The frequency and extent of environmental elemental mercury exposures in the U.S. are unknown. Due to its marked toxicity, elemental mercury has been phased out of many newer commercial products. However, mercury-containing products are still available, and a variety of religious, cultural, decorative, cosmetic, and illicit uses have been reported in the community. Small quantities of mercury can be highly toxic, and mercury toxicity can present nonspecifically and multi-systemically with the potential to be easily missed. Biomarker Profiles And Treatment Patterns In Patients With Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Real-World Database Analysis, Zijian Niu

Background: With the rapidly evolving treatment options for patients with advance-staged Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) offers systematic guidelines on treatment choices based on biomarker profiles and adjunctive information as the reference. This study aim to understand how patient’s biomarker profiles influence the receipt of Guideline-Concordant Treatments (GCTs) and exploring potential prognostic factors that exert such positive impacts on receiving these guideline-concordant therapies.Methods: This retrospective study focused on using the Flatiron Health NSCLC deidentified database, targeting at advanced NSCLC patients with 5 main confirmed actionable biomarker (ALK+, EGFR+, PD-L1 <1%, PD-L1 1%-49%, PD-L1 ≥50%). Patients with five main biomarkers were further described by whether they have undergone first lines of treatment (LOT) GCTs post-confirmation of biomarker status exclusively. Descriptive analysis was used to examine of the frequency distribution of GCTs across out cohort, while the multi-variate logistic regression model was used to identify potential prognostic factors influencing the receipt of NCCN GCTs. Results: 15,221 individuals were aligned with GCTs, underscoring a substantial compliance within the cohort with pre-treatment confirmed biomarker profiles. Descriptive analyses revealed a statistically significant correlation with receiving GCTs across gender, ECOG status, biomarker profiles, histology and smoking history. Strikingly, patients with PD-L1 expression and ECOG status of 2-4 had the highest rates of GCTs than other ECOG subgroups. By adjusting ORs, Asian and patients with PD-L1 expression were more predisposed to receive GCTs. Conclusion: By confirming the importance of biomarker profiles and ECOG status in the receipt of GCTs, results highlighted the necessity of addressing disparities in healthcare accessibility and treatment equity for patients from varied biological and social backgrounds, ensuring that advancements in precision medicine benefit all individuals equally.

Objective: The etiology of hepatoblastoma, the predominant malignant liver tumor in infancy and early childhood, is unclear. We assessed possible associations between birth characteristics, outdoor artificial light at night (ALAN), ambient air pollution (measured by particulate matter PM2.5), and the risk of hepatoblastoma.

Methods: Leveraging a population-based linkage of statewide birth records and cancer registry data in California, we conducted a case-control study that included 356 hepatoblastoma cases diagnosed at the age of 0-6 years during 1988-2015 and 17,800 controls frequency-matched by birth year. Background: The Hormones and Physical Exercise (HOPE) study demonstrated efficacy of exercise in reducing AI-associated arthralgia in breast cancer survivors. Yet, the underlying mechanism for this relationship remains unclear. Prior research among breast cancer survivors highlights improvements in metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers related to exercise. This secondary analysis of HOPE examined the potential role of metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers in mediating the effect of exercise vs. usual care on AI-associated arthralgia.

Implemented in 1979, the OCP reshaped family dynamics. It potentially influences aging perceptions among the elderly. Utilizing the stereotype embodiment theory, this research assesses if deep-rooted cultural attitudes towards aging could mitigate the psychological effects of these demographic changes. Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” Law, officially part of the Parental Rights in Education Act, came into force in 2022. As amended in 2023, this law prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity for children in pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade, and forbids any instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity that is not “age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate” for children in any grade.

Social connection has been identified as a public health priority, and is often positioned, in various forms, as an outcome of leisure experiences. In cases of assessing the hedonic quality of experiences, research has identified a relative permanence and stability in the remembering self; however, whether the same is true when measuring social connection is unknown. State-of-the-art pediatric exoskeletons are typically clinic-based since they are either tethered or portable but cumbersome, and their design is often not optimized across a range of environments and users. This study examined social determinants in individuals diagnosed with psychotic disorders in a large, diverse, sample from the NIH-sponsored All of Us Research Program. Participants completed self-report measures of loneliness, perceived stress, everyday discrimination, and neighborhood social cohesion. Analyses showed that individuals with a diagnosis of a psychotic disorder experience significantly more feelings of loneliness, stress, everyday discrimination, and poorer neighborhood social cohesion compared to individuals without any diagnosis of a mental disorder as well as compared to individuals who may have other mental disorders other than psychosis. There is a dearth of literature on psychotherapy and menstruation, except for the treatment and diagnosis of issues associated with premenstrual distress. This study aimed to bridge this gap by investigating the frequency and context of discussions about the menstrual cycle, the factors influencing therapists’ engagement with this topic, and the therapeutic approaches utilized to address the menstrual cycle within psychotherapy.

In phase 1, 118 psychotherapists from various theoretical backgrounds completed a survey on menstruation in clinical practice. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Therapist self-disclosure (TSD) is a controversial clinical intervention whose benefits and drawbacks remain contested. Notably, no prior research has differentiated explicitly between self-disclosures related to the therapist’s core identities and those peripheral to identity, and qualitative studies suggest that identity-focused therapist self-disclosure (TSD-I) may be beneficial when therapist and patient share at least one marginalized identity. LGBTQ+ people, who experience significant health disparities and utilize psychotherapy more than their heterosexual and cisgender counterparts, could benefit particularly from TSD-I. Stroke is caused by ischemia, where occlusion of blood supply to the brain results in neurodegeneration. Most of the damage is attributed to excitotoxicity, where an accumulation of the neurotransmitter glutamate in the synapse overstimulates postsynaptic neurons and ultimately leads to cell death (largely by necrosis). B cells excise and recombine the immunoglobulin heavy chain gene locus during class switch recombination (CSR). CSR is mediated by activation induced cytidine deaminase (AID) and results in a new immunoglobulin isotype that B cells will secrete and present. AID produces mutations that convert cytosines to uracils within the intronic switch regions that precede and follow the target immunoglobulin isotype coding sequence. To resolve the mutations, B cells conduct either base excision repair (BER) or mismatch repair (MMR). Inactivating genetic mutations in BER or MMR reduce CSR. Briefly, the following report details a synthetic route to prepare 5-phenyl-2’-deoxycytidine analogues. This multistep synthesis began with silyl protection of the 3’- and 5’-hydroxyl groups of 5-iodo-2’-deoxyuridine. Next, the installation of a phenyl ring at the C5 position of the nucleobase via a Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction, yielding 5-phenyl-2’-deoxyuridine (5-PdU). After that, modification of the obtained 5-PdU at the C4 position was performed with benzotriazole-1-yl-oxy-tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphonium hexafluorophosphate (BOP, a peptide-coupling agent) and a base (cesium carbonate) to activate the amide group of the uridine nucleobase for subsequent displacement with a variety of amines. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated systemic racial inequities among Black and Latiné communities, increasing daily stressors such as exposure to violence, racial discrimination, and negative perceptions of the police. Social constraints from quarantining and social distancing have weakened community relationships that previously provided relief from these stressors. Persistent poverty and racial discrimination further strain community ties and challenge the well-being of marginalized communities.
