Meningioma Relational Database Curation Using A Pacs-Integrated Tool For Collection Of Clinical And Imaging Features, Ryan Mclean
Meningioma Relational Database Curation Using A Pacs-Integrated Tool For Collection Of Clinical And Imaging Features, Ryan Mclean
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial neoplasm seen in adults, and despite the largely benign nature of these tumors, they are associated with significant morbidity and mortality1. Physicians specialized in CNS pathologies, such as neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, and neuro-oncologists rely on multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) for diagnosis, guidance of management, and response to therapy of CNS lesions. Today, in the era of artificial intelligence, with high-throughput computing and accessibility to massive amounts of data, we see the emergence of new fields in translational science. Proteomics, genomics, metabolomics, and more recently, radiomics are quantitative and analytical fields that are driven by the …

Permanent Pacemaker Implantation After Tricuspid Valve Repair Surgery, Alyssa Morrison
Permanent Pacemaker Implantation After Tricuspid Valve Repair Surgery, Alyssa Morrison
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Recent studies suggest that permanent pacemaker implantation after tricuspid valve repair may be more common than previously thought. Our primary aim was to assess the rates of early (within 30 days of surgery) and late (more than 30 days after surgery) permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) after tricuspid valve repair (TVr) surgery. Our secondary aims included exploring risk factors for PPI after TVr and assessing outcomes.
We performed a retrospective analysis of 231 isolated and concomitant tricuspid valve repairs for primary and secondary tricuspid valve regurgitation at a single quaternary academic center performed from 2014–2022.
Early pacemaker implantation was performed in …
Maternal And Donor Human Milk Support Robust Intestinal Epithelial Growth And Differentiation In A Fetal Intestinal Organoid Model, Lauren Smith
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a severe gastrointestinal complication of prematurity. Using small intestinal organoids derived from fetal tissue of a gestational age similar to an extremely preterm infant, this study aims to assess the effect of diet on intestinal epithelial growth and differentiation to elucidate the role nutrition type plays in intestinal development and modifies the risk for NEC.
Organoids were cultured for 5 days in organoid growth media and 5 days in organoid differentiation media supplemented 1:40 with four different diet conditions: maternal milk (MM), donor human milk (DHM), standard formula (SF), or extensively hydrolyzed formula (HF). 4x images …

Transpersonal Approaches To Clinical Supervision, Harris L. Friedman
Transpersonal Approaches To Clinical Supervision, Harris L. Friedman
International Journal of Transpersonal Studies
Transpersonal psychology can provide unique approaches to clinical supervision by offering an interconnected self-expansive view of the self across time and space, as well as can provide a secular avenue to consider the importance of spirituality without relying on supernatural assumptions. Transpersonal supervisors can challenge conventional notions about what and how supervisees know, and even the nature of being a knower, through providing a more inclusive, perhaps even holistic, vantage that is both critical of mainstream approaches and surpasses their ability to provide a coherent “super” (i.e., going beyond the usual more-myopic understandings) vision. Background on transpersonal psychology related to …
Decoding Babel: “Ungrieved Futility” And The Unrecognized Order Of The Depression Research Field, Marty Lynn Cooper
Decoding Babel: “Ungrieved Futility” And The Unrecognized Order Of The Depression Research Field, Marty Lynn Cooper
International Journal of Transpersonal Studies
The field of depression research and theory is a preparadigmatic potpourri of different orientations without a central, consensus definition of depression. This study attempted to address these issues by investigating the depression sub-literatures (cognitive–behavioral, psychoanalytic, evolutionary, biomedical, phenomenological, existential–humanistic, cybernetic, environmental, and religious–spiritual theories) using a comparative analytic methodology, which allows for comparing disparate fields that do not share a common definitional set by relating them to a third concept, in this study the construct of “ungrieved futility” (UF) as a dynamic model of depression. UF defines the objective and/or subjective experience of the permanent loss of an …
Dreams, Synchrony, And Synchronicity, Terry Marks-Tarlow
Dreams, Synchrony, And Synchronicity, Terry Marks-Tarlow
International Journal of Transpersonal Studies
This essay presents the dreams of a long-term patient over the course of treatment in order to explore the transpersonal potential of the relational unconscious—those open channels of unconscious communication between people. At a key moment, the patient brings in the therapist’s own childhood dream, serving to break a period of impasse and reset the therapy. Dreams and their interpretation reveal the essence of fractal consciousness, by which a sliver of experience can shed light on the whole of the psyche. A fractal model of understanding suggests open boundaries between self/other and self/world at multiple levels. The deep intimacy of …
The Cascading Effect Of Adverse Childhood Experiences And The Urgency For A Trauma-Informed Approach, Whitney Lovett
The Cascading Effect Of Adverse Childhood Experiences And The Urgency For A Trauma-Informed Approach, Whitney Lovett
Integrated Studies
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) refer to any traumatic event from birth to 18 years of age that can have negative effects to a child’s development and health. Any form of abuse, neglect, or household dysfunction constitutes an adverse childhood experience initiating immediate and long-term outcomes. Reoccurring and prolonged exposures to adversity can turn into toxic stress. These experiences take a toll on children’s brain development, growth, immune and other regulatory systems, learning, behavior, and genetic outcomes. Although ACEs are common, some populations may be more susceptible to adversities. Families who have limited economic advantages and histories of ACEs, racism, and …

Elucidation Of Gene Regulation That Allow Salmonella Enterica To Survive In Low Magnesium Condition S, Fiona Lindsay-Olivera, Brooke Burris, James Slauch
MICRO-CCS student projects
Background
- The increased virulence of Salmonella enterica in extraintestinal infections has been attributed to its ability survive and replicate in macrophage phagosome.
- Salmonella can adapt to low pH and low Mg2+ conditions encountered in the phagosome. 1
- To counteract the low magnesium conditions in the macrophage phagosome and ensure viability, intracellular polyamine (PA) production is critical. 1
- Salmonella can synthesize putrescine in addition to other polyamines.

