A herringbone grooved hydrodynamic thrust bearing is a specialized type of bearing designed to support axial loads in rotating machinery. It is commonly used in turbines, compressors, and pumps. It utilizes a hydrodynamic lubrication mechanism to reduce friction and wear between the rotating and stationary parts. In this paper, a second order dynamic analysis for the herringbone grooved thrust bearing based on the finite perturbation abroach is performed. The Reynolds equation, expressed in polar coordinates, was differentiated to analyze small perturbations from the equilibrium state. This process yielded the first order and then the second-order equations describing these perturbations. Reynold's …

Impact Of Traditional Education And Learner-Centered Education On Standardized Tests, Courtney Marie Winslow
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There is a current shortage of approximately 45,000 nurses and nursing faculty to train student nurses, a number that is projected to grow. One proposed method to combat the shortage is to transition from traditional lecture-based classrooms to a learner-centered approach. Asking or requiring faculty to transition an entire nursing program from one teaching method to another without supporting data could be a waste of valuable time and resources. It could also prove detrimental to a program if students were unable to pass the NCLEX-RN exam, and a program was forced to close. The current study examined whether there was …

Structural And Functional Studies Of The Human Members Of The Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor Family, Andrew Parkins
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and D-dopachrome tautomerase (D-DT) are the two human members of the MIF superfamily, which are implicated in an array of autoimmune disorders, inflammatory diseases, and cancer via their pleiotropic functionality. Despite only sharing 34% sequence identity, MIF and D-DT have high structural homology and overlapping functional traits, including activation of the type II cell surface receptor CD74 and keto-enol tautomerase activity. The MIF and/or D-DT-induced activation of CD74 leads to signaling cascades pivotal for cell growth, proliferation, and inhibition of apoptosis. Such characteristics make MIF and D-DT attractive molecular targets for drug discovery.

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Every child has a right to education, and their skin color should not determine their education quality. However, since the landmark case of Brown v. Board of Education (1954), it has been proven that race continues to matter in the success and failure of education (Delgado & Stefancic, 2001). The persistent achievement gaps between students of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, as well as the disparities in access to high-quality educational opportunities, demonstrate how race and ethnicity shape the educational experiences of students of color (Stanford Center for Education Policy Analysis, 2012). Unfortunately, stories such as Ruby Bridges of New …
