First Amendment Disequilibrium, Christina Koningisor, Lyrissa Lidsky Jan 2024

First Amendment Disequilibrium, Christina Koningisor, Lyrissa Lidsky

Faculty Scholarship

The Supreme Court has constructed key parts of First Amendment law around two underlying assumptions. The first is that the press is a powerful actor capable of obtaining government information and checking government power. The second is that the executive branch is bound by various internal and external constraints that limit its ability to keep information secret. Judges and legislators have long assumed that these twin forces—an emboldened press and a constrained executive—maintain a rough balance between the press’s desire to uncover secrets and the executive’s desire to keep information hidden. Landmark First Amendment cases such as the Pentagon Papers …

Selective Fast Fiber Damage After Leg Press Exercise Leading To Failure: A Pole Vaulter Case Report, Gerard Carmona, Gerard Moras, Raúl Bescós, Adrián García-Fresneda, Joan A. Cadefau Jan 2024

Selective Fast Fiber Damage After Leg Press Exercise Leading To Failure: A Pole Vaulter Case Report, Gerard Carmona, Gerard Moras, Raúl Bescós, Adrián García-Fresneda, Joan A. Cadefau

School of Health Professions

The aim of this study was to investigate, in a trained pole vaulter (PV) and in an endurance-trained physical education student (PE), the effect of a leg press exercise leading to failure (LPF) on changes in serum activity of muscle enzymes and serum concentration of fast (FM) and slow (SM) myosin isoforms, while simultaneously examining mechanical output components as indicators of performance and fatigue developed throughout exercise. A case report study design based on an observational comparison of response between two dichotomous participants, PV and PE, was used. Differences between the participants’ exercise outputs were examined by unpaired t-test or …

The Perceptions Of First Point Of Contact Roles In Primary Care By Pre‐Registration Students Of The Allied Health Professions, Emma Empson, Sue May

School of Health Professions

Aim: To develop a better understanding of the perceptions of first point of contact roles within primary care by pre-registration students of the Allied Health Professions (AHPs). Background: General practice in the UK is under growing pressure from declining general practitioner (GP) numbers and increased service demand. The National Health Service (NHS) is attempting to mitigate this demand by making more effective use of its highly experienced workforce through the creation of first contact practitioners (FCPs). Working in primary care, FCPs are highly experienced AHPs with three or more years of relevant clinical experience. Methods: An abductive qualitative research approach …
