Prosecutorial Data Transparency And Data Justice, Caitlin Glass, Kat M. Albrecht, Perry Moriearty
Northwestern University Law Review
The U.S. criminal legal system is notoriously racialized. Though Black and Latinx people make up less than 30% of U.S. residents, they constitute more than 50% of the nearly two million people currently in U.S. prisons and jails. For decades, research has indicated that one group of decision-makers has had an outsized influence on these numbers: prosecutors. From whom to charge to what sentences to recommend, no actor plays a greater role in determining who goes to prison in this country. Highly subjective and lacking in formal guidance and accountability, prosecutorial decisions are especially vulnerable to racial bias. They are …

Key Factors Influencing Job Satisfaction Among Academic Staff In The University, Victor Amadi Stephen
School of Rehabilitation Services & Counseling Faculty Publications
Job satisfaction (JS) undoubtedly impacts significantly on the productive capacity and general well-being of academic staff within universities. Poor JS affects not only individual performance but also broader institutional goals and may culminate in a decline in staff morale, disloyalty, constant labor migration and unending industrial actions by labor unions within the university. Enhancing job satisfaction can improve staff’s quality of service, staff retention, productivity, and the overall academic quality of the institutions. This study reviews factors associated with job satisfaction among academic staff in universities, and how these factors independently contribute to overall job satisfaction. This study draws on …

The John Jay College Research and Evaluation Center (REC) and the Urban Institute partnered with the National League of Cities to support five U.S. cities in reimagining public safety through the Municipalities Reimagining Community Safety (MRCS) initiative, funded by Wells Fargo. As the research lead, JohnJay REC conducted a three-wave survey to assess local stakeholder perceptions of public safety strategies, focusing on efficacy and equity. Findings provided insight into city-level approaches to crime prevention and community well-being, informing evaluations of MRCS’s impact across diverse urban contexts.

Ai-Powered Cyber Threats: A Systematic Review, Mafaz Alanezi, Ruah Mouad Alyas Al-Azzawi
Mesopotamian Journal of CyberSecurity
The joining of artificial intelligence (AI) across different areas has fundamentally improved productivity and development. Nevertheless, this progression has increased cybersecurity threats, especially those determined by AI itself. These AI-powered threats exploit the advancements intended to obtain computerized frameworks, in this manner subverting their honesty. This systematic review focuses on the intricacies of AI-driven cyber threats, which use complex AI abilities to lead to intricate and tricky cyberattacks. Our review integrates existing examinations to determine the extension, location procedures, effects, and relief systems connected with AI-initiated threats. We feature the powerful exchange between AI improvement and cybersecurity, underlining the requirement …
Critical Race Theory As Legal Epistemic Justice, Jasmine Gonzales Rose
Critical Race Theory As Legal Epistemic Justice, Jasmine Gonzales Rose
Faculty Scholarship
“Critical Thinking: Not Critical Race Theory” and “Teach Truth: Not CRT,” proclaimed the front and back of a T-shirt on a fellow traveler passing in the airport. I was startled by the blatant misconceptions. The core pursuits of critical race theory (“CRT”) are to think critically, discover truth, and diversify knowledge about race and racism. Although I was aware of then-President Trump’s executive order barring federal diversity training and bills modeled after it, nothing had prepared me for the realization that my academic subfield had become so widely criticized that it was now the subject of T-shirt slogans. A few …
Using Willingness-To-Pay Surveys When Assessing Dam Removal: A New Hampshire Case Study, Jo Beth Mullens, Veronica Wanstreet
Using Willingness-To-Pay Surveys When Assessing Dam Removal: A New Hampshire Case Study, Jo Beth Mullens, Veronica Wanstreet
The Geographical Bulletin
As dams in the United States age and become obsolete and river restoration emerges as a new priority, dam removals have increased . Feasibility studies serve to detail the costs and benefits of such proposed dam removals; however, most do not consider intangibles such as the benefits derived from reconnecting seasonal fish habitat or improving the biological diversity within a river . In this research, a willingness-to-pay survey was used to assign a monetary value to intangible goods associated with the proposed removal of an historic dam on the Ashuelot River in southwestern New Hampshire . Within the town where …
Precarious Refugee: Self-Optimization And Neoliberal Rationality In Rawi Hage’S Cockroach, Shahab Nadimi
Precarious Refugee: Self-Optimization And Neoliberal Rationality In Rawi Hage’S Cockroach, Shahab Nadimi
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In his article "Precarious Refugee: Self-Optimization and Neoliberal Rationality in Rawi Hage’s Cockroach," Shahab Nadimi examines Rawi Hage’s Cockroach as an example of refugee literature in the light of current debates about neoliberal biopolitics and the idea of a new form of life. Refugees, who are neither identified as citizens nor totally as strangers, are forced to compete in unequal circumstances of economic mobility with other citizens, often leaving them in a condition of personal debts, unemployment, and mental distress. Nadimi investigates Cockroach’s depiction of psychological breakdown, suicidal attempts, and metamorphosis as symptomatic of and critical to the neoliberal …

