How Passion Functions In Sport Applicant Attraction: A Biometric Approach, Jiayao Qi
How Passion Functions In Sport Applicant Attraction: A Biometric Approach, Jiayao Qi
Theses and Dissertations
Passion has been extensively researched from the perspective of athletes, entrepreneurs, and employees. In this dissertation, the researcher conducted an in-depth investigation of the way passion functions in sport job attraction. The two-stage experimental design combines the pioneer biometric methodology with qualitative inquiry, and 25 job seekers selected from a larger sample participated in the biometric lab. Results indicate that the interplay between cognitive and affective appraisals is critical in explaining sport job seekers’ highly individualistic and discriminative attraction toward work opportunities in sport. In particular, sports job seekers foster work passion through their multiple identifications with sport (playing history, …

Faith, Trust, And Pixie Dust: Understanding The Visions And Responsibilities Of The Varsity Esports Program Director, William Alan Fisackerly
Theses and Dissertations
The budding esports scene has drawn attention from higher education institutions in North America, who are growing community, competitive, and pedagogical esports initiatives. Varsity Esports Programs (VEPs) have proliferated since Robert Morris launched the first varsity program in 2014, with over 12,800 players from 650 institutions competing in the Spring 2023 National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) Starleague season alone (Butler University Set To Host NACE Starleague’s Spring 2023 Grand Finals, 2023). Despite this growth, little is known about the Varsity Esports Program (VEP), specifically from the perspective of the directors that oversee their operations. Previous work exploring the creation …

Measuring Branding Variables That Affect The Brand Choice Intention Toward Tourism Destinations In Thailand’S Eastern Coastal Region, Passarin Phalitnonkiat, James Vincent Johnson, Siwaporn Kunnapapdeelert
DLSU Business & Economics Review
A large number of tourists visit Thailand’s eastern coastal regions every year. Brand choice intention is one of the fundamental elements for developing marketing strategies. Therefore, the purposes of this study are to investigate the impact of five brand elements on destination brand loyalty and brand choice intention and to study the relationships among each construct of consumer brand perception by using EFA, CFA, and SEM. A sample of 830 Thai tourists returned paper-based surveys regarding their interests and perceived value. The study found four brand elements that significantly affect brand loyalty and brand choice intention, both directly and indirectly. …

Trust In Governance System (Tgs) In The Hotel Context: Scale Development And Validation, Swechchha Subedi
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to conceptualize trust in governance systems (TGS) within the hotel context, develop a scale to measure it, and validate its effects on hotel investment decisions. The study focused on the perspectives of hotel leadership which includes the owners, operators, and investors in the United States. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, exploratory sequential research design. Initially, the governance system within the hotel industry was conceptualized, and trust in governance was defined. The scale development phase involved generating items and dimensions through literature review, expert review, and pilot testing. The final scale included multiple dimensions …
How Organizational Structure And Power Dynamics Impact Decision Making—An Empirical Investigation Of General Manager Turnover In The National Basketball Association, Xiaoan Huang
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation examines the factors affecting GM dismissals in the NBA. Although there is limited consideration of executives in sport, scholars argue that GMs play a critical role within professional sport organizations, as they are generally involved in both business and on-field operations of the team. While there is some understanding of the impact that GMs have on organizational performance in sports, there is a lack of consideration of the tenure of executives and the factors that lead to turnover in these positions. As such, there is a critical need for further examination of GMs in sport. Following power theory …

Building Partnerships Through Third-Party Facilitation: Best Practices From The Community Collaborative Initiative, Shariq Siddiqui, Abdul Samad, Rafeel Wasif
Public Administration Faculty Publications and Presentations
Small minority group organisations rarely collaborate with other nonprofits owing to a lack of expertise and resources. Third-party facilitators can help these groups navigate the process of collaboration. However, the literature has largely ignored their role in the process. We address this gap by studying the challenges third-party facilitators face in the collaboration process and best practices they can apply using the Community Collaboration Initiative (CCI), a unique third-party-facilitated collaboration process working with Muslim American nonprofits.

