabhushi

Faculty Scholarship

The presence, location, and extent of prostate cancer is assessed by pathologists using H&E-stained tissue slides. Machine learning approaches can accomplish these tasks for both biopsies and radical prostatectomies. Deep learning approaches using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been shown to identify cancer in pathologic slides, some securing regulatory approval for clinical use. However, differences in sample processing can subtly alter the morphology between sample types, making it unclear whether deep learning algorithms will consistently work on both types of slide images. Our goal was to investigate whether morphological differences between sample types affected the performance of biopsy-trained cancer detection …

The New Glass Ceiling, Andrea K. Schneider, Abigail R. Bogli, Hannah L. Chin Dec 2024

The New Glass Ceiling, Andrea K. Schneider, Abigail R. Bogli, Hannah L. Chin

Articles

Until the last decade, gender inequality in the legal profession was selfevident. Law school classrooms and law firm offices were overwhelmingly filled with men. In recent years, women have outnumbered men in law school classes and reached parity with men among first-year associates. These developments have created the misperception that gender equality has been achieved. In this Article, we challenge this complacency. We present new evidence from a detailed case study of law firms in a midsize city, showing that women remain underrepresented in leadership roles and underpaid relative to their colleagues. We then show how the limited opportunities and …

Understanding The Effectiveness Of State Teaching Licensing For Deaf Instructors, Andrew Knox

Theses

This capstone research examines the systemic barriers that Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) individuals face when pursuing state teaching licensure in the United States. Despite the growing need for Deaf educators, the current licensure process often marginalizes Deaf candidates by failing to provide adequate accommodations and relying heavily on standardized, English-based exams that disproportionately disadvantage non-hearing individuals. Using a mixed-methods approach that incorporates anonymous surveys of candidates’ experiences and a review of policy documents, this study uncovers key institutional biases and explores alternative pathways to licensure. These alternatives include performance-based assessments and innovative solutions such as video-based evaluations and …

Cognitive And Emotional Theory Of Mind In Eating Disorders: The Mediating Role Of Alexithymia, Morgan R. Johnson Dec 2024

Cognitive And Emotional Theory Of Mind In Eating Disorders: The Mediating Role Of Alexithymia, Morgan R. Johnson

Theses

A number of studies have documented deficits in theory of mind (ToM), or the ability to infer the mental states of others, among individuals with eating disorders (EDs). Much of this research has focused on emotional ToM, as opposed to cognitive ToM, where mental inferences do not contain affective content. Alexithymia, a difficulty in the ability to correctly identify and describe one’s emotions, has also been reported among individuals with EDs. Alexithymia was hypothesized to mediate the relationship between ED symptoms and emotional ToM, as it has been shown in past research to significantly mediate emotion processing deficits in those …