Indonesia relating to land issues. The meaning of public interest in land acquisition which is expected to be able to help realize justice, prosperity and welfare for the community turns out that in its implementation it actually causes conflict because it is not in accordance with the principles of balance and justice. The problems that the research tries to answer are: (1) What is meant by public interest according to the applicable laws and regulations? (2) How is the reconstruction of the meaning of public interest in land acquisition for development in the public interest based on the principles of …

Insider Threat: An Exploration Of Non-Homogeneity And Potential Cultural Influences On Shifting Threat Dynamics, Justin Mckinley Flint
Insider Threat: An Exploration Of Non-Homogeneity And Potential Cultural Influences On Shifting Threat Dynamics, Justin Mckinley Flint
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Changing dominant sociocultural perspectives within the United States have been accompanied by a documented rise in inside threat incidents that have clearly deviated from the previously recognized traditional threat motivations and models. The ability to mitigate associated risks depends heavily on understanding how shifting dynamics among insider threats manifest themselves. Mitigation considerations drive U.S. agencies and organizations’ need for accurate assessments or ability to measure the potential risks posed by inside threats to entities charged with maintaining sensitive information, systems, or materials. This work measured various shifting cultural perceptions currently observable among the dominant culture, especially in light of the …

Addressing Economic Drivers Of Health In The Clinic: The Role And Potential Of Medical-Financial Partnerships, Geoffrey Gusoff, Adam Schickedanz
Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk
Poverty and financial insecurity are major drivers of poor health outcomes, but health systems have traditionally lacked the tools to address these economic drivers of health. In recent years, an innovative clinical care model is starting to change that: Medical-Financial Partnerships (MFPs). Medical-Financial Partnerships are collaborations between health care systems and financial services providers. They connect patients to a variety of financial services including financial coaching, free tax preparation, and public benefits navigation. These services have been shown to significantly improve health and financial well-being. In addition, MFPs provide effective and welcome access points for under-utilized social service and anti-poverty …

Phosphorene As A Chemical Nanosensor For Volatile Organic Compound Vapours - A Dft Outlook, Saravanan S
Phosphorene As A Chemical Nanosensor For Volatile Organic Compound Vapours - A Dft Outlook, Saravanan S
Theses and Dissertations
Based on the density functional theory framework, the structural stability of phosphorene allotropes and its various nanostructures are ensured. The various allotropes of phosphorene and its nanostructures such as nanosheets, nanoribbon and nanotubes are used as adsorbing materials for various volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as alcohols, chloroform, amines and aldehydes. The results of adsorption energy are used to confirm physisorption or chemisorption of VOCs on phosphorene. In addition, the charge transfer outcome suggests whether phosphorene is acting as acceptor or donor of electrons upon interaction of target VOCs.
The electronic attributes such as band structure, projected density of states …

Elimination Of Cash Bail In Illinois: Accessing Risk Of Defendants Using Risk Assessment Tools, Zachary Vancil
Elimination Of Cash Bail In Illinois: Accessing Risk Of Defendants Using Risk Assessment Tools, Zachary Vancil
Southern Illinois University Law Journal
In recent years, Illinois through the SAFE-T Act moved to eliminate cash bail in its entirety, moving to a new form of pretrial detention. Under the SAFE-T Act, persons are either released (sometimes with conditions), or detained pending trial. This Note argues that Illinois should amend its current statutory framework to mandate the use of a risk assessment tool to help aid decisions about pretrial detention. In support of mandating a risk assessment tool, this Note analyzes pretrial detention schemes in New Jersey, New York, and Illinois. While New Jersey has achieved high appearance rates and has seen success in …

Donate Your Art And Keep It Too: How The Government Subsidizes Art Collections For The Rich And What Congress Can Do About It, Steven Rodgers
Donate Your Art And Keep It Too: How The Government Subsidizes Art Collections For The Rich And What Congress Can Do About It, Steven Rodgers
Southern Illinois University Law Journal
Wealthy art collectors have long sought tax breaks for “donations” of their art without having to turn over possession of the artwork. Congress has previously recognized these efforts and taken measures to remedy the apparent unfairness of allowing collectors to obtain a tax deduction while never giving up their art. More recently, collectors are opening up private museums in the form of tax-exempt organizations. Private museums allow an art collector to donate art to an entity that the collector both created and controls. This practice has recently been called into question because it allows for major tax deductions while often …

As-982-24 Resolution On The Proposed 14-Week Trimester Calendar And Year-Round Operations, Executive Committee
Academic Senate Resolutions
Resolves that the Academic Senate objects to the proposed 14-week term length, which is presented in the 2026-2027 Academic Calendar, because it implements symmetrical fall, winter, and spring term lengths that modify, without senate consultation and approval, the sixteen-week fall and spring semester term lengths and asymmetrical summer term in AS-942-22; and further resolves that the Academic Senate strongly encourages the administration to postpone the adoption of symmetric trimesters proposed in the 2026-2027 Academic Calendar until Cal Poly has had the opportunity to institute the Quarter to Semester transition as it originally was mandated by the Chancellor’s Office in 2021, …
