Gene Expression Changes In The Seagrass Cymodocea Nodosa Individuals In Response To Aquatic Acidification, Enes Göksal, Esra Öztürk Yi̇ği̇t
Turkish Journal of Botany
Human activities have caused a rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) levels, leading to greater absorption of CO2 by oceans and causing ocean acidification. This phenomenon, marked by a reduction in pH, represents substantial risks to marine ecosystems, including seagrass meadows. Seagrasses are vital elements of coastal ecosystems, performing important functions in carbon storage, stabilizing shorelines, and preserving biodiversity; however, reactions to ocean acidification are not well understood, especially in terms of molecular. This research study examined alterations in gene expression within seagrass meadows, namely the species Cymodocea nodosa, in reaction to simulated ocean acidification conditions. Climate chamber system to adjust …
Building Bridges An Inclusive Practices Toolkit To Empower Neurodivergent Adults In The Workplace, Gloria Saldana
Building Bridges An Inclusive Practices Toolkit To Empower Neurodivergent Adults In The Workplace, Gloria Saldana
Student Theses and Dissertations
In this toolkit, designed for managers of neurodivergent employees, we will dig into the complexities of neurodivergence, specifically of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This toolkit aims to promote inclusivity within the workplace. We need to bridge the gap in improving neurodivergence education by understanding characteristics and communication differences, identifying cues, stigma, and consequences of actions ( e.g., bullying). Prioritizing each person's needs allows neurodivergent individuals and employers to discover natural talents and thrive within a diverse society. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, managers will learn strategies for clear and concise communication, facilitating smoother collaboration, and initiating changes in the …

Cultivation Protocols For The Red Seaweeds, Devaleraea Mollis And Palmaria Hecatensis From Alaska, Muriel Dittrich
Marine Biology
Species diversification is crucial for the long-term viability, competitiveness, and sustainability of the seaweed farming industry in the United States. This study investigated the effects of temperature (4, 8 and 12 °C), photoperiod (8L:16D, 12L:12D and 16L:8D), and irradiance (20, 40, 100 ± 10 μmol photons m-2 s-1) on the specific growth rate (SGR) of Devaleraea mollis and Palmaria hecatensis from Alaska. Outputs were used to adjust indoor cultivation protocols for D. mollis and develop the first protocols for Palmaria hecatensis. This study also explored the use of two relatively low-cost commercial nutrient products (F/2 and Jack's Special 25-5-15) as …

Turkish Journal of Botany
The apple (Malus domestica [Suckow] Borkh) is economically and culturally significant worldwide, thriving in temperate regions. This study examined genetic variations among 52 apple accessions from three research centers in Kazakhstan using the iPBS-retrotransposons marker system. Out of 35 screened markers, 12 highly polymorphic markers were selected for PCR amplification, resulting in 280 bands, 279 of which were polymorphic, yielding a 99.64% polymorphism rate. Genetic diversity indices showed substantial variation: effective number of alleles (ne=1.655), Shannon's information index (I=0.373), gene diversity (h=0.549), and an average genetic distance of 1.2. The analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) indicated that 98.80% of the …
Navigating Displacement: Jewish-Brazilian Identity In Lasar Segall's Encontro, Kendall Evonne Da Silva
Navigating Displacement: Jewish-Brazilian Identity In Lasar Segall's Encontro, Kendall Evonne Da Silva
Theses and Dissertations
Jewish-Lithuanian artist Lasar Segall's 1924 painting Encontro has historically been interpreted as representing Segall's integration and assimilation into Brazilian society. This reading, however, generally overlooks Segall's experience as an Eastern European Jew living in Brazil during the early twentieth century. In this thesis, I examine the influence of Segall's ethnic background on his art and investigate how Segall appropriates pardo identity in Encontro, not unproblematically, in an effort to convey feelings of alienation and exclusion. Along with looking at his visual art, my analysis incorporates my translations of Segall's essays on Jewishness, which shed light on his relationship to Judaism …

Population Health Research Brief Series
Traffic fatalities are the among the leading causes of death in the United States. Motor vehicle crash death rates have declined overall in the U.S. in recent decades, but there is substantial variation in rates across the country. Due to climate change, exposure to pollen has increased in various parts of the U.S. The antihistamine response triggered by pollen can result in poor physical and cognitive symptoms, thus impacting an individual’s ability to drive and increasing the risk of motor vehicle fatalities. This brief summarizes findings from a study that used data from the National Allergy Bureau (NAB) Pollen and …

