Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the possible associated with depression, anxiety, stress, and owning cats and dogs in Türkiye. Additionally, the potential impact of personality traits on this relationship was examined. This study included 636 participants, of whom 52% were female (Mage = 33.02, SD = 15.78). Data was obtained by using a DASS-21 and the Big Five Personality Inventory. The findings revealed that owning cats and dogs was a promotive factor against depression (DE) …
Improving Obstetric Nursing Competency And Confidence In Shoulder Dystocia Emergencies Using High-Fidelity Simulation, Crystal M. Catron
Improving Obstetric Nursing Competency And Confidence In Shoulder Dystocia Emergencies Using High-Fidelity Simulation, Crystal M. Catron
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Shoulder dystocia is a rare obstetric emergency that can lead to severe maternal and neonatal complications. Obstetric nurses play a critical role in assisting in the specific nursing interventions that aid in the safe delivery of shoulder dystocia emergencies. However, due to this low-volume, high-risk occurrence many nurses lack the confidence and competence required during this obstetric emergency. High-fidelity simulation training can mimic a real-life shoulder dystocia emergency without any risk factors. High-fidelity simulation can allow nurses to practice the critical nursing interventions that are required to safely deliver the infant in a safe risk-free environment. This Doctorate in Nursing …

Reducing Aggressive Behavior In Long-Term Care By Improving Knowledge And Confidence, Jennifer Jo White
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Verbal and physical abuse in long-term care facilities has significantly increased due to the addition of middle-aged adults and elderly residents with dementia-induced behaviors. Aggressive behaviors must be managed with effective de-escalation techniques to reduce behaviors turning violent. Caregivers are not properly educated utilizing a robust training program leaving them with a lack of knowledge and confidence to manage aggression. This project aimed to implement an evidence-based guideline tool that equips the clinical staff with de-escalation techniques to effectively manage residents with aggressive behaviors by decreasing incident reports filed due to behavioral events. A review and synthesis of the literature …

Initial Physical Health Screenings For Children In Foster Care, Stephanie D. Mondelli
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Access to healthcare or medical services is a basic human right. Children in the foster care system often face barriers in accessing medical services and continuity of care. These children have lost their biological families who would typically advocate for their healthcare needs. Foster care presents a whole set of new challenges for children, biological families, and foster parents. Child protective services has over 8,000 children in foster care at any given time. Navigating the healthcare system is convoluted but adding the additional stress of foster care on top of navigating the healthcare system can be quite cumbersome. Child protective …

Integrating Body Dysmorphic Disorder Screening Into Aesthetic Medicine Clinics, Michelle Andrus
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
As rates of elective cosmetic and dermatological procedures increase, it remains imperative for
aesthetic medicine providers to adequately screen potential patients for body dysmorphic
disorder (BDD). A psychiatric disorder, BDD presents when persons perceive flaws that are not
apparent to others, perform repetitive actions to examine and groom themselves which hinders
daily living activities, and require constant reassurance regarding their appearance. Literature
notes those with BDD seek elective cosmetic surgery at higher rates than the general population
resulting in poor satisfaction and outcomes. Cosmetic Procedure Screening (COPS) is a validated
screening tool for BDD and this quality improvement project sought …

Two-dimensional, 2D, niobium carbide MXene, Nb2CTx, has attracted attention due to its extraordinarily high photothermal conversion efficiency that has applications ranging from medicine, for tumor ablation, to solar energy conversion. Here, we characterize its electronic properties and investigate the ultrafast dynamics of its photoexcitations with a goal of shedding light onto the origins of its unique properties. Through density functional theory, DFT, calculations, we find that Nb2CTx is metallic, with a small but finite density of states at the Fermi level for all experimentally relevant terminations of Nb2CTx that can be achieved using HF or molten salt etching of the …

Significance: Wounds of all types remain one of the most important, expensive, and common medical problems, for example, up to approximately two-thirds of the work time of community nurses is spent on wound management. Many wounds are treated by means of dressings. The materials used in a dressing, their microarchitecture, and how they are composed and constructed form the basis for the laboratory and clinical performances of any advanced dressing.
Recent Advances: The established structure/function principle in material science is reviewed and analyzed in this article in the context of wound dressings. This principle states that the microstructure determines the …

Background: Smith Magenis Syndrome (SMS) is a rare genetic disorder caused by RAI1 haploinsufficiency. Obesity in people with SMS is believed partially due to dysfunction of the proximal melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R) pathway. We therefore studied effects of treatment with the MC4R agonist setmelanotide on obesity and hunger, as well as metabolic, cardiac and safety, in individuals with SMS.
Methods: People with SMS received once-daily setmelanotide injections, with the dose titrated bi-weekly to a maximum of 3 mg over ∼1 month; and a full-dose treatment duration of 3mo. The primary outcome was percent change in body weight. Secondary outcomes included …

