Measuring Interprofessional Practice Skills In Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Students, Kelly Free Jackson Jan 2024

Measuring Interprofessional Practice Skills In Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Students, Kelly Free Jackson

Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations

Interprofessional practice has become a key component of health professions training programs in recent years as health care has shifted to a more team-based approach to patient care. Because of this, health professions training programs have been tasked with ensuring that students receive adequate training prior to graduation. In the field of speech-language pathology, limited research has shown the best practices in measuring the interprofessional practice skills of speech-language pathology graduate students. Such scant evidence warrants the need for further research on viable measurement tools for interprofessional practice skill development in speech-language pathology. This dissertation presents a three-phase project focusing …

Breakfast Skipping In College Students And Its Association With Eating Behaviors, Rebekah E. May

Honors Undergraduate Theses

Background: Breakfast is important in maintaining optimal diet quality and decreasing preventable diet-related disease later in life. Breakfast skipping is highly prevalent in the college population, potentially decreasing self-regulation and diet quality and increasing habits of overeating. However, specific eating styles and diet quality have yet to be studied in breakfast skippers.

Objective: To explore and compare the characteristics of eating style, self-regulation, and diet quality among college students between a day when breakfast is skipped and a day when breakfast is consumed.

Methodology: Undergraduate students (n=103) participating in this observational crossover study completed demographics, the Self-regulation of Eating Behavior …

Moving Beyond The Barriers: Understanding How Youth Development Professionals Advocate For Disability Inclusion Within Mentoring Programs, Genelle C. Thomas Jan 2024

Moving Beyond The Barriers: Understanding How Youth Development Professionals Advocate For Disability Inclusion Within Mentoring Programs, Genelle C. Thomas

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Despite the proven youth development benefits of mentoring programs, youth with disabilities are often excluded from these opportunities. Fortunately, training and certification programs exist to support organizations in improving disability inclusion strategies and practices. Despite these opportunities, organizations still regularly struggle with making meaningful changes in this area. Therefore, it is important to understand how graduates of these training and certification programs experience facilitators and barriers to disability inclusion, what advocacy strategies they leverage to address these barriers, and how they impact their organizations to become more inclusive of youth with disabilities. The purpose of this study was to further …

The Perceptions Of Black Women In Principalships On Navigating And Negotiating The Racial Contexts Of Their Equity-Focused Leadership: A Q Methodology Study, Easter M. Brown Jan 2024

The Perceptions Of Black Women In Principalships On Navigating And Negotiating The Racial Contexts Of Their Equity-Focused Leadership: A Q Methodology Study, Easter M. Brown

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

One consequence of the Brown v. Board of Education (1954) ruling regarding desegregation of American public schools has been the destabilization of Black educators’ legacy of school leadership (Tillman, 2004). The effects of these failures continues to be problematic in US public education. Students of color account for over half of all P-12 enrollments, in contrast to the disproportionate lack of diversity among its teaching and leadership rosters (Frankenberg, et al., 2019; NCES, 2018, 2022). The stagnant rate at which American schools have diversified principal leadership since Brown v. Board (1954) begs the question of how equipped schools are to …

Infusing Universal Design For Learning With Trauma-Informed Educational Practice: What Early Childhood Personnel Think And How They'll Pull It Off, Marlena L. Jenkins

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This research recruited ten early childhood personnel within a public elementary school and attempted to gain insight into their beliefs and attitudes directly related to the principles of universal design for learning and the tenets of trauma-informed educational practice. Through this qualitative study, the researcher posited the importance of explicit professional learning and a supportive and openly communicative school environment to support the implementation of a combined trauma-informed universal design for learning (Ti-UDL) framework. Such a model has implications not only impacting personnel and student relationships, but those occurring amongst school-wide personnel of all levels. This research employed multiple phases, …

Rhetorical (Re)Inscription Practices Among Black Intercollegiate Football Participants In The Era Of Name, Image And Likeness, Mikayla Beaudrie Jan 2024

Rhetorical (Re)Inscription Practices Among Black Intercollegiate Football Participants In The Era Of Name, Image And Likeness, Mikayla Beaudrie

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

When intercollegiate athletic participants were permitted the right to profit off of their name, image and likeness (NIL), the landscape of college sports was fundamentally changed. This qualitative explanatory case study investigated one consequence of that change: the discourse of amateurism. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has historically identified participants in the athletic programs it oversees with the word “student-athlete.” In the years since the word was first introduced, its meaning has generally been static. In short, the linguistic sign “student-athlete” has been signified in and by the discourse to reflect the amateur status of collegiate sport participants, emphasizing …

Product Elimination Decision And Its Impact On Consumers: The Special Case Of A Local Speedway, Mark Mitchell, Jacob Voegel, Michael Smith Jan 2024

Product Elimination Decision And Its Impact On Consumers: The Special Case Of A Local Speedway, Mark Mitchell, Jacob Voegel, Michael Smith