N-Methyl-D-Aspartate (Nmda) Receptors Control Calcium Signaling In Striatal Neurons To Guide Value-Based Learning, Alex Legaria Macal
N-Methyl-D-Aspartate (Nmda) Receptors Control Calcium Signaling In Striatal Neurons To Guide Value-Based Learning, Alex Legaria Macal
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDARs) play an essential role in neuronal function. Activation of NMDARs leads to calcium influx into postsynaptic neurons, which regu?late many fundamental aspects of neuronal physiology including synaptic plasticity, gene expression, and excitability. In the striatum, the input region of the basal ganglia, NM?DAR activity has been shown to regulate physiological function of striatal neurons, such as synaptic plasticity and excitability, and they also modulate behavior, particularly op?erant learning. However, there are many fundamental questions about the signaling and effects of NMDARs in vivo that have yet to be resolved. Moreover, the link between the physiological and behavioral …

Journal of Criminal Justice and Law
Several reform proposals have been pushed forward for the federal judiciary- namely the United States Supreme Court- in recent years, including term limits, changes in judicial selection, and qualification criteria. Such changes could ostensibly apply to all federal appellate judges as well. The purpose of this study is to determine if states can provide a roadmap for Supreme Court reform discussions. This study utilizes a state-level legal content analysis of all statutes pertaining to judicial selection and qualification criteria for appellate-level judges. Specifically, selection mechanisms, age limits, term limits, and qualifications for selection are examined. Whether state statutory schemes can …

Old, Not Odd: Running Laches Against The States And The Future Of Antitrust After New York V. Meta Platforms, Frank Schulze
Michigan Law Review
In New York v. Meta Platforms, Inc., the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit applied equitable laches to an antitrust lawsuit brought by forty-six state attorneys general, holding that they had not brought their claims in their role as law enforcers. Meta Platforms is the latest in a line of cases that has characterized antitrust actions by state attorneys general as non-public and non-governmental. But this characterization is in tension with the historical role of state attorneys general in enforcing the antitrust laws and undermines the original design of the federal antitrust statutes as supplements to …
Probate Standing, David Horton
Probate Standing, David Horton
Michigan Law Review
Few topics in civil justice have sparked as much criticism as the standing doctrine. The U.S. Constitution and some of its state counterparts require plaintiffs to allege that they suffered an “injury-in-fact” that the defendant caused and that a court can redress. A veritable ocean of commentary argues that this requirement [is confusing, ahistorical, and unmoored from its objectives.
Yet a different manifestation of the standing doctrine has long lurked in obscurity. Standing issues are also common in state probate courts, where the transmission of assets from the dead to the living can affect a variety of parties. But in …

Guidelines For Returning To Dance Following Concussion: Adaptations From Sport Concussion Literature, Sheyi Ojofeitimi, Lauren Mcintyre, Elizabeth Barchi, Sarah S. Rae, Brittney Winnitoy, Jeffrey A. Russell
Department of Family & Community Medicine Faculty Papers
Sport concussion receives substantial attention as a public health concern. Conversely, performing artists, including dancers, sustain concussions, but these aesthetic athletes do not receive the same level of consideration nor care for this injury as that offered to traditional athletes. The concussion literature pertaining to dance is sparse, and, to our knowledge, no recommendations exist for the crucial aspect of care related to returning to dance following a concussion. The purpose of this article is to assimilate the current knowledge about post-concussion return to activity management in sport—the closest analog of the physical demands required in dance—as a means to …

Good For Her: Catharsis And Empowerment In Contemporary Literature, Jessica Lynn Vaught
Good For Her: Catharsis And Empowerment In Contemporary Literature, Jessica Lynn Vaught
Online Theses and Dissertations
A recent trend in readership within online discourse communities is the emergence of the genre called “Good for Her,” which contains themes of transgression beyond traditional expectations of socially acceptable feminine behavior by situating revenge arcs to celebrate actions that otherwise would have been perceived as reprehensible. The emergence and popularity of the genre in the post-2016 sociopolitical climate in the United States reflects the demand for marginalized communities to see versions of themselves represented in texts in which the protagonist avenges herself in the face of patriarchal oppression. The genre stems from canonical literary tropes also created in the …