Reduced Iron As An Indicator Of Nitrous Oxide Production, Gabrielle Jackson, William Eddy Iii, Wendy H. Yang
Reduced Iron As An Indicator Of Nitrous Oxide Production, Gabrielle Jackson, William Eddy Iii, Wendy H. Yang
MICRO-CCS student projects
Introduction
- Nitrous oxide (N2O) is an important greenhouse gas, accounting for 6% of net radiative forcing2
- Cropland nitrous oxide emissions primarily result from denitrification, an anerobic process3
- Iron redox status could be a useful proxy for soil microsite anoxia, and thus might be useful predictor of denitrificationdriven soil N2O emissions4

Detecting Interactions Between Mps3 In Linc Complex And Ndj1 In Nuclear Pore Complex In Mechanically Stressed Yeast, Dean Boecher, Rebecca Adams
[Archive] Belmont University Research Symposium (BURS)
The mechanisms of how mechanical stress is translated into cellular action and structural reorganization within the nuclear envelope are largely unexplored. The Linker of Nucleoskeleton and Cytoskeleton (LINC) complex is a transmembrane protein complex that connects the actin cytoskeleton to the lamin nucleoskeleton, enabling mechanical forces to be translated between the cytoplasm and the nucleus. A better understanding of the translation of physical forces into cell responses can be gained through confirming the existence of interactions between LINC complex proteins and nuclear pore complexes (NPCs), which control the exchange of biochemical signals and macromolecules in and out of the nucleus …

In Vitro Phenotypes Of Pythium Isolates Are Correlated With Disease Symptoms In The Greenhouse, Kimberly Hagemann, Santiago Mideros, Harrison Hall
MICRO-CCS student projects
Oomycetes are eukaryotic microbes that are pathogenic to plants and animals. Pythiaceae is a family of oomycetes that can infect a variety of hosts causing Pythium Root Rot. Phenotypic differences between isolates of the same species may indicate aggressiveness. These isolates were used in in vitro plate experiments, growth rates, and in oogonia counts. In planta these isolates were used to infect maize from line B73.
Hypotheses:
- There is phenotypic diversity across different isolates of oomycetes within the same species when grown on different media.
- Some phenotypes are correlated with increased disease severity or aggressiveness in maize.

Action And Acting At Biograph Studio, 1908-1912, Daria Khitrova, Yuri Tsivian
The Journal of e-Media Studies
The study explores the evolution of acting vis-à-vis narrative techniques during D.W. Griffith’s tenure as director-cum-supervisor at the Biograph studio from the 1908 through 1913. The authors explore the Biograph output from two complementary perspectives: as it comes down to us in extant paper prints, and as it emerged in the mirror of contemporary film lore. Who should be in control of narrative unfolding—film players of film editors? To figure this out, contemporary observers used metric data gathered while watching films—as do the study’s authors armed by state-of-the-art digital tool of film studies known as cinemetrics.

Mercury Content In The Baleen Plates Of Rorqual Whales, David L. Taylor, Ava Cieplinkski, Max Ajemian, Matthew Savoca
Student Research Symposium
Mercury is a persistent environmental contaminant posing significant risks to wildlife health due to its propensity for bioaccumulation in organismal tissues. This study investigated total mercury concentrations in the baleen plates of rorqual whales (Family Balaenopteridae), specifically the Fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus), Blue whale (B. musculus), and Rice’s whale (B. ricei). Archived baleen samples were sourced from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and analyzed for total mercury (Hg) content (ppm dry weight) using atomic absorption spectroscopy. Male Fin and Blue whales from the Antarctic, South Pacific region (1947-1948), with body lengths ranging from 21 to 24 m, exhibited …

Theory suggests that animals make hierarchical, multiscale resource selection decisions to address the hierarchy of factors limiting their fitness. Ecologists have developed tools to link population-level resource selection across scales; yet, theoretical expectations about the relationship between coarse-and fine-scale selection decisions at the individual level remain elusive despite their importance to fitness. With GPS-telemetry data collected across California, USA, we evaluated resource selection of mountain lions (Puma concolor; n = 244) relative to spatial variation in human-caused mortality risk. With hierarchical resource selection, coarse-scale selection determines availability at finer scales. This simple relationship allowed us to demonstrate that …

Artificial Intelligence Models May Not Have Owners, Devin Owens
Artificial Intelligence Models May Not Have Owners, Devin Owens
Akron Law Student Publications
While new artificial intelligence models see unprecedented investment, serious questions exist about the ownership of the models themselves under existing intellectual property structures. AI models, as compilations of information created largely autonomously by algorithms from sets of training data, may not be suited for the subject matter and inventorship/authorship requirements of traditional patent and copyright protection. The literature assumes that trade secrecy will protect AI models, which are largely kept secret on remote servers away from direct inspection by users, but model extraction attack methods known since 2016 are effective in copying any AI model that can be queried. This …