Viability Of A Student-Athlete “Employee” Model And How It Will Lead To The Consequential Doom Of The Ncaa As We Know It, Kassidy Siedow
Viability Of A Student-Athlete “Employee” Model And How It Will Lead To The Consequential Doom Of The Ncaa As We Know It, Kassidy Siedow
Scholarly Horizons: University of Minnesota, Morris Undergraduate Journal
The term “student-athlete” was first used in the 1950s by the NCAA President at the time, Walter Buyers. This term asserted that “athletes are students that engage in extracurricular activities” (Poulin) rather than being considered “institutional employees performing a service for the university” (Poulin). Since then, the landscape of the NCAA has grown vastly and has seen many changes that have advanced the non-profit organization to become one of the biggest revenue-generating industries in entertainment. Due to the nature of the governing body and the bylaws of which it was founded seeing little change, the NCAA has been and continues …

The Impact Of Performance Management System On Learning & Development In Saudi Arabian, Moetaz Soubjaki
Al Jinan الجنان
There is potential need and importance to have performance management system in Saudi Arabia among the organizations since there is more than 20 million eligible workers in all organizations and sectors this concept makes many organizations in Saudi Arabia to ignore performance management and learning and development of employees. This ignorance limits many Saudi organizations from realizing their full performance potentials because many of these expatriate workers, for instance, lack good workplace communication due to lack of many necessary skills. Professional performance management systems can have a positive impact on employee development and enhance the overall performance of an organization. …

Intimate Data As Design Material: Designing Tracking Practices For Menstruating Athletes, Alina Wundsam, Alejandra Gomez Ortega, Nazli Cila
DRS Biennial Conference Series
There is a significant knowledge gap concerning the female body in sports partly due to research in sports physiology narrowly focusing on male athletes. It means hormonal changes around the menstrual cycle have been disregarded from critical considerations and recommendations about training and planning. Similarly, digital tracking technologies, which play an increasingly important role in sports, often overlook the menstrual cycle or invite athletes to reduce a situated and embodied experience into a discrete data point. In this paper, we use intimate data as material to design tracking practices for menstruating athletes. Specifically, we use the principles of Data Feminism …

L-Citrulline Supplementation Improves Arterial Blood Flow And Muscle Oxygenation During Handgrip Exercise In Hypertensive Postmenopausal Women, Yejin Kang, Katherine N Dillon, Mauricio A Martinez, Arun Maharaj, Stephen M Fischer, Arturo Figueroa
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Endothelial dysfunction decreases exercise limb blood flow (BF) and muscle oxygenation. Acute L-Citrulline supplementation (CIT) improves muscle tissue oxygen saturation index (TSI) and deoxygenated hemoglobin (HHb) during exercise. Although CIT improves endothelial function (flow-mediated dilation [FMD]) in hypertensive women, the impact of CIT on exercise BF and muscle oxygenation (TSI) and extraction (HHb) are unknown. We examined the effects of CIT (10 g/day) and a placebo for 4 weeks on blood pressure (BP), arterial vasodilation (FMD, BF, and vascular conductance [VC]), and forearm muscle oxygenation (TSI and HHb) at rest and during exercise in 22 hypertensive postmenopausal women. Compared to …

Poland At The Gates Of Euro 2012 - Global Sport Governance And The Limits Of The State's Autonomy, Piotr Szwedo
Denver Sports & Entertainment Law Journal
International football federations are composed of national associations that have an independent character from their governments. FIFA and UEFA actively defend the autonomy of national associations, including the use of far-reaching "punitive" measures. At the same time, international sports federations require the significant involvement of national governments in the preparation of football championships, which often becomes a crucial factor during the selection process of the championship's host states. Nevertheless, states that are highly affected by such decisions do not have at their disposal many effective tools of control. The existing model also raises questions regarding sovereignty and democratic legitimacy when …

The Legal Shift Of The Ncaa's Big 5 Member Conferences To Independent Athletic Associations: Combining Nfl And Conference Governance Principles To Maintain The Unique Product Of College Athletics, Connor J. Bush
Denver Sports & Entertainment Law Journal
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) can no longer effectively govern big-time intercollegiate athletics. Since the 1984 Board of Regents decision, college athletics has grown exponentially, yet the NCAA still attempts to govern over 1,000 colleges and universities under a single organization. The "Big 5" college athletic conferences (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC) have become more autonomous in recent years, independently negotiating lucrative media rights and post-season bowl agreements. Each conference has also adopted its own constitution and bylaws to effectively manage its unique product.
This Comment argues that the "Big 5" conferences should separate from the …

#Disgusted: Identifying Potential Sub-Factors Of Moral Disgust Through Reflexive Thematic Analysis Of Tweets, Ryan Statton, Alison Bacon, Jaysan Charlesford, Sylvia Terbeck
School of Psychology
Social media provides an untapped resource for exploring Moral Disgust. We therefore drew on ‘tweets’ about Moral Disgust (k=526) to better conceptualise the situations, people, and concepts users found Disgusting. Our Reflexive Thematic Analysis identified two themes and accompanying subthemes: Hierarchical Disgust and Third-Party Disgust. Hierarchical Disgust was constructed from expressions of Disgust directed to power structures, abuses of power, and leaders, whereas Third-Party Disgust comprised expressions directed at negative outcomes for others, often in the form of discrimination or harm. Both themes served as a form of group protection through out-group distancing and normative in-group policing. Importantly, this research …
