Screentime At Bedtime Relates To Lower Performance On Self-Regulatory Tasks For Young Children Facing Economic Hardship, Krista Donahue

West Chester University Master’s Theses

Given the prevalence of screentime, its impact on child development has become a question of key concern for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers, as well as parents. Recent attention has focused specifically on the potential negative effects of screentime on young children’s development of self-regulatory capacities. These negative effects of screentime could be particularly detrimental for children in poverty, who face stressors and forms of environmental adversity that can compromise self-regulatory development. The present study examines the relationship between screentime at bedtime and the inhibitory control aspect of young children’s self-regulation. Participants included 144 children ages of 3-5 years old who …

The Supreme Court’S 2022-23 Access To Court Decisions, Sarah Somers, Abigail Coursolle, Sarah L. Grusin, Jane Perkins

Saint Louis University Journal of Health Law & Policy

The Supreme Court’s 2022–23 Term yielded significant decisions bringing about goals long-sought by conservatives. This debut Term for the first Black woman Justice also included some results welcomed by progressives, including decisions on voting rights, Native American sovereignty, and individual enforcement of Spending Clause enactments. In this Article, we discuss significant decisions that have implications for access to court for civil litigants, focusing on those affecting access for low-income and marginalized litigants. We also look ahead to what the 2023–24 Term may bring for those seeking access to the courts.

Ecgconvt : A Hybrid Cnn And Vision Transformer Model For 12-Lead Ecg Images Classification, Mudassar Khalid

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the most common cause of human deaths globally, and they can be controlled by early diagnosis and accurate classification of the electrocardiograms. The Electrocardiogram, commonly known as an ECG, is a very affordable technique to know about the health of the heart from 12 different angles by using 12-Leads to capture the heart's electrical activity. A hybrid deep learning model is proposed in this study to classify the different heart diseases. The deep learning model is composed of a CNN(Xception) to capture all the local feature-maps of the images and a vision transformer (ViT) to study …

Parkland Science Scholars

INTRODUCTION

  • Urban agriculture faces numerous challenges; particularly water access and pest pressure.
  • Vermicompost might mitigate water stress by enhancing organic matter and humic acids that improve water retention1, and relieve pest pressure by enhancing plant defensive chemistry.2
  • In this experiment, we examine how water stress and vermicompost interactively shape pest attraction.

Caffeine is a popular ergogenic aid that has a plethora of evidence highlighting its positive effects. A Google Scholar search using the keywords “caffeine” and “exercise” yields over 200,000 results, emphasizing the extensive research on this topic. However, despite the vast amount of available data, it is intriguing that uncertainties persist regarding the effectiveness and safety of caffeine. These include but are not limited to: 1. Does caffeine dehydrate you at rest? 2. Does caffeine dehydrate you during exercise? 3. Does caffeine promote the loss of body fat? 4. Does habitual caffeine consumption influence the performance response to acute caffeine …

Pharmacology and Nutritional Sciences Faculty Publications

Colitis is a chronic bowel disease characterized by damage to the lining of the large intestine, with its precise underlying causes remaining incompletely understood. In this study, we provide evidence that circular RNA circNlgn plays a pivotal role in promoting the development of colitis. Colitis patients produce significant higher levels of circNlgn. Transgenic mice expressing circNlgn exhibit heightened susceptibility to colitis development and progression, primarily attributed to the presence of the protein isoform Nlgn173 encoded by circNlgn. Nlgn173 undergoes translocation into cell nuclei, where it interacts with actin, impeding the binding of actin-related protein 2 and 3 (Arp2/3) complex to …

Reviving Caribbean Scleractinian Corals: Medication In Ex-Situ Care, Christopher E. Cho

Honors Theses

The Caribbean basin is facing an unprecedented decline in coral reef health, with factors such as coral disease, climate change, and algal overgrowth contributing to the deterioration of these vital ecosystems. In response, land-based facilities have emerged to aid in coral conservation and restoration efforts. One aspect of these conservation efforts involves the treatment of coral ailments, which is still an emerging field within coral conservation. By medicating corals, researchers aim to combat diseases and alleviate stressors that threaten coral health. This practice holds promise for preserving genetic diversity and supporting future repopulation initiatives. This study evaluates the effectiveness of …

Monetary Policy Across The Urban Rural Divide, Grace Hillis Jan 2024

Monetary Policy Across The Urban Rural Divide, Grace Hillis

Honors Theses

This paper measures the effect of monetary policy on the consumption of Urban versus Rural Households. I utilize the Consumer Expenditures Survey, conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and St. Louis Federal Reserve Economic Data for information on important macroeconomic variables. My empirical strategy examines how total consumption, housing consumption, health, food, and transportation consumption are impacted by the federal funds rate for urban relative to rural households. My research provides evidence that when the Federal Reserve increases rates, the consumption of rural households falls more relative to urban households. This result is statistically significant when examining consumption related …

Responding To Hurricane Maria: The Role Of Mutual Aid Societies In Withstanding Federal Failures, Caitlin Bracken

Honors Theses

Through a combination of research and interviews, this paper unpacks the policies that expose colonialist realities and how Puerto Rican mutual aid societies engaged with those policies in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. Policies and decisions such as cabotage law under the Jones Act; the quality of Puerto Rican bonds being triple-tax exempt; the inability to refinance or default on debt; the Insular Cases and other Supreme Court cases; and PROMESA, have established a colonial relationship with significant material and political consequences for Puerto Rico. These consequences were brought to light after Hurricane Maria, where the U.S.’s inadequate response resulted …