Atlantic Marketing Journal

After 60+ years of operation, Myrtle Beach Speedway was closed and the property sold. The new owners will redevelop the property for commercial and residential purposes. Businesses routinely eliminate products for a variety of reasons, including under-performance and/or a desire to redeploy those resources elsewhere. What is often overlooked is the impact on consumers. In addition to reducing fan access to racing, a closed race track removes a racing opportunity for aspiring race car drivers and crew members. It can also mean shuttering tracks that once had historical significance. The history of raceway closures in the Myrtle Beach, SC area …

Exploring Sustainable Initiatives, Innovations, And Challenges In Sports Sustainability : A Case Study Of The Olympic Games, Suwanna Silpaarcha

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The progress of sustainability in sports mega-events have been more prominent than ever due to its substantial impact on society, the economy, and the environment. The Olympic Games’ immense magnitude has sparked apprehensions regarding their ecological and societal ramifications—increased energy usage and waste, transportation demands, new infrastructural constructions—which all have significant impacts on the environment and carbon emissions. Because of this, the IOC, host cities, and related sports authorities are constantly evolving and seeking innovative solutions towards sustainability while overcoming challenges faced. Given the importance of sustainable development in sports, this study examines sustainable approaches and solutions adopted by the …

Our Right To Play: How Afghan Women Navigate Constraints, Agency, And Aspirations On And Off The Soccer Field, Ramón Spaaij, Aish Ravi, Jonathan Magee, Ruth Jeanes, Dawn Penney, Justen O’Connor

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

In the wake of the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan and its ban on women’s sport, hundreds of Afghan athletes, including several Olympians, decided to flee the country rather than give up their sports and see their rights curtailed. This paper explores how Afghan women now living in Australia navigate agency and aspirations on and off the soccer field within the context of high levels of uncertainty, instability, and constraint. Drawing on qualitative interviews with 18 participants, the results demonstrate how soccer offers an insightful microcosm of settlement as a continuation of a fraught journey. The findings reveal both …

Showcasing Leximancer In Tourism And Hospitality Research: A Review Of Leximancer-Based Research Published In Tourism And Hospitality Journals During 2014–2020, Edmund Goh, Violetta Wilk

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

This study showcases how the Leximancer program can be used to review Leximancer-based research published in tourism and hospitality journals during 2014-2020. Along with a Leximancer-generated concept map, a new tags' association visual analysis was also performed. This innovative method of analysis is a key contribution, as past Leximancer studies in hospitality and tourism have predominantly relied on thematic analysis only. An Insight Dashboard report that is based on Bayesian algebra algorithm in calculating Prominence Scores (PS) for key concepts and compound concepts emergent from the data, supplemented the visual analyses. Thirty-three (33) tourism and three (3) hospitality papers were …

The Portrayals Of Trans Athlete Accomplishments In Newspapers, Sierra L. Davidson

Honors College Theses

The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between events related to trans athletes and their portrayal in the media. This research project focuses on the accomplishment of one trans athlete, Lia Thomas, winning a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 swimming championship in 2022. Articles from three newspapers of differing biases: The Washington Post, USA Today, and Washington Examiner, and one local newspaper of Thomas’ competing state, Philadelphia Daily News, were used in this analysis. Emerging themes were identified and codes were developed. These recurring themes and codes revealed differences in how newspapers reported on this …

Advancing A Systems Perspective On Innovative Behavior, Stephen Demski Jan 2024

Advancing A Systems Perspective On Innovative Behavior, Stephen Demski

Doctoral Dissertations

"Engineering organizations pursue innovation in strategy, structure, processes, and the services and products offered to remain relevant and competitive. Identifying factors supporting or constraining innovative work behavior and recognizing the complexity of their interactions are vital to sustaining an innovative workforce, yet how factors interact has not been comprehensively studied.

Recognizing innovative work behavior as the output of a complex system of factors guided this study’s literature search that identified over one hundred individual, team, and organizational factors influencing innovative behavior, interviews of engineers to learn what factors are essential in their work environment, and Delphi survey to rank factors, …

Extending Athlete Reputational Crises: Theorizing Underperformance Crises And The Flip Appeal, Lillian B. Feder, Diana Zulli Jan 2024

Extending Athlete Reputational Crises: Theorizing Underperformance Crises And The Flip Appeal, Lillian B. Feder, Diana Zulli

College of Communication Faculty Research and Publications

Crisis management scholarship recommends matching crisis response with crisis type to repair reputational damage. However, focusing on the corporate context has limited our understanding of crisis types and available responses. One crisis context yet to be extensively explored is sport/fan interactions online, an increasing site for athlete crises. This article addresses this gap, developing a theoretical framework for underperformance crises, where online publics perceive athletic underperformance as a norm violation that merits excessive hate toward athletes. Using the crisis case of basketball player E. J. Liddell, whose underperformance during a 2021 March Madness game resulted in widespread online harassment, we …
