Exploring The Relationships Between Problem Features In The Humaneval Dataset And Pass@K, Austin Vornhagen Nov 2024

Exploring The Relationships Between Problem Features In The Humaneval Dataset And Pass@K, Austin Vornhagen

Computer Science Theses, Dissertations, and Student Creative Activity

This thesis investigates the performance of large language models (LLMs) from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google on the HumanEval benchmark. This freely available benchmark automates the model evaluation process, ensuring consistent and objective evaluation. The HumanEval benchmark contains a dataset, consisting of 164 programming problems. Our analysis examines correlations between problem features, such as cyclomatic complexity, Halstead metrics, problem emphasis, a self-reflection metric we developed, and the models’ problem-solving capabilities on this dataset. XGBoost was utilized to identify the significance of various features in predicting pass@1 outcomes, with inconclusive findings suggesting areas for further investigation, including potential model overfitting and data …

Codes From Incidence Matrices Of Hypergraphs, Sudipta Mallik, Bahattin Yildiz Nov 2024

Codes From Incidence Matrices Of Hypergraphs, Sudipta Mallik, Bahattin Yildiz

Mathematics Faculty Research

Binary codes are constructed from incidence matrices of hypergraphs. A combinatorial description is given for the minimum distances of such codes via a combinatorial tool called “eonv”. This combinatorial approach provides a faster alternative method of finding the minimum distance, which is known to be a hard problem. This is demonstrated on several classes of codes from hypergraphs. In particular the “eonv” method is used to prove that the minimum distance of codes from incidence matrices of complete 3-partite 3-uniform hypergraphs with partite set size of n is n2. A lower bound on the minimum distances of codes from …

Institute for Asian American Studies Publications

In cities and towns across the United States, Asian Americans experienced the early 2020s health crisis as a dual pandemic of COVID-19 and anti-Asian racism. In Lowell, a large proportion of Cambodian American residents live in multi-generational households and are employed in working-class occupations with a high risk of exposure to the coronavirus. For this and other reasons, the pandemic had especially serious health and financial consequences for many members of the Cambodian American community. These pandemic challenges in Lowell mounted when a nationwide surge of anti-Asian racism swept through the city and surrounding areas.

Guide To Supplementary Feeding And Budgeting, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia Nov 2024

Guide To Supplementary Feeding And Budgeting, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Animal production and livestock factsheets

Supplementary feeding of sheep, with grain, hay or silage is necessary when pastures or stubbles are deficient in energy and protein.

A good supplementary feeding program will ensure sheep utilise as much dry paddock feed as possible as well as provide sufficient supplementary feed for maintenance or growth.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development recommends supplementary or confined paddock feeding to maintain livestock productivity and avoid animal welfare and soil erosion problems.

Fallow And Red Deer: Requirements To Keep, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia Nov 2024

Fallow And Red Deer: Requirements To Keep, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Animal production and livestock factsheets

This factsheet provides information on the requirements for keeping fallow and red deer species in Western Australia.

Fallow (Dama dama) and red deer (Cervus elaphus) are declared pests under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management (BAM) Act 2007 in Western Australia (WA).

The department assists in preventing the establishment of deer in the wild. This means a permit is required to keep fallow and red deer in WA. Animals that escape or become feral must be recaptured or destroyed.

Small populations of feral deer occur in WA from escaped captive stock and deliberate release. Deer damage native plants, crops and plantation …

Topography And Wildfire Jointly Mediate Postfire Ecosystem Multifunctionality In A Chinese Boreal Forest, Jianjian Kong, Zifan Ding, Wenhua Cai, Jiaxing Zu, Bo Liu, Jian Yang

Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty Publications

Both topography and wildfire can exert significant influences on ecosystem processes and functions during boreal forest successions. However, their impacts on ecosystem multifunctionality (EMF) remain unclear. A mega-fire burned an area of 8700 hectares in the Great Xing’an Mountains in 2000, creating a wide range of fire severity levels across various topographic positions. This provided a unique opportunity to explore the impacts of mixed-severity fire disturbance in boreal forests. We evaluated the effect pathways of wildfire and topography on aboveground multifunctionality (AEMF), soil multifunctionality (SEMF), and overall multifunctionality (OEMF). We found that high-severity burning resulted in lower AEMF, SEMF, and …

Lawyering In The Age Of Artificial Intelligence, Jonathan H. Choi, Amy B. Monahan, Daniel Schwarcz

Minnesota Law Review Vols. 106:2 onward (2021-present)

We conducted the first randomized controlled trial to study the effect of AI assistance on human legal analysis. We randomly assigned law school students to complete realistic legal tasks either with or without the assistance of GPT-4, tracking how long the students took on each task and blind-grading the results.

