School of Medicine Faculty Publications
Background/Objectives: Bone nonunion remains a clinical challenge in orthopedic surgery with significant impacts on mental and physical wellbeing for patients. There are several previously established risk factors of nonunion that are connected to nutrition, but this has yet to be substantially explored. This review seeks to assess all studies that present associations between nutrition and nonunion to understand the potential for clinical relevance in nonunion prevention. Methods: Case–control and cohort studies comparing nonunion risk based on nutritional factors were gathered through PubMed in July 2024. Data were extracted with dual verification through Covidence and assessed for bias using the Newcastle–Ottawa …

The high poverty rate in Indonesia can be addressed through the contribution of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which absorb approximately 57.78% of the workforce in the informal sector. However, this sector faces risks of workplace accidents and occupational diseases that can impact workers' productivity and well-being. Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) account for 42% to 58% of all recorded occupational diseases globally. Preliminary observations identified symptoms of MSDs, such as neck stiffness and back pain, among furniture workers in the informal sector of Tunjungsekar. This study aims to determine the relationship between the risk levels of work posture and individual …

Economic Considerations Of In-Season Potassium Applications To Soybean Using Payoff Matrices, Carrie Ortel, T. L. Roberts, M. Popp, W. J. Ross, N. A. Slaton, M. R. Parvej
Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Faculty Publications and Presentations
Potassium (K) deficiency is a common yield-limiting factor in Arkansas soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) production that can be addressed with innovative supplemental fertilizer application. An established leaf sampling protocol and dynamic critical concentration allow accurate diagnosis of K deficiency with corresponding recommendations for corrective, in-season K fertilizer applications at site-specific rates and times to reach anticipated yield goals. However, the profitability of in-season K fertilizer applications to irrigated soybean remains unclear. Research was conducted in Arkansas from 2021 to 2023 to evaluate multiple rates of in-season applications of muriate of potash to soybean at 15 and 30 days …

BACKGROUND: Currently, there is no consensus on how to comprehensively assess comorbidities in lung cancer patients in the clinical setting. Prescription medications may be a preferred comorbidity assessment tool and provide a simple mechanism for predicting postoperative outcomes for lung cancer. We examined the relationship between prescription medications and postoperative outcomes for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients with clinical stage I NSCLC who underwent surgical resection in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) between 10/01/2006 and 09/30/2016. Details of all outpatient prescriptions filled by patients within the VHA system from 1-year …

Executive Summary: Clinical Practice Guideline Obstetrics Diabetes Management, Carole N. Louis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Summary A clinical practice guideline (CPG) was developed because the perinatal department lacked standardized management of pregestational and gestational diabetes. The practice issue is relevant since managing maternal glucose ranges during pregnancy mitigates adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. The practice-focused question asks, “What are the best practices to manage diabetes in the intrapartum and postpartum settings?” The project was designed to develop an evidence-based protocol to provide standardized management for nurses and providers. Most studies in the literature search were quantitative sources with either A or B overall quality ratings. Based on the evidence, the intrapartum target maternal glucose range …

In the current bariatric era, there exists multiple procedures and approaches. Despite sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) being the most commonly performed procedures, the duodenal switch (DS) is a more recent procedure that has shown promising outcomes. DS procedures include the classic biliopancreatic diversion with DS (BPD-DS) and the single anastomosis duodeno-ileostomy with sleeve (SADI-S). DS surgical techniques have been amended multiple times over the last decade in order to obtain optimal patient outcomes. …
