The Vitruvian Shareholder, Sergio Alberto Gramitto Ricci Jan 2024

The Vitruvian Shareholder, Sergio Alberto Gramitto Ricci

Hofstra Law Faculty Scholarship

The proportions of Leonardo's Vitruvian Man allow the human figure to fit a circle and a square, which in Renaissance iconography represent respectively the secular and divine dimensions. Good canons allow for a proportionate and simultaneous coexistence of the two natures of humankind. Human shareholders have two natures, too: one as investors and one as human beings. Similar to the Vitruvian Man, a shareholder with good proportions fits a metaphorical circle and a metaphorical square: the former represents the human dimension, and the latter represents the investor. I dub retail investors who proportionately balance their interests as human beings who …

Hypermodern Affect, Political Orientation, And Conspiracy Theory Ideation In The Age Of Postmodernity, Rachel L. Anderson

Scripps Senior Theses

Recent scholarly undertakings have aimed to demystify an increasingly salient issue that threatens to disrupt cultural, political, and social domains: conspiracy theory ideation. Underpinning injurious right-wing political coalitions, anti-vaccination campaigns, out-group derogation, and, in drastic circumstances, instances of genocide, conspiracy theory informs myriad anthropogenic movements that jeopardize pillars of democracy and scientific reasoning. Intending to reveal the psychological predictors of conspiracy ideation, the present study will examine the utility of individual perceptions of societal marginalization, feelings of loneliness, belongingness, and authoritarianism in predicting the endorsement of conspiracy theory ideology among rural populations via a cross-sectional online survey and subsequent hierarchical …

False Discovery Rate And Localizing Power, Anderson M. Winkler, Paul A. Taylor, Thomas E. Nichols, Chris Rorden

School of Medicine Publications

False discovery rate (FDR) is commonly used for correction for multiple testing in neuroimaging studies. However, when using two-tailed tests, making directional inferences about the results can lead to vastly inflated error rate, even approaching 100% in some cases. This happens because FDR only provides weak control over the error rate, meaning that the proportion of error is guaranteed only globally over all tests, not within subsets, such as among those in only one or another direction. Here we consider and evaluate different strategies for FDR control with two-tailed tests, using both synthetic and real imaging data. Approaches that separate …

The Bipolar-Schizophrenia Network for Intermediate Phenotypes (B-SNIP) has categorized psychosis disorders (Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder and Bipolar Disorder) into three distinct Biotypes, based on neurobiological measurements in a multi-ancestry sample. Two recently developed post hoc ancestry adjustment methods of Polygenic Risk Scores (PRSs) generate Trans-Ancestry PRSs (TAPRSs), which allow for PRS analysis of multi-ancestry samples. Applied to schizophrenia PRS, we found the Khera TAPRS method to show superior portability and comparable prediction accuracy as compared with the Ge method. The three Biotypes of psychosis disorders had similar TAPRSs across ancestries. In genomic analysis of Biotypes, nine genes and isoforms showed significant …