We found that access to GPT-4 only slightly and inconsistently improved the quality of participants’ legal analysis but induced large and consistent increases in speed. AI assistance improved the quality of output unevenly—where it was useful at all, the lowest-skilled participants saw the largest improvements. On the other hand, AI …

Reconstruction, And The Unfulfilled Promise Of Antitrust, Bennett Capers Nov 2024

Reconstruction, And The Unfulfilled Promise Of Antitrust, Bennett Capers

Minnesota Law Review Vols. 106:2 onward (2021-present)

Wealth inequality remains as wide, and as troubling, as it was a half-century ago. While scholars have offered various explanations, there is a contributor that has escaped serious scrutiny: state monopoly power. It is not just that there is a long history of states and municipalities using their monopoly power to protect dominant interests, from enacting Black Codes to shuttering Chinese laundries to barring women, immigrants, and minorities from certain professions. It is also that states continue to use their monopoly power in ways that entrench inequality, from zoning restrictions to eminent domain to regulations that, in effect, bar Black …

Wind Erosion Control After Fire In Western Australia, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia Nov 2024

Wind Erosion Control After Fire In Western Australia, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Natural resources factsheets

First steps after a fire

Act to limit further erosion:

• Remove livestock and keep them off burnt paddocks: they can be put into a confinement feeding area, an unburnt paddock or agisted.

• Minimise vehicle traffic on burnt areas

• Protect highly susceptible and valuable areas, such as house, garden, sheds, yards, gateways and laneways with binding spray, clay, gravel, old hay, or straw to give a full cover. A dust-free living and working environment is particularly important after a fire.

Leave burnt residue on roadsides, revegetation and bush areas to decrease the risk of wind erosion.

Natural Revegetation And No Grazing, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia Nov 2024

Natural Revegetation And No Grazing, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Natural resources factsheets

The department recommends that any dryland salinity management is part of a whole farm, and preferably a whole catchment, water management plan.

Natural revegetation and no grazing are only recommended for sites that are too saline, waterlogged and/or inundated for other treatments to succeed in the south-west of Western Australia. It is also the preferred option for the lowest possible cost.

Saltland Pastures In Western Australia, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia Nov 2024

Saltland Pastures In Western Australia, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Religious Pressure And Perceptions Of Sexual Intimacy, Madison A. Price, Lenny Perry, Olivia Farias, Emma Jay

Science University Research Symposium (SURS)

Religious beliefs and sexual inclinations have co-existed, correlated, and conflicted within individuals. For years, the religious pressure bestowed upon an individual has been known to impact one’s sexual decisions, including one’s timing of sexual activity, the number of sexual partners one has, and one’s attitude toward pre-marital sex (Armstrong et al., 2019). This study examines the impact of religious pressure on these beliefs regarding sexual intimacy. A sample of about 38 college students ranging from ages 18-23 were randomly assigned to 3 different groups ranging from low to high religious pressure. Religious pressure was distributed in the form of music, …

Refining Chlorosulfonation Methods For The Synthesis Of A Perfluoroalkyl Arylsulfonimide (Pfsi) Monomer, Ainsley P. Foster, Benjamin Varney, Hua Mei

Science University Research Symposium (SURS)

Proton-exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells are sources of energy that are clean, quiet, and highly responsive to changes in power needs, making them promising for use in automobiles and other portable power devices. The electrolyte of a PEM cell–the layer responsible for conductivity–is a polymer membrane, commonly consisting of perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acid (PFSA) polymers. Perfluoroalkyl arylsulfonimide (PFSI) polymers are expected to improve the efficiency of PEM fuel cells through optimal stability and proton conductivity. The trifluovinylether (TFVE) aryl perfluorosulfonamide monomer is a new PFSI monomer proposed to fulfill these benefits once polymerized. A six-step synthesis route was initially designed to …

Srebp Versus Nrf1 Behavior Based On Cholesterol Sensing In Niemann-Pick Type C Using A Cos-7 Model, Christine Tran, Jacob Mcintyre, Felicity Sterling Phd

Science University Research Symposium (SURS)

Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is a rare genetic disorder where cholesterol and lipid transport are blocked leading to accumulation in the lysosomes (National Organization of Rare Diseases (NORD), 2024; Boston Children’s Hospital). This accumulation can lead to neurological issues, such as developmental delay, ataxia, seizures, and early onset of dementia (Patterson, 2000). To study this disease more in depth, scientists have identified a drug called U18666A that induces NPC in the cells it is administered to (Lu, et al., 2015) which allows for the study of other structures and biomolecules in the sterol sensing and transport pathways.

Cholesterol has …

From Biased Data Inputs To Your Discriminatory Diagnosis Outputs: A Review Of Legal Liability For Artificial Intelligence In Healthcare, Amber Bolden

Michigan Technology Law Review

While health disparities in America occur due to non-medical circumstances, certain protected classes experience healthcare disparities due to the biases of medical professionals. Biased diagnoses, both intentional or unintentional, have existed throughout the history of the medical profession. That those biases are becoming data for training algorithms raises concerns as the medical field increasingly incorporates and standardizes artificial and augmented intelligence in patient diagnosis and treatment. Currently unregulated but with lifedetermining potential, artificial intelligence (AI) when used in patient treatment leads to important questions: should the doctor, the provider, or the AI developers be liable, and for what?