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI)-based computer perception technologies (e.g., digital phenotyping and affective computing) promise to transform clinical approaches to personalized care in psychiatry and beyond by offering more objective measures of emotional states and behavior, enabling precision treatment, diagnosis, and symptom monitoring. At the same time, passive and continuous nature by which they often collect data from patients in non-clinical settings raises ethical issues related to privacy and self-determination. Little is known about how such concerns may be exacerbated by the integration of neural data, as parallel advances in computer perception, AI, and neurotechnology enable new insights into subjective states. …

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a common forerunner of neurodegeneration and accompanying dementia, including Alzheimer's Disease (AD), yet the mechanisms underlying this comorbidity remain unresolved. Individuals of Mexican descent living in South Texas have increased prevalence of comorbid T2D and early onset AD, despite low incidence of the APOE-ε4 risk variant among the population and an absence of a similar predisposition among relatives residing in Mexico - suggesting a role for environmental factors in coincident T2D and AD susceptibility. We therefore sought to test if differences in gut community structure could be observed in this population prior to any AD …

Introduction: Persistent Tic Disorders such as Tourette Syndrome are common neurodevelopmental disorders that are highly stigmatized. Many individuals with Persistent Tic Disorders experience peer rejection, loneliness, and self-stigma. Experiencing stigmatization during childhood can influence the persistence of moderate-to-severe tics later in life. Additionally, these factors have been associated with increased suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and psychiatric symptom severity. There is a need for interventions to reduce stigma and stigmatization in Persistent Tic Disorders. Before developing cost-effective interventions to mitigate stigma's profound downstream health impacts, a reliable measure of stigmatization must be created. The overarching goal of this research is to …

Polygenic embryo screening ("PES") analyzes embryos for hundreds or thousands of genomic loci to generate risk scores that estimate genetic susceptibility to conditions and traits compared to the general population. The technology is commercially marketed directly to consumers. Companies focus mostly on medical conditions, sometimes in ways that oversell its advantages and efficacy, encouraging fertility patients to "choose your healthiest embryo" and "protect your future child from genetic risks." The advertising of PES trades on norms of children's health and good parenting and reinforces those normative ideals. While it is easy to assume PES will be constrained in practice by …

Klippel-Feil syndrome, characterized by congenital fusion of any 2 or more cervical vertebrae, is a rare disorder in which skeletal and other organ system-related abnormalities have been reported. This article reports a case of mitral valve regurgitation in a patient with Klippel-Feil syndrome and related thoracic deformity who underwent mitral valvuloplasty. Postoperatively, the mitral valve regurgitation disappeared, and there has been no recurrence for 3 years. This case highlights mitral valvuloplasty via median sternotomy as an excellent treatment for mitral valve regurgitation in a patient with thoracic deformity related to Klippel-Feil syndrome.

Vehicle weaving describes the vehicle lane changes in areas between consecutive merge and diverge ramp junctions. During heavy traffic, vehicle weaving will slow down traffic, cause congestion, and increase the possibility of crashes. It is desirable to automatically capture the weaving information using camera videos in the weaving areas. The currently existing weaving area analysis is very tedious and labor-intensive. This report describes a novel system that uses the videos simultaneously captured at the entry and exit of the weaving area to find the number and percentage of vehicles from each lane on the entry to each lane on the …

Traffic Incident Management (TIM) is a FHWA Every Day Counts initiative with the objective of reducing secondary crashes, improving travel reliability, and ensuring the safety of responders. Agency roadside cameras play a critical role in TIM by helping dispatchers quickly identify the precise location of incidents when receiving reports from motorists with varying levels of spatial accuracy. Reconciling position reports that are often mile-marker based with cameras that operate in a Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) coordinate system relies on dispatchers having detailed knowledge of hundreds of cameras and perhaps some presets. During real-time incident dispatching, reducing the time it takes to identify …

Understanding the air void content in concrete is crucial since it significantly influences the durability and strength of the material, especially in environments susceptible to freeze-thaw cycles. This report introduces an advanced nondestructive testing (NDT) method for the in-situ detection of air voids in concrete by employing diffusive ultrasound. Focusing on the ultrasound attenuation coefficient, this research established a strong correlation with key air void metrics, including the volumetric ratio and spacing factor, as outlined in ASTM C457. The study also undertook a comparative analysis of ASTM C457 methods B and C, revealing the instrument-dependent variability in measuring air voids. …
