This article aims at analyzing the heuristic status of self-writing through the articulation of shattered and reconciled identity in La vie sans fards (2012) of Maryse Condé and Ma grand-mère bantoue et mes ancêtres les Gaulois (2003) by Henri Lopes. In fact, we argue that the articulation in question, here, appears as writing for oneself and for others, which is based on a hermeneutical perspective of the self and the sociality of texts proposed by Paul Ricoeur and Claude Duchet. The comedy has always been an incredibly versatile genre: although it certainly contains rote story formulas meant to provide lighthearted entertainment, the comedy can also reveal interesting perspectives pertaining to darker underlying issues, allowing audiences to process these hypocrisies as from behind a screen of safety. Such is the case of the movies The King of Comedy (1982), Wag the Dog (1997), Bowfinger (1999), and Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), all of which can be classified as comedic escapades yet fail to conceal their corrupted underbellies from a prying viewer. Based on the two-step flow model, this study examines how social media influencers manage brands through three aspects, including content strategies, engagement, and interactivity. A content analysis was conducted to compare content marketing strategies and levels of engagement and interactivity between popular and unpopular creators. The results show popular creators post more often, post more promotional content, interact less, but receive positive praise from their followers. Their followers are more engaged. The Instagram posts tend to imitate celebrity sites and often use professional photographers rather than photos from mobile devices. It has become increasingly apparent that anti-colonial and anti-racist pedagogies are necessary in higher education classrooms, and honors education as an experimental zone is an ideal place to test ideas that can be taken into the wider university community. Honors professors epitomize the teacher-scholar model, and this paper presents a six-year trajectory of anti-colonial pedagogy coupled with original interdisciplinary research in the social sciences, arts, and humanities. In private dance studios today, less importance is placed on students learning tap dance technique compared to other genres of dance, which is likely due to a lack of available teachers with the proper training and understanding of the tap dance technique and pedagogy. As a result, students in many private dance studios are left with limited training opportunities in tap dance, and older dancers that lost the chance to train in tap dance at a young age often become discouraged and uncomfortable with the genre. Introduction: Virtually no studies have looked at psychopharmacological combinations as models of the near-death experience (NDE), which is inadequate given the evidently complex neurochemistry occurring near- or at death. An example of such a combination is "changa," a smoked mixture of the psychedelic N,N-DMT and monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)-containing plants, and as such has been referred to as "smokable ayahuasca" (vine of the dead). Only very few studies, yet not systematically, have included experiencers of both NDEs and psychoactive substances. In Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions, the material world is understood to contain access points to the transcendent. An icon may move the awestruck believer to emotional engagement and reflection on moral and religious themes. Personality dispositions potentiating the experience of being moved in religious aesthetic contexts have not been thoroughly studied. The present article describes the development and testing of a cross-sectional study into potential belief and personality-related predictors of being moved by sacred art in a lab environment evocative of a holy site. Over the years, the Media Ecology Project (MEP) has assembled a significant digital collection of moving images, books, and photographs of research value. From 2020 to 2022, MEP has taken several initiatives to improve the management and organization of the collection and its metadata, including creating a database and updating the existing schema. This article looks back at some of the challenges encountered during the process and forward to potential further developments.

This paper discusses a project involving the translation of individual silent movie frames into three-dimensional virtual environments that can be viewed using augmented reality technology. The specific frames that were used were shot in one block of a neighborhood in Fort Lee, New Jersey, that was popular for filmmaking in the first decades of the twentieth century. After a brief overview of the project, several core technologies and concepts involved will be introduced, along with a short survey of prior related work to provide some background. Although the most significant role in the early years of motion picture production was undoubtedly that of the camera operator, there is relatively little known about the people who performed this job during cinema’s silent era. The development of the fledgling motion picture business relied almost entirely on the technological and aesthetic advancements involved in capturing moving images, and much of the credit for these advancements can be attributed to the camera operators themselves who often functioned as roving inventors, photographers, technicians, and directors simultaneously. Dickson’s early accounts to the 1978 Brighton FIAF Conference on Cinema 1900-1906, which brought together young scholars and veteran archivist in a congenial, collaborative setting. It examines the contemporary moment in which its study has been expanded and institutionalized within academia, characterized by numerous biennial conferences and yearly gatherings such as the Giornate del Cinema Muto. Tied to this are debates about the relationship of broad historiographic characterizations to sustained, in-depth research. The literature review traces the evolution of modern philanthropic practices, highlighting how the donor-centric model became the standard in the nonprofit sector and examining its limitations, which can hinder a nonprofit's ability to support its clients effectively. In contrast, community-centric philanthropy prioritizes collective community needs, aspirations, and strengths over individual donor preferences. The essay provides a detailed description of Daydreams, the first scholarly database of feature films produced in the Russian Empire and its former territories from the first years after the October Revolution until the end of private film production. This database contains the most complete filmographies, synopses, iconographic materials (such as promotional stills, posters, and frame enlargements), and video clips for more than 2,500 films. Tracing its goals, scope, sources, and structure, the article discusses a fundamental digital platform of materials related to the cinema of the Russian Empire which is about to open in the fall of 2023.

This essay demonstrates how multimodal analysis and scholarly collaboration fostered by the Media Ecology Project (MEP) can offer a methodological intervention in the study of performance in early cinema. This research asks what distinguished the performances of Florence Lawrence (known as the “Biograph Girl”) from other performers’ acting modalities during the rise of Hollywood’s star system. The American Mutoscope Company’s The Haverstraw Tunnel was one of the most popular screenings of 1897, inspiring ecstatic rhetoric in descriptions of the experience of watching the original “phantom ride” train film. Historians appropriated such language (“an unseen energy swallows up space”) to theorize about early cinema. Yet until 2020, this significant production was difficult to see. The one-minute recording was shot and projected on large-format 68mm film stock, producing a high-resolution image as seen from the front of an express train traveling along the Hudson River. Creative Translation for Real-World Contexts is one of the first translation textbooks designed for Spanish/English speakers at an intermediate-high (B2) level. This book introduces students to the basic ideas of translation while addressing frequent pain points that recur when working bidirectionally. Additionally, a focus is placed on fostering metacognitive skills by encouraging creative translation from real-world environments such as narration, business, advertising, specialized contexts (including inclusive and queer language), and in situations when there are no clear translations available, such as sci-fi and fantasy works.
