Cognitive And Emotional Theory Of Mind In Eating Disorders: The Mediating Role Of Alexithymia, Morgan R. Johnson
Cognitive And Emotional Theory Of Mind In Eating Disorders: The Mediating Role Of Alexithymia, Morgan R. Johnson
Theses
A number of studies have documented deficits in theory of mind (ToM), or the ability to infer the mental states of others, among individuals with eating disorders (EDs). Much of this research has focused on emotional ToM, as opposed to cognitive ToM, where mental inferences do not contain affective content. Alexithymia, a difficulty in the ability to correctly identify and describe one’s emotions, has also been reported among individuals with EDs. Alexithymia was hypothesized to mediate the relationship between ED symptoms and emotional ToM, as it has been shown in past research to significantly mediate emotion processing deficits in those …

The purpose of this quantitative, multiple regression, mediation research design was to explore the impact of ACEs on Christian African American marital satisfaction. This study was grounded in the Family Systems Theory, introduced by Dr. Murray Bowen, investigating the relationship between ACEs and African American marital satisfaction mediated and moderated by religiosity. A Qualtrics survey was distributed through social media, and a QR code was posted at two churches located in Birmingham, AL, open to all African American married couples (n=105). PROCESS Models 1 and 4, were utilized to determine if religiosity mediates and moderates the relationship between ACEs and …

Palliative care is comfort care measure that compliments care of the chronically ill patient involving the mind, body, and soul and is recognized as part of the solid tumor oncology patient treatment plan. Solid tumor nurses often lack knowledge of palliative care regarding awareness in pain management, disease symptom management, and crucial conversations regarding goals of care which may result in costly, and poor quality healthcare. The purpose of this quantitative, one group pretest/posttest study, guided by the humanistic nursing theory, was to determine (a) what effect a palliative care online module has on the understanding of palliative care options …

Urban African American Women’S Perceptions Of Health Care Inequalities Experienced During Or After Pregnancy, Janel Scott
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
African American women are more likely than Hispanic and non-Hispanic White women to die during or after childbirth from complications. Incidences of African American maternal death are especially prevalent in the urban living population. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the healthcare inequalities that urban-living African American women have experienced during or after pregnancy. Link and Phelan’s fundamental cause theory, which states that there may be a relationship between socioeconomic status and mortality, served as the theoretical foundation for the investigation. A generic qualitative research design was used. Ten participants were interviewed and surveyed to gain insight …

The Development Of A Self-Perception Measure For Organizational Identification, Daniel J. Daughtridge
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
A new measure based on Self-Perception Theory for the job attitude organizational identification was developed. The Self-Perception Organizational Identification Scale measured the attitude by having participants evaluate past organizational loyalty behaviors, contrasting with the approach taken by the most widely used measure in the literature, the Mael scale, which only measured the cognitive appraisals of the attitude. The resulting reliability and validity study tested the new scale with a convenience sample of 332 adults working full-time at a focal organization for at least two months. The participants were given the Self-Perception Organizational Identification Scale along with the Mael scale and …

A Phenomenological Study On The Adult Biological Child's Experience In A Family That Fostered, Melba Richards-Garcia
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Families involved in the fostering process experience a wide range of situations which can impact all family members—both positively and negatively. This includes the biological children of foster parents. While recent research has started to focus on providing support for foster families, most studies primarily concentrate on training and assistance for foster parents. When it comes to the effects of being a biological child within a foster family there exists a gap in the literature regarding long-term support for these family members. The objective of this study is to explore the retrospective experiences of biological children of foster families, who …

The purpose of this study to determine if there is a statistically significant difference in perceived stress, self-reported post-traumatic stress symptoms, and mental help seeking attitudes in police officers who use peer support programs and those who do not use peer support programs. Police officers are consistently exposed to stress and trauma that has negative biological, physical, and mental health effects, leaving officers at risk for the development of mental health diseases and disorders. Identifying the need for mental health resources, and peer support groups are recommended; however, there is not enough literature to determine its effectiveness. The recovery model …

Health literacy is an important component of global health maintenance and can be greatly influenced by the DNP. The trigger for the EBP was related to a limited amount of appropriate application of health literacy in South Asian communities and village medical leaders. Health literacy was assessed by distributing short questionnaires to medical professionals such as chemists, doctors, and community health workers. An educational intervention with one specific disease process, hypertension, was then delivered to those who accepted. Upon completion of the teaching, a re-assessment with the same questions was either distributed or reviewed with the participants. Descriptive statistics were …

The way in which an individual copes or changes the cognitive and behavioral efforts to manage specific external and/or internal demands influences mental and physical outcomes, including PTSD. This qualitative phenomenological design allowed participants to interpret their lived experiences as they …

Disunity Of Pentecostal Pastors Planting Churches In Suburban Areas: Unifying Leaders With The Same Goal, Jamare L. Razor
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The problem is that disunity exists among suburban church planting pastors of multidenominational and nondenominational churches in a tri-state region of the United States. Approximately 4,000 churches are planted in America each year and sadly about 3,700 of those churches will close. One reason for this is disunity among pastors that leads to the lack of support needed for church plant success and longevity. This problem must be remedied if the church plants are to succeed. The purpose for this Doctor of Ministry action research project is to identify the causes of the disunity that hinder church plant success in …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to understand the transgenerational trauma passed from mothers to daughters in the African American community. Job 28 As A Thematic Unifier Clarifying Human Responsibility Through The Revelation Of Wisdom And Understanding In Relationship To Yahweh, Michael G. Potter
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The goal of the project was to discern and articulate the literary relationship of Job 28 to its larger literary context and demonstrate that the chapter serves the rhetorical purpose of the author to legitimize the kingship of Yahweh over creation. The study argues that Job 28 functions as a thematic unifier that clarifies human responsibility in relationship to Yahweh. The project demonstrates that Job 28 functions as the integrative center of the book and is a figurative interpolation, a metaphorical embellishment to the search for wisdom and answers observed in the defense and debate cycles (Job 4-27; 28:1-22) while …

It emphasizes that their responsibilities extend beyond mere musical proficiency to embody a profound spiritual calling rooted in a vocational call to ministry. A survey of 401 worship leaders from various Christian denominations reveals the role's dual nature: they are skilled musicians and spiritual guides uniquely called to facilitate the congregation’s faith journey. This vocational calling highlights their divine appointment to ministry, aligning with biblical principles such as those found in Ephesians 4:11-12, which stress the equipping of the saints and the building up of the …
